Also, Ninja Gaiden 2 was never supposed to be a system seller. It sold 350,000 copies already...not bad for being out only 2 weeks. Too Human is more in line with the idea of "system seller."

Expected Metal Gear 4 to sell over a million. I think it has a lot more appeal than some analysts predicted it to have. Time will tell if it is a bigger system seller than GTA4. I'm looking forward to the Metal Gear Solid Data base on the PSN store tomorrow. Should clear up a few things...:-)

Actually i think the NG2 scores are really weak. With the install base advantage, i certainly expected it to sell more than it did. Biggest game for 360 this summer will be a multiplatform title called battlefield bad company. Great shooter on a system that loves shooters.

MGS4 CAN sell PS3 systems and it already has. MGS4 coming out on the PS3 this June was like Gears of War 2 coming out for the 360 later on this year. MGS4 may be a "niche" game title for a certain group of people, but I'm certain that there was a lot of other people that had not played a MGS game before and picked up MGS4 for the PS3 just because they knew that it was a talked about game and it was very anticipated. Also, the way that Kojima made MGS4, it is more appealing to more people, so that "niche" of MGS4 is almost thrown out the window, because anyone that has played Splinter Cell, Uncharted, or any 3rd person action game can enjoy MGS4.

I never doubted MGS4's ability to sell PS3 hardware for a second.

I can try to answer that because of an experience I had on Sunday. I was in Gamestop buying the SNK collection for my PSP when I overheard a mom at the front counter with her son. She asked him "what is it you wanted?" And he replied "A PSP." Then the Gamestop employee talked her out of buying a PSP and got her to buy him a DS instead because he was 8. She then asked him if he wanted Nintendogs to which he replied "NO I WANT A PSP!" So there you have it folks. A true story and possible reason everyone is buying those DSL's.

The PS3 Sold almost 2.5 times more consoles than the Xbox 360 this week. The Xbox 360 hasn't been able to beat the Playstation 3 in worldwide sales in weeks now. Xbox fans need to think about the momentum surround the playstation. Clearly, this holiday, the number one console will be the Playstation 3 and although it's online interface is still progressing, it's free to play and offers less lag than Xbox 360 online play. With a much better line up in 2008 than the Xbox 360, the PS3 is now the worlds favorite "Next Generation" console.

Also, PS3, way to beat the wii in worldwide sales this week (even though we know the wii's just 2 gamecubes taped together).

ps3 out sells 360 world wide on a monthly basis. they out sell them every time, every where. they out sold them WW in '07 and the way its looking there going to outsell them WW in '08. and sony hasn't even woken up yet. like who does that? do you know what sonys pushing right now? let me clear something up real quick. you got a system that comes out at 600$, ok its selling pretty good for being so expensive. do you know what sony has to focus on wile staying in the game? ok, wii got a hand held and a wii. misrosoft just got the 360 to improve on as much as they want. now sony got, a hand held,a ps3, and a ps2 thats still in production. so when you think about it their doing like 4 times more work than MS and twice the amount of work the wii is doing. they got to keep up with devs for the ps2 and keep it in production with games and hardwear. keep up with devs for the psp and work on the psp firmware up-dates and the games and new ip's. and keep up with devs for the ps3 and work on the ps3 firmwere up-dates as well. thats not all. mean wile they still have to work on accessory's, new gadgets such as the transformer and the "ps3mote", HOME is a big project ther working on on top of that. mean wile they have a ton of games in production right now from their own. they just brought out QORE. and they have a ton of more stuff to work on such as the videostore and the ps3 slim.

In 1 or 2 days, The ps3 sold more than double what it usually sell in 1 week, and if this goes on for 4 weeks, just 4 weeks, then that 5 million unit lead that MS was talking about will be reduced to 4 million. AND IF, and i mean IF, Sony does a price drop, anytime between NOW and FEB 09, then by JUNE 13 2009 the ps3 would have surpassed the 360's total install base.

really glad MGS4 sold alot of copies. If any one deserves getting a sh*t load of money is Kojima and his team. They are real devs that don't compromise on quality and their vision. I can not thank him enough for giving us this wonderful masterpiece.

I know i will get jump on for this but i wouldn't really mind if the x360 boys get a port of this game. As much as i am a PS fan i am more so a MGS fan and i believe this game should be played by everyone that call themselves a gamer. Also i really want to see MGS4 get past the 10 million mark in its lifetime. I think it will get close but if it gets ported it will easily sell more than 12 million and this game of all game currently available deserves to sell more than any other game imo.

Hideo has made a masterpiece in a game and as lucky as we PS3 owners are it would be nice, seeing it as a gamer, that everyone who loves games would get a chance to play this amazing game and see why we PS3 fans worship Hideo so much. I cant agree with you there. Hideo and Konami definitely deserve the success for taking the risk and going all out. But so does the PS3 for the same reasons. Sony could have easily put out PS2.5 the way M$ did with XB, but they made all the hard decisions at the risk of unpopularity and now its paying of and the world can see it.

MGS's and PS3's success deserves to go hand in hand and if it means some people with Xboxes have to buy a PS3 to get to play the grandest game ever made, then good. Its good for PS3, its fans, and justifies Kojima's decision to make it exclusive. This game will still be influencing peoples decision to buy a PS3 for 2 or 3 years to come and I bet devs like Aquatic Dreams and Media Molecule are thinking they made the right choice too.

When all is said and done i believe MGS4 will sell more than any of the previous entires to sell about 8-9million but that is not enough imo. Kojima and co deserve nothing but the best for giving us nothing but the best.

The MGS4 sales are actually much, much better than expected but i was secretly hoping that the majority of PS3 owners would realise that MGS is truly a gem and would push the majority of them to buy MGS4 so that it would sell just as many copies as other great PS games like FF and GT. God knows that this game of all games deserves it.

Edit:@bathyj Good points as usual and you are right. Sony also deserves a big congratulations for haveing the guts to take huge risks with the PS3. Its always what i love about the PS brand. People always take cheap shots at Sony for thinking big and takeing risk to advance gaming unlike the others which play safe. MS and Nin really didn't bring anything new to the table this gen come to think of it and yet Sony is getting all the flak for trying their best to deliver on their vision.

I know what you mean by that. I have always been pro Sony and have always been happy with what they offer and the risk they take that knowone else will take in order to improve and innovate gaming. Sony does also deserve a lot of credit as well as Kojima for not taking short cuts and sticking to his vision and do this for the passion of gaming and not for making money, even though he does get paid very well, he is an artist first and a business man second. To be honest i was a bit worried it might not sell as much as it has now with the way Uncharted(my 2nd best) HS(3rd best) and RC(4th best)sold. Totally agree that many great PS3 games have been gone unappreciated. I also purchased HS and Uncharted and loved those games and I dont understand why they didnt sell larger amounts since they deserved the time and day of any PS3 gamer looking for a great story and great gameplay. Well its not like its a bad thing to do ONLY 4 million... Rumor had it that a million was all that was needed for it to be a success. Halo 3 has sold 7.96 million to date, and Gears has done 5.23. These are both must have games for 360. There are 19 million 360's out there. It is entirely possible for MGS4 to be as successful as at least Gears of War. And when I used VGchartz to track the sales of the 360 at the date Gears was released, it gave me the number 5,914,279, which is indeed higher than PS3's 5,110,000. 800,000 is a big number of potential buyers. Gears 1st week American sales were 606,759, which accounts for the whole week and not just 2 days like MGS4.

So to sum up all these numbers:

*MGS4 launched with a lower install base and sold almost as much as Gears of War did in 2 days(launch week).

Halo 3 was a great and fun game... maybe you should go back and read the reviews or play the game yourself with some friends. The campaign and the multiplayer are alot of fun.

I played the campaign twice, once on hard, then legendary. Playing it 4 player co-op with your friends was alot of fun and still is to this day. And the multi-player is one of the best multi-player ever made. It's the game used for major league gaming.

anyways, it's a fun game that entertains the young and old that shouldn't be compared to another, especially MGS4 that is aimed for the hardcore, and i doubt anyone truly regrets buying it.

I think this spike in sales will last for the rest of this month but come july the sales might drop down to normal, even though were getting a steal as it is for the PS3, if we could get a price drop I think that would make the competition very competitive.

I'm guessing 1 mill in HDW sales by end of June thanx to reviews and tv ads now dropping. remember PS3 sales in Japan were at 10-12 thousand now it went up to 60!!! Proof is in the pudding!!

I am a PS3 fan but not to an extreme. Originally N64 man, XBOX man, now PS3 man. I make my choice when the consoles come out so hopefully i wont be viewed as too biased.

A lot of people are trying to say MGS4 won't move consoles as it is limited to its loyal fanbase. I have never played any other MGS4 game and i could not wait to buy it as it looks like the most polished gaming experience. I bought the game last night and was blown away by the opening scenes. It will gain heaps of new fans, and will sell consoles.

I think of it kinda like Lord of the Rings Trilogy. If you were under a rock then surfaced for the 3rd movie, you would still thouroughly enjoy it and notice the quality of film making. It would make you want to see the others. MGS4 has that polish and will have that affect and therefore no deterrent for new fans like myself.
