Bioshock 2 Confirmed to be in Development

2K Marin developing BioShock 2

As part of its financial announcements today Take Two has confirmed that its new 2K Marin studio is developing a sequel to BioShock.

BioShock 2 is due for release towards the end of 2009.

2K Marin was founded by a number of former members of the 2K Boston team which developed the original BioShock.

Located in Novato, California, the new studio was originally announced as a hub for developing new IP, as well as co-developing products with other 2K studios around the world.

Multiplayer would be good to add some replayability. I wouldn't buy Bioshock without it.

I just really hope this game is a prequel. The 50s theme is essential to Bioshock. It would be cheesy and boring if it didn't take place in Rapture again.

.....was a FANTASTIC game, had seriously crazy atmosphere, one of the best single player experiences i have ever had. The sequel is great news for all, if it comes to all consoles then great, more people can enjoy a truely remarkable franchise. Its a long way off but still its good to hear that there will be a follow up.

As you noticed, no platforms were mentioned. This is more than likely to be developed on PLAYSTATION® 3. Be looking for the PS3 version to have superior frame rates, increased visuals to combine with the ergonomic design of the SIXAXIS and Dual Shock 3 controllers.

Toughname-I would totally agree that a prequel would be cool, exploring how Rapture, became rapture although you sort of explore how it did in Bioshock.

Agree with you generally. But as Infinity Ward/Criterion showed it`s possible to make a game on both platforms at the same time and still maintain a great game. So, i hope to see it on PS3 as well, as the port problems seems to have disappeared for the most part.

Sad to not see the original team do the sequel though, but the best of luck to 2K Marin, regardless of which platforms they make it on. They sure have some work to follow.

that bioshock was born on the x360 and people identify bioshock with the x360. Consoles need console defining franchise otherwise, what the point of having multiple consoles?. I am a gamer and i want devs to get as much from their platform of choice so that gamers get the best experience as possible. This is one of the main reason why there should be multiple consoles.

Mark.GTA i would prefer if it was exclusive to the PS. For two reasons. 1. Having 1 platform normally is better for a game. 2. This forces competition. Imagine if MS developed a new IP to compete with GTA. That would have been great for all of us gamers as we would have more choice of great games. Since Bioshock was born on the x360. Bioshock atmosphere was pretty fabulous but there was a whole lot of stuff that made it less spectacular in believability terms - bad design choice throughout due to it's over complicated unbalance.I completed it with the good ending but by this point i really hadn't enjoyed the experience or believed the world i was in.Shame as it started off so completely brilliantly.I ended up feeling like i had played a game and that's surely not what was the designers intention.I would have rather watched Bioshock as a film and come out of it feeling much more satisfied.

No doubt get tons of disagrees for saying this but it is an overrated game.

Sorry for the PS3 fanboys, but is has been confirmed that Microsoft has Bioshock 1 and 2 exclusive for the Microsoft platform. That is PC and XBOX 360.
