GTA IV: Both versions will get DLC - Extra chapters are still Xbox 360 exclusive

Rockstar Games has today announced that two versions of Grand Theft Auto IV downloadable content. PlayStation 3 owners do not have to fear that they have no extra content after the release of the game.

Yesterday was announced that the postponement of Grand Theft Auto IV is due to the PlayStation 3, since developing games for this console simply takes longer than with the Xbox 360. This problem has already been solved, various sources report that the development of the PS3 and 360 version right now. There are also believed that the PS3 and 360 version look the same, which should therefore be sure that we finally get no popular game which all fanboys gameplay videos to compare.

But Rockstar also made known that the Xbox 360 console is not the only one who downloadable content. The console from Microsoft gets two exclusive downloadable chapters, with additional missions. They will not come to the PlayStation 3, but will consider all other downloadable content to both consoles. What exactly is this content is not yet known, but are appearing in new cars, new weapons, and maybe still some new missions.

as long as the core game is equally good on both consoles I am happy. I played san andreas for 80 hours. Thats long enough for a game, I finally got sick of it. Extra content is kinda overkill for a GTA game if you ask me.

I never even downloaded anything extra for the games I have now so I am not worried about getting or not getting extra content for the game. As long as the gameplay is good, good story line, and good replay value, Im sold. I honestly never finished San Andreas, got bored quitckly, still have it. I will say that I got bored because I got the game for PC which made the game play dull. I loved GTA3 for ps2, played it over and over again till I got bored. A game with just a story has a certain life spam no matter how good it is. Multiplayer games have an advantage when it comes to replay value. playing againts friends and other people online will always be a different experience, unexpected.

Hey mesh why dont you do some research for me. If you have the october issue of Game informer flip over to page 26, you should notice a GTAIV article. Now read through said article and notice that, yea a contributing factor to the delay was the ps3. Why is this? faulty hardware? no. Poorly designed processor? nope that isnt it. Rockstar's unfamiliarity of the cell? There we go. This is rockstars first release on the ps3, not only that but rockstar released a flop of a game that involved table tennis in 06. It might come as a surprise to you that the in game euphoria engine used to code this game is the exact same engine used in GTAIV. So rockstar had a huge head start on the 360 platform. Now that this is out of the way, are you still looking at that article? Good, now look at that editors note on the page. They state that the 360 version was less then optimal, this leads one to the obvious conclusion that both versions were not ready for retail and both contributed to the delay. Now insert foot in mouth, shut up, and listen.

GTA4 and DMC4 are both games where I played the predecessors on the PS2, and I'll be getting the latest game on the PS3. I have a 360, but it's only used for exclusives... ;-)

One of the major reasons I feel this way: CoD4 on the 360 vs. the PS3... My 360 sounds like it's getting ready to take off while I'm playing CoD4, with the fans on full blast. Even after a marathon 2 hour session, my PS3 doesn't have to run the fans on max (unlike while I'm running Folding@Home, when my PS3 sounds like a pissed-off hair dryer... :-P)

I think the chapters will just be side stories to do with the main stories OR short sequels to the main story.

The "extra missions" part will just be normal missions to download. Probably, 360 owners will have the choice of (spending less) buying normal extra missions or (spending more) by chapters WITH extra missions.

this is called publicity, and Rockstar has to make both versions appealing to everyone.... BUT they did state at one time that the complete definitive GTA4 experience can only be played on 360. 50 million doesn't just buy horse armor, you can be sure the episodes will be good.

Nope, we Sony fans have something similar to "achievements", and they're called PERSONAL STATS. If you have ever played Resistance those "achievements" are represented by military medals/decorations, which frankly, no one really cares except for the uber-geeky.

Then again, "achievements" can be considered a "cultural preference" of the 360 people and therefore can never be understood by the Sony people, much the same way the 360 people could never, ever understand the hype behind Sony Home.

Oblivion's DLC all sold EXTREMELY well for the 360, even Shivering Isles, which was over a year after the game's launch. DLC simply doesn't have a true presence on the PSN yet, so PS3-only fans assume it's pointless. MS has already proven that Marketplace content sells, and is profitable, and devs are taking advantage of that.

Xbox owners will be expecting the same for these downloads and thats what we will get. Don't be silly enough to buy into the fanboy bull, if Sony gave 50 Million of that bribe they gave to Warner then PS3 would deserve its own content but it didn't! First off, there was no bribe given to WB to go Blu-Ray exclusive. WB has said it, Sony has said it, and yet the rumor keeps coming back . . . kinda like the "OMG: MGS4 iz coming to teh 360!!111!!" rumors. And guess what? That's not true either.

Blu-Ray? The lesser format? Now, I will concede that Blu-Ray is only eventually getting the features that HD-DVD has always had, but on HD-DVD you didn't even have enough room to do hi-def sound! It was a half@$$ attempt at a next gen DVD . . . you have the picture, but not the audio quality. Also, Blu-Ray's anti-piracy features far outclass HD-DVD.

Now, the thing that makes the PS3 so hard to program for is the fact that it is very different from anything programmers have had to do before. The 360 is more or less a PC, and any idiot with a bit of coding knowledge can code for that. The PS3 is a very different beast, but it's worth the trouble because even using %30 of its power, you can get something like Uncharted. Meanwhile, the best looking game on the 360 is beyond all doubt Gears of War . . . and that game was out more than a year ago. November 06, to be exact. So in the entire second year of its life, I've seen nothing better than that.

Now, on the PS3, as good as Uncharted looked, MGS4, GT5, and KZ2 blow it out of the water.

Also, about the GTA exclusive content . . . that's cool. Don't get me wrong. I think it's awesome. However, will that move consoles? Of course not. Most X-Box owners (and I'm not talking about fanboys) don't look past the initial purchase of something. You buy it, you play it, you move on.

after you played the regular gt4 without the dlc maybe over 60 hours to finish it, will you really dl the new chapters unless it really changes the story of the game or if the end of the reg. game is a cliff hanger style ending then maybe it is a good idea to dl it but I will say it is such BS if it is they will be milking you guys for everything... map packs and side mission is different but cutting the story to force you to buy the DLC is BS...I was never a fan of the GTA series to tell the truth but if they cut the plot of any games story from either consoles is just plain BS for you to pay to see the ending. thats just what i feel for DL stuff and i am actually worried that game companies will start cutting the whole story of the $60 game to add $9.99 per chapter to finish the REAL STORY of the game. this are just speculation ok not real prices.

Thats funny how you think that the 360 can handle uncharted, depite the developers saying that "There is no way that this game could be ported to the 360" If this game was ported to the 360 then it would've been almost a totally diffrent gameplay experience because they would have to cut out ALOT of extra's that made the game a great experience, but hey, atleast you can dream it. Even if they did manage to fit this game on 360's disk in the best way possible, it wouldn't be long until you'd have to prepare your console to shipping for repairs. Oh and about your blu-ray comment. Don't forget that more than 4/5 of blu-ray players are PS3'S! The PS3 version will be released on the 29th of April in this foul year of our lord, two thousand and eight. Xbox owners will get the rest of the game though DLC to avoid a multi-disk box set. Microsoft paid 50 million dollars to release tidbits of the game over time and increase interest thoughout time. GTA4 is not a first person shooter and most definatly, skill will be involved. Xbox consumers will pay 60 dollars for a DVD the 15 dollars for every DLC release, on top of the ten and five dollar bill a month for XBL. Xbox has 3 cores, its closer to the PC in terms of development because of Microsoft’s dev tools and yes Playstation 3 is something new, unproven technology! Eventually PS3 will catch up and surpass the 360 but like ever other console launch, the later the console the better the graphics and sound - Not the case this time. Catch up is a hard game to follow and Sony have botched the launch totally because of Blue ray. Xbox 360 has had better games since Gears mate, Bioshock to me is better, Fallout 3 will be better and I do think Halo 3 as a package is miles better than any other game online, that includes Call of Duty 4. MGS4 also has alot to live up to and I hope is surpasses the hype mate as I always did like Splinter Cell and double agent was a hard act to follow. Both systems have their strengths but it can't be denied Xbox is shinning brighter than PS3 at the moment mate. You should also check you're details on better piracy software for HD DVD. There is very little I agree but with machines updating through Ethernet, just like xbox 360 with live, it is very hard to even play a pirated game on the 360, HD DVD is a cheaper and better alternative but I believe, as I said, a newer HD format will surpass both very quickly and I would hope the studios are unified in its conception as its consumers that lose. I would consider a PS3 purchase only when software warrantees it, there is nothing I cannot experience better elsewhere. I do hope kill zone isn't all smoke and mirrors too. Otherwise PS3 fanboys have lubed themselves up for nothing but abuse. Other gamers will love it for what it is, an update of a classic, like the gamecube remakes were. I am a gamer mate, not a console basher or format and I believe format wise we were all duped when two HD formats emerged to line corporate executives pockets.
