Agreed. It's one thing to have a laugh when you've got MS marketing out there over hyping and under delivering.
But this game was hardly marketed. No one has the illusion that this will get people to buy Xboxes or save the platform.
It's just a small game that looks great, took a long time to make and probably won't make any money.
No need to kick a guy when he's down at this point.

Next Xbox lol

@jing if you have proof then I stand corrected.
Otherwise it seems like more conspiratorial thinking to explain what could otherwise be explained by natural forces of market economies.
Don't get me wrong, I believe there is bias all over and unsavory influences. I just don't think it's all centrally planned by evil villains in a smoke-filled room

Not long enough to warrant sitting down

While there's obviously a desire to preserve add revenue and early access to review copies, I doubt there's the level of conspiracy here that you imply. I mean there's no direct link between MS and IGN right?

I might buy something like this to play my old library but man those old games are cheap on steam. This console would have to be cheap to make sense. I don't see it happening

I'd be surprised if Sony reversed course and continued to put new releases on PS4. It would cannibalize their PS5 sales

5d ago 8 agree2 disagreeView comment

It would be a niche product like Portal. Not bad, but not mainstream. It's legacy PS4 right?

5d ago 4 agree14 disagreeView comment

Exactly. Sony would have to make enough on hardware sales alone to cover the cost of developing this thing, because people might just be playing old games they already own. It would be neat to go back and play some of those old PS4 PSN free games I never got to, but that wouldn't help PS make more money. Maybe it would be worth it for them to lock more people into PSN, but I'm dubious.
For new games I assume they'd have to include Portal functionality to stream, but that...

5d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

Exactly. This will never make it out of the gate.
The proof will be if these rumors about more exclusives coming to PS. If they were planning to keep the hardware alive, they'd be hoarding those exclusives, because everyone knows you need exclusives to secure a platform

Why would they expand the Xbox hardware footprint when their foundation is crumbling?
Creating a handheld would take a great deal of focus during a time where MS is struggling under the weight of their new game company acquisitions. Those handheld comments were just more Phil diarrhea of the mouth- nothing serious behind it, certainly not within a year

I'd put money on no Xbox console. It's over. 1:5 compared to competition and if the exclusives come to PlayStation it's only gonna get worse. Come this holiday PS Pro will be wooing all the power fiends that aren't in the PC camp just in time for GTA6.
By the time the next Xbox would be ready, they'd practically be starting over and the Xbox name will be trash. No exec will approve that risk and Satya will want to put this embarrassing L behind him.

I think you're hitting on the core issue with Starfield. All of this breaks down of they can't make good games. Whether you're leasing or selling to one platform or multiple, the games gotta be good. That's the thing that's absolutely bonkers about this whole thing: making good games has been Microsoft's Achilles heel for many years now

The PSN essential value you get with base online access is unparalleled, puts Xbox core to shame. The PSN extra package however seems to be diminishing in value as it probably should. With any luck we'll have people buying their frickin games again as these sub services lose popularity

5d ago 12 agree3 disagreeView comment

If they price it so high that people won't want it, they won't sign up so MS won't lose out on sales. Not all of those bad things will happen, just some of them

5d ago 1 agree2 disagreeView comment

That would be a way of getting to say they kept the promise of all games on GamePass without cannibalizing their sales

5d ago 3 agree1 disagreeView comment

I think if your average player would spend more on the MTs than the game cost, Activision would have gone F2P by now. The Activision CEO went on record saying he though putting COD on GamePass was "value destructive" or something like that. COD is like the only game out there that tons of people pay full price for EVERY YEAR, which is an amazing position to be in. If anyone can mess this gravy train up, it's MS though...

That's the kinda funny thing about all the concern for the game... It's only like 8 hours... Good or bad a very small portion of my gaming time will be impacted.
If GTA6 got hosed, on the other hand, I'd probably cry lol

They don't make more money when others scalp for double. They're not purposely shorting the market
