IGN Xbox 360 previews 2008 - The biggest games and the boldest predictions

The dawn of a new year brings with it unlimited possibilities. With more than 200 games already announced for Xbox 360 and many more announcements coming, 2008 has all the makings of a monster year. IGN's purpose in providing a preview of Xbox 360 in 2008 is twofold: They want to help get your mind wrapped around the bevy of promising '08 titles and they want to leave you salivating for more.

The list of IGN's predictions (details are available on the twelfth page of the article):

chances are most of the PS3 titles will be coming in 2009 for sure.

most of those r multiplatform but they will sell millions more on the 360. no one buys games for the ps3. they dont even break 300k. u think developers are going to advertize and put more money on the ps3 side not really. theyre gonna advertize for the 360 because they will make tens of millions of dollars more. and year wait for too human. it will be sick. and grand theft auto will sell like 2 million more then ps3. 360 has alot of potential. ps3 does too. i got both but dont rip on the 360 they own software and it is the best console for games right now.

First - until the game is played there is no way to know if the game rocks or not. So for all the stuff announced, we really don't know if any of it will be good (previews are generally worthless - reviewers tend to be overly nice so they get an early crack at the final code and keep selling advertisements).

Also, we have no idea which games are going to be pushed back into 2009. So I think it is way too early to say. I will say, however, that the hype for 2008 right now seems bigger for the PS3 - but as the lists show, there are a lot of good games coming out for both systems. There should be plenty of games for everyone. And maybe Lost Odyssey will be good (if the frame rate and load times can be addressed).

Anyone that thinks there are no games for the 360 is a few cards short of a full deck. The real question is which games meet their hype. Will Too Human be a great game or merely an interesting attempt? What about Fable 2?

Same with Project Offset or Elveon. Lot of new games I am looking forward to hearing more about.

90 percent of these title are either already on the PS3, Multi-plat or in danger of going exclusive to Sony. The Alan Wake title is a myth, Gears wont be out till 2009 and Fable 2 will be the same linear game as the last........ Ugh...

* MGS4 although hyped by fanboys will not sell consoles( do I dare say its a niche game when compared to the size of its former fanbase and the last one sold poorly)...

* LBP will fizzle out fast...

* GT5 will appeal to many but won't move consoles off the shelfs or sell near the as much as average 360 games when released.

* Resistance 2 will be an average game on the market but a good game for a PS3 game compared to multi platform games and 360 exclusives.

The 360 lineup is good if you look at the multiplatforms. Games like GTA4, RE5 and so are all great, however, their exclusives can sadly NOT be compared with the Ps3. I mean Alan Sleep and Too Human doesn't seem to be convincing enough. Splinter Cell conviction? Please I can tell you right now it'll suck. Its exactley the same game with just added moves. SC came out in like 2002 and they have just fed the game new moves year after year. This is Sonys year all the way.

Here we are almost one month in 08 and the Wii and 360 still pwn. This will continue untill FF and MGS4 comes out ant the PS3 will have a month on top. PS3 fans will scream victory like they did in July 07 and last month and it will all come crashing down again like it keeps doing over and over again.

LOL I remember that so well back in last July when Sony did that "slight of hand" price drop the PS3 had two whole weeks on top and Droids claimed victory LOL that was some funny sh!t. Lets not forget the "victory" claiming they did for Dec and "Worldwide" sales and how NPD and the "we cant count" VG actualy showed the 360 was ahead of the PS3 worldwide my a large "millions" margin.

There is plenty to play on xbox 360, and even more if you go for bargains, Their is a whole lot of badass games on the shelves for 360 unlike the other two, their just starting.

Too Human,(at least 85%) Alan Wake(i would say it's this year's bioshock(95%) have just as much potential as Little Big Planet and Infamous of having critically high positive reviews. Quit fooling yourselves.

Ninja Gaiden 2, Fable 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction should be 90%+.

The least i expect a 360 exclusive would be 85% besides Lost Oddysey(maybe an 80%). KOF:Circle of Doom was a FAIL(still better then lair, Dominion the MMORPG, APD and Huxley should be great.

Gears of War 2, Banjo Kazooie 3 and Jade Empire 2 could blow us all away and have just as much chance as Killzone 2 and Resistance 2.

The 360 is going to have a good year no doubt but they don't have as much hype this year though.

I hope Lost Odyssey does good and Ninja Gaiden 2 but I'm still skeptical on games like Alan Wake because there has been nothing new on it in a long time.
