Players need to torch their games if they attempt this, even worse than PC players did for the account login for Helldivers 2. A lot worse.

More like how the sales of Battlefront 2 and Shadow Of War were severely hurt over their loot boxes. Make people not want to touch these games through bad word of mouth.

I use to like EA as a kid now I just hate them period. They have some games I like such as Dead Space, ME, Dante's Inferno, Alice. But after that I find them quite useless and their greedy shady actions speak louder then words

I think they filed a patent on this a couple of gens back, but have not gone through with it-surprisingly.

They mentioned billboards on Burnout or need for speed could update with adds, along with sports games like in real life.

I’m sure if it starts that way, most people would be fine. EA, being EA-will probably then eventually stop gameplay for an ad break and probably force you to sub to their service to skip ads eventually.

More reasons why I've boycotted them for years. EA hurt sports games development with no competition by strong arming their competitors. They've shut down many developers I liked and stopped making game IPs I enjoyed. I hate the company.

Product placement in a game might be okay as to make some games seem more closer to reality. But EA, just like Microsoft and Facebook, etc want to feed you ads like Google does on YouTube taking away any enjoyment of play.

Even Netflix and Prime Video, which are paid subscriptions, have ad versions now. This is crappy business especially for being in-game ads. This hints at probably being always online.

Keep in mind that when they do this other companies are going to follow suit because that's how they operate, "How can we do that, but do it our way?"
No one wants this and it doesn't benefit the consumer one bit, if we let them get away with that with no backlash they pretty much know they can get away with anything.
