The Case For Nero

I like many people have played the whole Devil May Cry series from the time of its conception on the original PlayStation. When it first came out back then it was a one of a kind game. Dante was a great character and his moves and actions were unbelievable. He was fast and the fact that you could upgrade him RPG style made him all that much cooler.  This coolness lasted through the second iteration of the series in DMC2 although the second DMC is the most hated in the series. It was boring and introduced another playable character that was lame. Thankfully Capcom heard the peoples cries and decided to make the third game a prequel to the previous two. This was a great move. In the third, Dante was younger and you could choose one of four different fighting styles to use with him. You also got new weapons to play with like the shotgun and Cerberus. The plot was better and everyone was happy, for the most part.  Everyone except me. I felt like Dante was getting old. He had done pretty much the same moves for the entire series of the game. I know they added  the ability to change fighting styles but how many people honestly used Royal Guard and Trickster for more than 10 minutes before switching to Gunslinger and SwordMaster? I doubt very few. Dante had become tired and not fun and fresh as he once was. Fast forward to DMC4. I was debating on whether or not to pick the title up because I didn't know what else they could do with Dante to make him interesting again, when much to my surprise I learned he wasn't the only character in the game again. There was a new kid on the block and his name is Nero. When I saw a picture of Nero I was a little taken back by  his uncanny resemblance of Dante. I thought oh no, here we go again. Is Capcom pulling a DMC2 again and making a new lamer character that everyone will loathe using? Hearing this, I stayed away. Although the videos I had seen previewing the game looked cool. I still stayed away. Until, I noticed I was running out of games to play and the reviews for the gaming were coming back quite rosy. This pushed me over the edge into 'I'll give it a shot' land and I picked up the title. After the long install I set in to find out whether this game was any good. Quickly I found that you started the game with the new guy and that he was much cooler than I ever expected. So I am going to explain why from my point a view Nero is a much better character to play as and that he should get his own series.

First, Nero didn't have any of the hang ups that Dante had gotten over the years. He was fast and nimble just like Dante but he didn't have some of the stutter step breaks in action that Dante has. Many of  the things that make him different, make him better. His sword is a lot cooler than anything that Dante had used. Its more powerful and is used in a much more fluid way. The gun(s) Nero use while not as diverse as Dante aren't any less powerful than his. I find that Nero's gun(s) shoot more rapidly and can be shot more times without a break compared to Dantes. Guns and Swords aside, The Devil Bringer is what won me over for Nero. The combos you could do with it after you knocked out a boss are amazing. The bring the game to new heights beside the already useful things you can do with it. You can grab enemy and pull them any which way and even fling things that you find. It is a welcome and awesome addition to Nero's already excellent array of weapons and attacks. Overall, Nero just seems fresh and new with tighter and better attacks. He's may not have all the options that Dante does but I think Dante's options are over rated and really unnecessary. In light of these things I have found that Nero is a much better character and should take over the DMC series or get a series of his own. What do you think? Do you like Dante or Nero more? Should he take the series over as the lead or get his own? Or neither?

At the moment, I'm still on the fence. I enjoy using both characters although Dantes actual levels were sadly pretty poor. I'll say no more in case people haven't got up to his stages yet but they should have been a lot more original.

Nero seems way more accesable than Dante. This is good for newcomers to the series and for people like me who hasn't played a DMC for a couple of years. It gave me a chance to brush the dust off and settle into the game once more. His Devil Bringer is a bit overpowered if you ask me but that makes up for the lack of his aresenal compared to Dantes. It allows for some unreal combos and I found getting S, SS and SSS combos pretty easy to obtain.

I'm not sure I agree with you about Neros Blue Rose compared to Dantes old faithful Ebony and Ivory. I ended up mapping Neros gun to R2 and only really ever use it for lvl3 blasts and EMERGENCY stay aloft moments like the lightning chamber and damn I forget his name... The giant frog. Dantes guns seem a lot more powerful and I find I use them on the default button a lot more than Neros. Even without using much Gunslinger style.

When I got to Dantes levels DAMN! I felt like such a noob, everything seemed alien after using Nero and I was lucky to struggle through his level stylishly enough =) I've completed Devil Hunter and am currently going through Son of Spada mode. I still haven't fully upgraded either character but only have 2 moves left to purchase for each but they're racking in at a hefty 50,000 blessed souls which is going to take a while. I've only really concentrated on Dantes sword up till now. I wanted an S in all levels and I'm much more competent with the sword so stuck to that. Now that I've unlocked the Bloody Palace mode, it should give me a chance to mess around a bit more and learn Gilgamesh and Lucifer. And I think when I've got those down and am able to switch weapons and know what I'm doing (LOL) I think Dante is gonna become a freakin powerhouse.

In conclusion I think that's it. Nero is easier to pick up and play with. Dante is going to take a bit more time mastering but when I do I think He's going to come out on top for me.

At the end of the day though. I am enjoying both characters and they're different enough to me to make me want to keep using both. I think it's going to be Dante though who will be first to beat Bloody Palace under my control.

Nero is noob friendly,But with Dante you have to be more skilled.

But i think Nero have better airattacks & Dante have better groundattacks.

Plus well like i said Nero is noob friendly, wich means if you have Nero on automatic then you can almost go through the game without using the stick(where you walk)if it is demons surrounding you then you can pretty much just push triangle & square.
You have to do more then that with Dante.

Why would you want to use automatic for any reason other to see what it does? I selected it by accident although I did want to see what it meant.

When I started pulling out moves I didn't want to it was turned off and I'll never touch it again! =)

Automatic shouldn't be in the game.

There will be people who prefer Nero over Dante. There are people that prefer Vergil over Dante. But Dante has the most potential and versatility compared to the other 2. A year from now you will probably see many more combo videos from Dante than that of Nero. There are only so many things you can do with his moveset. The thing I liked best about Nero is that he introduced some new command functions. Such as the inputs for Calibur, Shuffle, Maximum Bet, and Showdown. Now if they can give those inputs to Dante then he will have even more melee attack and style attacks further increasing his potential for combos. Looking at DMC3 vids, the combos people made using all 6 different styles is amazing. Its something that the current Nero can't compare to. Maybe next time. They should each get their own game, but make another Dante one first.

Nero is fun to play with though.

I wish that can change Microsoft step up lol

Funny though as Ms wanted nothing to do with crossplay during the 360 when they were beating ps3 early(ps3 was the tortoise that gen).
