Is Portal 2 the funniest game ever?

I can't remember laughing so much through an entire play through of a game. I really do think Portal 2 rivals the best comedy films out there, with actors J.K. Simmons and Stephen Merchant they have two great comedy actors who never fail to make me laugh. I'd love to talk about my funniest bits but I don't want to spoil the game for people who have not completed the single player yet. Can you think of any other funny games, I can remember the odd easter egg. But I can't remember a game that is funny from start to finish. I suppose you could make an argument for the Grand Theft Auto series but I don't think even that is in the same league. I think Portal has created new comedy genre for the games industry.

So what now, who is going to follow in Portals foot steps and make a comedy game. I think the next really funny game will be Duke Nukem but after that who knows. Comedy in games is few and far between, the industry has become far to serious for my liking. Look at the last GTA game, there where alot of complaints because the game had ditched the slap stick comedy which had made the previous games so enjoyable. Lets hope Rockstar take the next game back to its roots.

If the project cafe images are real then it looks as if Nintendo are going for the gimmick to sell there console again, I dont want a big ass screen on my controller. Consoles are meant to be enjoyed in the comfort of your home on a massive couch, on a huge screen and not on a tiny screen on a wannabe 360 pad. I'll be giving that a miss even if it is more powerful than my 360 and PS3, I'd rather wait for the true next gen consoles to arrive. I can say with some confidence that project cafe will be slightly more powerful than the PS3 so why would you want to spend another 300$ on something that will be obsolete in another 2 years when the new xbox arrives(hopefully).

I've never been into handhelds, I don't really see point in them to be honest. I've always done my gaming in house on a TV, but the NPG is really tempting me. I love the fact that it has two analogue sticks for FPS games and for better all round control because that's been the problem for me with past handhelds including the PSP. Games were limited by the control options, with only one analogue stick on the PSP you couldn't have the range of games the NPG will have and that's what's so tempting. I can imagine getting a game of modern warfare 3 going on the train to work, it would be awsome, no other handheld has been capable of doing this before and then there's the power of the thing. Its a true next gen portable, not just a 3D version of the DS cough cough.

I TOTALLY agree, everything about this game screams "Game of the Year"!

Agreed, the game was such an amazing experience, I've never actually had that much fun playing portal before.

Games that roflcopter attacked me:

Portal 1/2
Monkey Island (nearly all of them)
Day of the Tentacle
Kings Quest 6
3D Dot Game Heroes

These are just the deliberately funny ones, I have had a good few laughs even in games like Demon's Souls. I believe that, given the interactive nature of video games, you can create your own humour (yes it has a U in it in proper English). Whether that's pushing the AI system to perform weird acts, using glitches to fly/fall/walk though walls or just creating a penis themed level in Little Big Planet.

As for the NGP, my only two complaints on the PSP were the touchy shoulder buttons during video playback (which they fixed) and the lack of a second analog stick. Upon finding out that the NGP has two I went from completely uninterested to buying day one, if the launch line-up is good enough to justify the price.

Good list.

I'd add The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom and Magicka along with it too... and well, anything written by Tim Schafer.
Bard's Tale also had some humour.

There's been many funny games. It's just that not many become that popular. =/

I really enjoyed 3d dot heroes. I should go back and try to get some of those insane trophies. I would like to add the 2 penny arcade games as they are hilarious.

GTA is funnier and I'm a huge Stephen Merchant fan (well, Pilkington fan, but Merchant > Gervais).

Wheatley's random comment about "interesting humans and their folklore" probably made me laugh the hardest.

damn, almost 3 years after it came out on the EGS

Battlestar2311h ago

Awesome though i hope the collection is around 30/40 dollars as any higher would be unfair for those of us waiting for the anti gamer EGS exclusive deal to expire.

neutralgamer19922h ago

Nice hopefully a bundle price will be available
