The Sad Truth, Xbox360 Has But One Single AAA Title This Year

Yep, just one, exclusively speaking that is

Multi-Plat it has many. but multi-plat means its available on PS3 too, and if someone is wanting to buy a console a multi-plat certainly cant sell it if they can just as easily buy the game on another console.

So lets talk, AAA Exclusive titles for the Xbox360

it is no doubt that it has been a disappointing year for the 360 up until now, with Fable II and Gears Of War 2.

So what is this ONE single AAA Title? why it is Gears Of War 2 of course, and thats it, for the entire year people.

Now i know many of you will try and say Fable II is AAA, but it isn't, technically speaking a game has to have 90+ on Metacritic to be considered a true AAA

(AAA is defined by score and not a gamers opinion no matter how many of them they are)

So Fable II is out, but oh wait! of course Left 4 Dead will end up with a higher than 90 on Metacritic you silly brit!

But Left 4 Dead is not an exclusive is it?

No. because we all know, Left 4 Dead is primarily a PC game, and have no doubt my fellow gamers the PC experience of Left 4 Dead will be Far superior on the PC than the 360

therefor it is not a 360 exclusive. PS3 exclusive for example are just that, it is physically impossible to play the game anywhere else besides a
Sony Playstation 3

and of course, neither PSN nor XBLA titles are included in this people, we are talking real actual retail games.

PS3 - 3 AAA Titles
360  - 1 AAA Title

PS3 having, LittleBigPlanet (which out scores the likes of Gears 1 and Halo 3 the 360's biggest franchises)

Resistance 2 (Currently having a 91 on Meta and is only going to go upwards)

MGS4 (what more can be said? most epic game of the year)

Is anyone surprised that Xbox fanboys are the only ones that care about scores and sales of the games? That's why games on Xbox 360 sell a lot, not because they really want to play all the games, but they wanna show the world how good games are by the amount of sales they get, kinda like when HD-DVD fanboys organized massive shopping dates and still failed anyway. Yeah, and some day you will learn about behavioral economics and how consumer sales are only indicative of what people want BEFORE KNOWING THE QUALITY OF A PRODUCT, i.e. consumer DEMAND is related with marketing and consumer manipulation through the use of media, it can't really be related with the quality of a product because, since the quality is subjective and therefore is determined once you actually play the game.

The 2.1 million people that bought a certain game on day one didn't really play it, they didn't buy it because they knew the game was good; they thought the game was good because like good lemmings, they took as gospel what the media told them about it. Some day you will learn that quality of a game is subjective unless a game is actually broken.

... to call names and deny facts. A good game, what constitutes a good game, has little to do with its technical aspects. Believing so is patently false.

Simply put: a "good game," a great game, is determined by the enjoyment it delivers to the broadest spectrum of its potential audience. And yes, once again, this IS reflected in sales.

Greatness is measured by success. How can it be otherwise?

Just because a given game can claim technical excellence does not mean it is a great game. It simply means it is a technically ambitious product. There is such a thing as over-reaching.

In the instance of MGS4, it is true it has sold over 4 million copies, most copies going to eager fans of the series with the rest going to a game-hungry PS3 user base.

I am not saying MGS4 is not a great game, or even a successful game, it most certainly is----but--it is also clear that is quickly reaching a saturation point as weekly sales have begun to fade noticeably. MGS4 has lost its legs. By the time MGS3 reaches its one year mark, sales will be down to a trickle.

The fact remains, technical aspects aside, there are simply many far better games than MGS4... And contrary to your youthful naivete, sales denotes a product's success and a product's success defines its greatness.

I've worked in the music business, marketing & promotions, for over thirty years. Anyone who does not believe sales measures greatness in our consumer-centric world, is only kidding themself.

Over an extended period of time, a product that continues to sell well has been judged by the consumer to be a superior product. It's a basic fact.

With much respect for MGS4, it is false to think that it will ever reach Halo 3's sales figures. MGS4 will not even get close. It's drop-off rate is proof.

The reason? As fine a game as MGS4 may be, it is a 'niche' game appealing to a limited demographic. Not everyone gets it. And certainly not everyone would find it enjoyable.

Conversly, Nintendo's Wii has the broadest appeal as it virtually owns the 'casual gamer' market. The Wii is a huge success because of it's "pick up and play" nature.

The PS3 is at the other end of the spectrum; it's hardcore all the way. The 360 resides smack in the middle: it appeals to hardcore and casual gamers alike.

The point I was trying to make was that the definition of "triple-A" games needs to more closely considered.

There is no doubt that MGS4 is an ambitious effort and a technically superior game; it's also proven itself in sales though it lacks the legs of Halo 3.

Ali's post is nothing more than fanboy fantasy and spin. Seriously, achieving a Metacritic score of 90+ is not the end-all-to-be-all achievement so many assume. It merely emphasizes what qualities reviewers deem worthy; it remains, at best, purely subjective.

It certainly does not reveal the final tally that actually does bestow the title of "triple-A game." Sales figures---"long legs," over time, determines that. Thinking otherwise is denial of fact.
