Why Battlefield 3 Isn't as Good as Bad Company 2

Pixels or Death's Henry McMunn talks about his impressions playing Battlefield 3 coming off of the omnipresent high that was Bad Company 2:

"Battlefield 3 isn’t just serious, it is dead serious, and after hours of play it wears down on you. Everything that had potential for laughs and/or badassery seems to have been rationalized, dulled down or taken out altogether. To put it bluntly, there simply isn’t much thrill in Battlefield 3."

I didn't expect to agree with this guy, but after reading through, I actually do..

JoGam4549d ago (Edited 4549d ago )

I can't finish my story. Everytime I continue my story, my PS3 freezes. Do anyone know how to fix or if a fix is coming?

deadpoole4549d ago (Edited 4549d ago )

to be very honest and I mean to say ... very very honest ...BFBC2 maps were lot more fun than many BF3.

Back to Karkand, maps taken from BF2 ... they are lot more fun than any original BF3 maps ... u wanna know why ... because

1. They are not as big as Bad company 2, I mean to say open field (majority are city based maps - leaves u nothing but with alleys), and than there are those we do have big in size .. both in rush and conquest mode, point of capture are in really really odd positions (completely isolated - safehaven for campers), either they are placed tooo high on plateaus formin craters or tooo low for defenders ... and all u end up doin is get in close to the point and camp.

2. Its like you got all this tanks, gizmos, weapons and what not ... all you are left to fight is in claustrophobic place.

But anywayssss ... Im enjoyin B2K maps.

SageHonor4549d ago

Yup, I agree. BF3 is fun but I believe BFBC 2 is the better game.

Spitfire_Riggz4549d ago

I agree with most of the article however I dont think the maps are ugly, the helicopters arent "twice as hard to fly and twice as useless" as are the jets.

Almost exact opposite, I could never fly the chopper in BC2 and here I am doing very well in the Jet and Chopper on B3

Kleptic4549d ago

He admits in the article that he purposely focused on the highs of BFBC2 and 'lows', if you could call it that, of BF3...

which is fine...but basically his opinion boils down to a dislike of the tone of BF3...and nothing more...

but like it or not, that is exactly what DICE had to do with BF3...as PC minions were screaming for years that BC was a console joke that had nothing to do with the real series...and i think BF3 is a good blend of both overall...

and yeah, choppers are useless?...hardly...I agree jets are pretty pointless as far as winning a round for your team...but a good chopper pilot is a flying fortress, and can easily give excellent cover support for attacking squads...

oh well...i've liked them all...and like them all differently...BF3 isn't BC3...so his argument doesn't hold much ground...if he liked BC2 more, thats fine...although plenty of us were pretty tired of nothing but snipers...

Justsayin4549d ago

What a load of crap!! I only have about 30hrs in and i have at least 7-10 stories i can already tell. In fact, three of those stories i had to call and tell my friends who don't even play BF.

BF2 was a great game, and BF3 is a new game of its own. you want the same game as last year, go buy MW....couldn't resist.

BF3 make you take a bit of a different approach. I have never had any trouble with campers. EVER!!!

Sure, Metro levels not the greatest, but i like that its in there for variety...you don't like it don't play it, i don't.

The choppers have gotten better, not worst. in BF2 i never got a chopper kill, I have 4 in my 30hrs in BF3 and 1, as a passenger gunner.

The Jets are awesome, now that i can fly the f@ck out of them! I actually grazed water and was able to pull up.

BOTTOM LINE: if you cant have amazing moments in this game, trade in your ps3 for a wii and enjoy dance dance revolution, im sure it will give you plenty to talk about.

FailboatSkipper4549d ago

Yo, writer here.

Just to say it's cool you giving your opinion and stuff, but I'm not sure if you realise I'm talking about the differences between BFBC2 and BF3, not BF2 and BF3. Maybe that's what you meant by BF2, I'm not sure, I'm just clarifying.

Everyone else, thanks for the response, positive and negative. Especially you Mrsatan, you do your thing and let no one stop you.

ATi_Elite4549d ago (Edited 4549d ago )

Dude your smoking some bad drugs! Although i respect your opinion i totally disagree.

BF3 is far and away better than BC2. And remember BF is geared more towards a realistic approach but not quit Arma while BC is the arcade type of action so therefore i can see why you prefer BC2 and it's arcade feel versus BF and it's more serious gameplay.

Caspian Border Kharg Island Operation Firestorm Noshahr Canals plus the Karkand map pak are unbelievably AWESOME!

you can put 3 of BFBC2 largest map (Atacama Deserts) inside of Operation Firestorm! OP-firestorm with 128 players works just fine and is PURE chaos of joy!

Granted the infantry only maps i rarely play cause to me they feel like COD and that's not what BF is all about. I stick to the large vehicle maps in conquest mode cause this is the pedigree of BF.

Karkand alone is worth the price of admission.

I loved BC2 but BF3 has no equal!

Kurt Russell4548d ago

I like BF3 abotu as much as I did BC2. I still have hell yeah moments, I can fly Jets and Helis just the same. I'm still loving the game just as much as I have the previous Battlefields. I would have liked 6 man squads brought back, but never mind.

frostypants4548d ago (Edited 4548d ago )

BF3 has a campaign mode? Is THAT what the other DVD was for? I just put my beer on it.

And BFBC2's campaign was boring for me. The only part that I found cool was the final sequence.

Battlefield is about online play above all.

ATi_Elite4548d ago

LOL!!!!!!!! That free BF3 Beer Coaster is AWESOME!!!

Bubbles up for Funny as hell!

Best comment all day!

I still haven't played BC2 Sp and I've only seen my friend play BF3 SP. I strictly play the MP modes for these games cause that's what BF is all about.

LoaMcLoa4549d ago

There should be an article saying: "And why Battlefield 2 is better than both"

SKUD4549d ago (Edited 4549d ago )

Six man squads and commander mode?. Yes. Those who disagree have never played BF2 (PC). You can always try it. Servers are still up and running. 2142 also.

frostypants4548d ago (Edited 4548d ago )

I've played BF2. It was fun, but people forget the bad aspects of it: dolphin-diving with LMGs, the horrible menus (the server browser was/is a piece of sh**), complete lack of destructibility, bad hit detection, wonky weapon modeling, etc. BF3 is far more polished.

scrambles4549d ago

yes yes we know but nowadays you cant compare old bf to new bf. theyre similar but playing style has completely changed.... idk if i like it

BattleAxe4549d ago

BF2 sucked. The ballistics of the guns were terrible, the maps were boring, and spawn camping was(and still is) the worst of any game I've ever played. Lets also not forget about the massive amounts of cheaters that play that game.

csreynolds4549d ago

I whole-heartedly agree. I thought I was the only one...

BurntWolfAnkles4549d ago

Maybe the next installment of Bad Company can combine the best of both worlds, time will tell.

DasTier4549d ago

yep the level of destruction and hardcore mode from bc2, but the range and customisation of weapons from bf3 (but hopefully also the larger squads from bf2)

Yes great game spec ops! Since the time we’ve been asking sony to make one:/

Auto Modelista.. a PS2 capcom racer!! A blast to play and great graphics!
Maximo!
Rival Schools!

LordoftheCritics97d ago

Spec Ops: The Line was super dark.

Incredible story.

SheenuTheLegend96d ago

all the games in the above list are bang on. this is the only reason we need backwards compatibility and physical presense of games for the upcoming future, no matter what.

Yi-Long97d ago

Honorable mention to the excellent Driveclub, one of the best racing games of all-time and one of my favourite games ever.

melons97d ago

yes! incredible rain effects; so good to drive along in rain with your Spotify playlist blaring

Skuletor97d ago

I really wanted a MotorStorm using the same engine, Driveclub is easily one of the best looking games on PS4 and I'm surprised they didn't even give it a PS4 Pro patch.

ravens5296d ago

Yes indeed. May just install it on my PS5. You know, physical copy and all.

monkey60296d ago

I adored Driveclub and the Bike expansion. I also loved Motorstorm. Evolution shutting down was a crime

Outrun Online Arcade, Sega Rally Online Arcade, After Burner Climax... all good stuff. I keep my 360 hooked up to play these as well as the TMNT games that were also delisted.

Skuletor97d ago

I have quite a few of these. Timed licenses suck.

Terry_B96d ago (Edited 96d ago )

wow...I have all of them except the Nintendo ones either in physical or digital version.

Also..Deadpool the Game is missing on that list.

I had no idea that Bad Company 2 was still running, and only now that I know, I want to jump on! 😥

SonyStyled171d ago

I was able to find games in the Vietnam dlc on ps3 the last week. There were articles on here about the server closure when it was announced in April

DaReapa171d ago

BF1943 is the only online MP game that I was genuinely interested in. Been playing since launch 14 years ago. Hate that I couldn't put in as much time to play as I'd hoped for during the final week.

Inverno170d ago

I got really into 43 when I bought Bf3, and preferred it. Everything that I disliked or found annoying about Bf3, wasn't an issue in 43. Too bad they never bothered releasing it on PS4 or PC.

1nsomniac170d ago (Edited 170d ago )

Dead Space 2...... I wasn't even aware that had multiplayer. Nevermind that it was apparently one of their best multiplayers!

anast170d ago

Once people stop buying micros, these companies close the doors.

Xenial170d ago

Dead Space 2 multiplayer had been hanging on for years - I'd boot my PS3 up to see some familiar names in lobbies. This will definitely be missed!

Battlefield Legacy - Sunsetting Announcement

EA: "As we close in on 15 years since the release of Battlefield 1943, and Bad Company™ 1 & 2, we are announcing that their journey is coming to an end."

darthv72435d ago

This reminds me... I have ME on my PS3 hdd. Never really played it, but it was free.

XiNatsuDragnel435d ago

Digital future ppl is good they say nope imo

Eidolon434d ago

And it still says nothing about being able to downloaded even when it's off the storefront, that's a huge ouchie for some who somehow still have it in their backlog...

Shane Kim434d ago

Dont make it an issue when it's not. If you haven't played it in 15 years, chances are you'll never play it.

isarai435d ago

That all digital future sure looks great!

/s

zidane1341435d ago (Edited 435d ago )

Online game servers shut off eventually all the time. Doesn’t matter if you have the disc or not. Even if you have the disc, it’ll be just paperweight unless the game lets you connect directly to a friend or LAN play.

isarai435d ago (Edited 435d ago )

Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.

zidane1341435d ago

@israrai, you can still buy the disc for less then 10$. Hardly a loss.

TheEnigma313435d ago

You shouldn't have to buy the disc, that's the issue.

OhReginald434d ago (Edited 434d ago )

Some brilliant minds created servers to keep these old online games alive. A lot of ps2 and ps3 games that had there servers shut down a long time ago have been restored by fans to keep it going. Warhawk, killzone 2, socom 2/ confrontation, resident evil outbreak series, etc.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 434d ago
DankSinatra434d ago

The disc still exist. I don’t understand the issue. You guys are upset about that “all digital future” yet these games are not “digital only”. Hell digital only is a minority in the gaming world and so far we haven’t moved into it, the only digital only games are games as a service or online only games, which end up failing in the end.

This is no different than a store that stops selling old games, just go and buy a copy somewhere else. So which is it, you hate all digital or you like it? Make up your mind.

isarai434d ago

Talk about missing the point entirely. I'm not going to sit here and explain it to you, figure it out.

DankSinatra434d ago

Talk about whining about something and not wanting to explain from an off handed sarcastic original comment.

I got the point just fine. You’re literally complaining about something that has an easy alternative to it.

ManMarmalade434d ago

I don't think you got the point

DankSinatra434d ago (Edited 434d ago )

@ManMarmalade

No I got it, it has to do with the push towards a future of all digital and reprocussions of losing games. Something I already stayed that hasn’t happened nor is it large enough right now to cause any issues as the games that are all digital are online only to begin with or make up the minority of games

So I’ll say it again, the disc still exists for these games that are over a decade old and can still be played easily. You guys are contradicting the whole “we don’t want a digital only future” crying when the dude I originally responded to stated:

“Read the article bro. They are delisting the games, including mirrors edge which is an offline game. Online servers i can understand, not being able to buy/download the games anymore? Completely separate issue, especially seeing as how some these games had lengthy sp campaigns and not just mp.“

So again, which is it? Do you hate all digital or do you want it?

Inverno435d ago

On PC I don't think it's much of a problem but I'm sad to see BF43 being shut down. I haven't played it in a while since it's stuck on PS3, but i preferred it way more over BF3. It was the lack of invisible barriers which made it better for me.

badz149435d ago

BFBC2 was still the best overall package offered by the franchise so far IMO

porkChop435d ago

Absolutely. BC2 was such a great game. It's a shame we never got BC3.

P_Bomb434d ago

I had a great run on Bad Company 2. Pound for pound, as solid a BF package as there’s been.

InUrFoxHole435d ago

Does anyone play the last BF anymore? I searched crossplay servers and it was 20 people the most on all the servers? Can never find a game

SonyStyled435d ago

The last BC you mean? I was still able to find 10v10 on ps3 2 years ago on NA servers during the evenings. I have all the free and paid dlc installed, but there want any matches in the Vietnam dlc.
