JD: "It's the fad now. Classic video game franchises -- those long thought to be dead -- are being rebooted and redesigned to become first-person shooters for our modern era. We saw the Fallout series jump to first-person a few years back. Recently, XCOM was announced as a first-person strategy game. Even more recently, the legendary strategy franchise Syndicate was shown off as a first-person steampunk shooter.
And while it can be debated whether or not the "first-person" perspective of storytelling is right for these games, the cold truth is that we're seeing the beginning of a trend. Like Hollywood, the video game industry is turning nostalgia into a source of income -- culling cult hits from the 1980s and 1990s to mutate into the new age. So, we're taking this idea and running with it. We know it'll probably be controversial. But we're going to do it anyway. These are ten games that would be awesome reboots for the seventh generation. Enjoy!"
Digital Foundry : Outcast first launched in 1999 delivering state-of-the-art voxel-driven visuals in what was then a novel open-world design - but its sequel never landed... until now. In this special video, John Linneman tells the story of the original game, its technology and off-shoot projects before concentrating on Outcast: A New Beginning, which finally realises the original developer's vision for a full Outcast sequel.
Got that retro survival horror bug? Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best survival horror games from yesteryear.
Eternal Darkness was way ahead of its time especially for a Nintendo exclusive.
I would love to see a remake or sequel (multiplatform)
4 people love Eternal Darkness.
Quick! Jump on that remake, whoever holds the rights these days.
Clock Tower PC and console ports have beeen announced for early 2024, with physical releases for the classic horror game also planned. Features list revealed along with more details.
i have never played this one, but i have seen alot of stuff and ill absolutely going to get it.
I bought this for the PlayStation and it wasn't cheap on ebay along side of The city of the lost children.
I remember playing this one on my PC some years ago, with an unofficial translation. Of course, I sailed the seven seas for that, and this will be an opportunity to own the game legally/revisit it on my console of choice, so I’m looking forward to this.
There is some good points to be had, i would love a Blood omen game done in the style of Oblivion, but to have Shenmue in First person would destroy it.
Stop the first person madness! We have too many 1st person games already...
First X-Com, then Syndicate. What now? Populous? Sim City?
When an old game turns into an FPS now they turn to shit.
I'd love to see a new Legacy of Kain game, but certainly not a first person game. One of the things that made LoK so great was that they were partially open-world platforming/adventure games. Similar to the Uncharted or Tomb Raider series. Taking that away would just be...bleh.
I'll take a new LoK game but if they made it first person I'd find the director/producer of the game and spit in their face.
