Wii Sale Shock: Opoona, Super Mario Galaxy on First Day

According to Japanese blogger 'Sinobi', which regularly updates with early sales figures, Koei's Wii-exclusive RPG 'Opoona' - which has been getting positive previews and good magazine coverage - has sold only 2,500 copies on its first day with 3.7 million Wii's in Japan. Ace Combat 6, with fewer than 500,000 Xbox 360 in Japan, has passed 35,000 units.

Super Mario Galaxy has sold... only 130,000 units on its first day. Cubed³ provides comparative sale data to show why a lot of forum-dwellers appear to be shocked by that number.

Well it's Mario and this is in regards to the 'forum-dwellers' who expected SMG to sell 10 million it's first day. You know how it is. Wii games usually are marathon runners takes a bit to get to the high sales but they'll get there. I don't think Mario 1 got to 40 million in a year.

Perhaps worse is the simple fact that Mario Galaxy will be flirting with a million at this rate after just one week!

That's not selling badly, when in a single area your game can sell almost a million in just a week.

Nintendoes biggest problem is that a most people who bought the wii are casual gamers and lot of those dont buy lots of games.

These people are broken down into a couple of categories,

1. People who bought the wii because its cool, new, everyone else has one and only really play wii sports occasionally.

2. People who play pirate/ copy games. The Wii was quickly effected by piracy with any modchips hitting the market. People who have a chipped we obviously dont buy software.

Lets not forget Super mario Galaxy was leaked onto the net a couple of weeks before its release so this has probably effected the games sales.

Or they are starting to realize just like Zelda games they want something else. Unless they are deathly afraid that Galaxy is another Sunshine ;o

Anyways, In a month, let's just look at the sales chart and god knows Nintendo doesn't jump in here talking about "Shortage" of game.

Well opoona got pretty average reviews actually.. and a lot are turned off by its strange character design. Koei really didnt think it through.

In fact, that was even posted AFTER Capcom said they had some of their highest profits of all time because of the DS and Wii. That was after both Red Steel and Rayman became million sellers.

If you were saying it before the Wii came out, link us. If you can't, don't list to things you said, like no one but Nintendo makes money on the Wii, after some third parties already made a fortune on the Wii.

Makes no sense, Mario Galaxy is the best first party game that has come out (except maybe Zelda but sales were low for it as well) in Japan, the number I expected to be a lot, a lot higher.

130k in a day :| thats 6x the Weekly sale of Halo 3 in Japan :| somehow this is bad? seriously guys. think it through. As for Opoona Koei failed to hype the game or even advertise it. Yeah it got 7's and 8's for reviews but the character design is hideous. It probably turned a lot of people off.

its one fricken DAY! and Japan has a problem with 3d platformers. For some reason they cant deal with motion sickness. Mario 64 wasnt huge in Japan either. look it up

Cooke ppl are so ignorant sometimes huh..I wonder if they read the article properly..or they just saw xbox 360 ,35k....SMG 130k...and thought it was weekly sales...

SMG..is doing well...i can see this selling over 500K-700K...in it's 1st full week.....

It doesn't make any sense.....I say lets wait and see how it sells in other regions, plus the rest of it's first week in Japan.

Nintendo has a huge seller on their hands, I don't think it will dissapoint.
