What Borderlands 2 Needs To Be A Success

OXCGN:

"If you didn’t hear, Borderlands 2 was sort of revealed by Gearbox Software leader Randy Pitchford in a conversation; if that’s not good enough for you, they filed a trademark on the name ‘Borderworlds‘ a while back. It may be unconfirmed, but a sequel is definitely on its way.

"While this is all good and exciting, this immediately brings to mind what they’ll do next.

"Details are nonexistent at this point, but this is what we want Gearbox to present to us on our second looting-spree of Pandora (if that’s even the setting this time)."

Proeliator4856d ago

If all of those things make it into the game, then Borderlands 2 (or whatever they decide to call it) will definitely be one of my most played games.

I just bet they're going to load it full of Duke Nukem references and cameos...

Yi-Long4856d ago

... DLC-milking. Which was the reason why I never picked the first game up, and by now so much time has passed by that I doubt I'll ever will pick it up (GOTY).

Proeliator4856d ago

The original title was NEVER milked! Every single DLC was great (except maybe Mad Moxxi's).

If "milked" means four great pieces of DLC, then by Jove Borderlands was milked.

NukaCola4856d ago

I am getting it regardless, but I would love it if I could import my B-Lands 1 file over to the sequel. Borderlands was a really good game and the online/offline was solid as hell.

DanSolo4856d ago

I enjoyed Borderlands, but I wouldn't say it was a REALLY good game, more a decent game with tons of untapped potential!

gaminoz4856d ago

How well did the original sell?

Regardless, they obviously believe they are on a winner and that means....sequels!

despair4856d ago

I believe it sold better than they expected. So thats good right there.

Stealth20k4856d ago

actually it wasnt revealed in fact the original fake leak was reputed from the developers

BattleAxe4856d ago

It needs to have a better selection of weapons in the next one.

XboxOZ3604856d ago (Edited 4856d ago )

A 'bigger' selection . . .it had a huge selection. You call a selection on possible manufactured/customized weapons of 17,750,000 not enough - shezzzesss . . . are you guys spoilt or what.

http://oxcgn.com/reviews/bo...

From Gearbox "According to Gearbox, there are over 17,750,000 different variations of weapons, as of release. The game uses a procedural process to generate its various guns in certain classes, such as handguns, shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, and more, but with many variations of firing speed, reload speed, damage type and more."

You have to remember, the period in which Borderlands is set is in a time where the ppl had to make do with what they found in order to create weapons, not go and buy a new SAW or AK47 off the shelves at walmart etc.

It's about creating your OWN weapons, not getting standard issue stuff. That's the whole 'concept' of the game -

BattleAxe4856d ago

They all looked the same to me.

XboxOZ3604856d ago

SO you saw all possible 17 odd million of the creations did you? I think not, not even Gearbox said they could make them all, I interviewed Randy Pitchford while he was here in Australia just prior to the games release.

He said the crew could spend a year and not create all the weapons possible, and all would have a unique ability or style.

Truth is, gamers these days a bone lazy, and want everything done for them.

You'd never make a game designer that's for sure. The idea is about creating a concept that 'allows gamers the ability to create what THEY want, not what the studio forces on them'

If you make the correct selection of add-ons, you can make some very formidable weaponry.

I’m glad Embracer is selling them. I hope someone other than MS buys them and frees them up to make great games.

Knightofelemia57d ago

Says right in the article Take Two bought Gearbox off of Embracer.

Sgt_Slaughter57d ago

Reading the article is hard for most people it seems

Knightofelemia56d ago

@Sgt Slaughter

I just like how when a studio automatically goes up for sale. People automatically think Microsoft is just going to jump on it like a fat kit eating a cake.

SimpleSlave57d ago

I mean, having multiple CEOs is a redundancy, soooo... Good luck Randy!!!

Layoffs Hit Gearbox Staff Hours After Embracer Sale

Less than a day after the news that Take-Two Interactive would acquire Borderlands developer Gearbox Entertainment from the embattled Embracer Group, layoffs have already begun. In the hours since former Gearbox employees were made redundant, they've taken to Twitter, and while the total number of staff impacted remains hard to determine, it sounds significant.

I am glad to see Gearbox under Take Two. But lay offs I am not surprised they aren't the only company cutting staff and they won't be the last. And I have a feeling the Borderlands movie honestly will tank when it comes out. The cast is just wow a complete mess Lilith is too old Roland is to small and scrawny. They are missing Brick and Mordecai and I don't think Tiny Tina will be as bat shit nuts as she is in the games.

Inverno62d ago

The movie will definitely flop. It has all the usual actors that have casted in all these video game movie adaptations. Whenever I see Kevin Hart or The Rock or Jack Black i just know it's a cash grab. More so when it's all three together. (The Rock isn't in it)

Juancho5162d ago

When you see actors like that in a movie you can expect it to be bad, i definitely do. They have good chemistry but the movie doesnt shine because it just banks on their presence and people going to see them.

Inverno62d ago

Pfft, literally said yesterday how it must be nerve wracking for the devs and then this shite. People aren't looking to get fired, and these companies don't care in the slightest.

Andrew33662d ago

People aren't looking to get fired. Good insight.

kaos8962d ago (Edited 62d ago )

Inflation post 1/20/2020 is really causing pain to everyone. The cherry on top was companies waiting post 11/8/2022 to start doing layoffs. Hmm, I wonder why they waited past that date... Staring with Google in January 2023 and everyone following suit there after.

anast62d ago

Companies that over-hire should be fined heavily and the CEO loses his/her bonus during layoffs, and that money can go to the workers that they laid off.

Leeroyw62d ago

There's a lot going on in this post that needs further scrutiny.

anast61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

It's a game forum. But you are free to chose one and argue it.

Shiore2u62d ago

I hope Pitchford got let go for the sake of employee safty. The man is a walking grease fire waiting to happen.

Hey n4g, can we maybe not allow articles where you can only read 3% of it before hitting the pay wall?

Snookies12261d ago

The disagrees were from people that already paid, haha.

neutralgamer1992261d ago

They just bought them not long ago. This is absurd. Embracer owns so many gaming studios and IP’s. They just don’t know to manage them right TBH

Give us saints row 1-2 proper HD remaster (3-5 million in sales confirmed as long as no major bugs)

Focus on AA games that cost less than 40 million go develop while funding 2-3 major AAA titles. Those smaller titles should aim for 8/10 type games with focus on fun and be released within 2 years while bigger games are given 3-5 years

Sniperwithacause261d ago

You got it all figured out!
Sounds like you need to send over your resume to corporate office! Lol
All jokes aside. They need to figure it out quickly.

neutralgamer1992261d ago (Edited 261d ago )

Lol no they need suits and number crunchers haha

What use to be available to us as bonus content for free by unlocking or cheat codes is now micro transactions

Gaming is generating so much money that we have so much soulless content simply for money grabs

Ristul260d ago

Embracer's problem is that they have spent too much on acquisitions of game studios and when they did, interest rates were lower when compared to today. With higher interest rates on their loans, they have to sell studios to raise capital.

crazyCoconuts261d ago

Sounds like a multi-million dollar "oops"

BrainSyphoned261d ago

If they would have bought Bethesda their stock would have crashed and sunk the company a couple days ago.

1Victor261d ago (Edited 261d ago )

I’ll be the jerk that says it
Get’m Microsoft get’m, or Sony 🤷🏿

Outside_ofthe_Box261d ago

Hopefully Microsoft saves us and buys them. Gaming has never been better because of them!

shinoff2183261d ago

If your not a borderlands fan what have they made good

dumahim261d ago

@shinoff2183
Brothers in Arms series.

1Victor261d ago (Edited 261d ago )

Thank you your disagrees makes me feel good to know you don’t think I’m a jerk 🤣
