I hope Dead Space 2 has a better mouse control then the 1st had on the PC. Dead Space's mouse control was crap... even with all the fixes and system settings i saw in forums... UTTERLY CRAP MOUSE CONTROL.

I don't know if they improved it with patch's because after the first few days... i just went with the console version.

For first/third person shooters a mouse is still the best way of playing, of course there are exceptions.

But that being said if I went to play a game like dead space I would assume a mouse would give me the most accuracy, although in this case it seems it doesn't.

Mouse is the way to go for shooters, most accurate. It takes a while to get used to a mouse if you are a console kid but once you learn you won't be sorry :)

Ummmm... if you are referring to DS1 with that maybe you shoul've played the game on hardest dificulty setting. It was a pain to start the game. No ammo anywhere and you had to run from enemies and hope you fin ammo from boxes or die trying to kill them with melee. It got easier as the time went by but in the beginning...ugh!

No it isn't but it is quite atmospheric, I find the Japanese style of horror a lot more scary.

However I played the first one four times and it is hands down one of the best games this gen. The demo seemed to confirm that once again the 2nd one will be on a par if not better than the first.

Yeh, you two, it's not Fatal Frame or SH2 scary at all. It even shies away from pre RE4 Resi SH mores but I'd say it was a creepy game rather than a scary one which goes with the "atmospheric" thing you bring up.

I reckon we're in for more action and even less scares this time round as well but if they do it with the class of the first game it will still be well worth playing. It looked good and all the mechanics were great but you needed to play it on hard first time round to get any survival feelings otherwise you had ammo to burn.

I'm not convinced that there will be anyone playing the multiplayer more than a month after release though I hope I'm wrong. I think far too many devs think they MUST have it when, in reality, most people byy very few games for their online component and they can easily be predicted. Like some shooters even-Singularity for example was another(besides COD) acti shooter so why waste the money you could have spent polishing the game and marketing it better rather than try to get people away from trad shooters where the king is published by the same people?

I haven't played any of it yet but I guess if the AC:B MP is still going string now DS2 has a chance(because they're both VERY different from normal Vs shooty or co-op)but, as I say, 99% of people will buy for the SP, imho, and I don't think that, unless it's AMAZINGLY addictive there was much, if any, need for MP and can't see it upping the sales unless this is the case at all. I mean, U2's MP is actually really good(not AS good as it was but, y'know)and even then it still didn't get huge numbers sticking around to play it and that's a more trad shooter than DS2 MP is any day of the week.

IDK, I just think there are so many risky decisions madfe in gaming at the minute because devs and publishers aren't sure what gamers want and if you ask a load of gamers what could make a game better that only has SP they're BOUND to say "Erm MP!" but the question is leading them to say it and I remain totally unconvinced that there will have been any point in DS2 having a MP mode. Hope I'm wrong but so many games have a MP that's deserted a week after release that seem better suited to it than this or Resi(remember THAT Vs mode!)ever will be.

I've gone on a tangent here, sorry, but my6 point is I know they did a lot of focus group stuff for this one and I'm concerned by some features they outlined with more action and the MP being chief among them. Promising score from OXM, though, and they're usually pretty good with their multiplat reviews.

The first game when playing the second time through you new when and where they would bust out of crawl spaces or vents to attack. From what I read, the Necromorphs will come at you and say Booo!!, more randomly than the first game. Different times and different places I reckon. The result, less repetitiveness.

Just would like to add to what I said earlier. You would think the developer would have had random moments for the Necromorphs to come at you with in the first game. For some people, the first game took you out of the game experience at times. Especially when you knew the scare was coming. But with the bursts of sounds, you still jumped at times anyway. LOL

Well said well said, yes I don't think MP was needed at all and most of these sequels jump on the MP band wagon and 9/10 they fall flat.

I played Dead Space on hard and it was frightening when you ran out of ammo, that was an awesome panic experience.

I think Dead Space 2 will become what Aliens was to Alien, though that might not be a fair comparison but I do feel we are in for more action than horror.

I don't mind more action (as Aliens was a superb sequel) but it has to retain that horror aspect however small and to stay true to it's roots. Even if this game plays well etc the fact is they will have forgotten their roots and missed the point of the Dead Space franchise because Dead Space was a great horror game in an otherwise redundant/poor horror game market.

I agree with you. In these hard economic times. A person may have to stick to what they know from past experience and the reputation of the game and or its publishers. Another thought, look at your collection of games and decide what new game is different from the collection that you have. And for your birthday and Christmas, you can put those you skipped on the list.

This year it got to the point where I needed to decide on facts I mentioned. I also looked at Historical, Modern and Futuristic themes (and sport games if interested). First person and third person included. So if I am a shooter or action adventure fan. I have 3 time periods to stick with and 2 types of player view points. And what ever 2 games were similar with theme and so on. I went with the one I had a good experience with before.

This requires a fair amount of research before the game is released. LOL

I'm getting this day 1 on PS3 but, Still on the fence about which version to get....Collector's, Limited or Standard (Heck I can't even get evidence of what the Limited\Standard versions are) and which has Extraction! Does anyone know for sure what versions come with it? Local Gamestop & Other stores are clueless or just not saying (Hoping more people will buy the Collector's) would be my guess. None I have talked to have outright said "It's only on the Collector's" so I have no idea?!?

Anyone know for sure? I'm up for which ever has Extraction on the disc... Cheaper the better.

Here where i live there is no standard edition for PS3, just Limited and Collector's. Both have Dead Space: Extraction

There's no standard edition currently for ps3. The first Run will be Limited and Collectors Edition. Just like Battlefield BC2 and Medal of Honor were.

Down the line, there will be a standard edition. And that's the one that will not include the game, just a demo.

The easy bit is done then. Now you need to play through it on insane, to unlock the military space suit, then again on insane so you actually get to play while wearing the suit.
This game carried the survival horror crown when RE 5 abandoned it, and I grew up playing RE games. One of the best third party I.p s this gen imo, Darksiders, bioshock + ME are some more.
Day 1 for me, completed the first 5 or 6 times. Quality.

My fellow Sony gamers, after playing the Dead Space 2 demo on none other than my PS3, I have to say that this "awesome sick"! The developer definitely improved on it including the graphics, enemy animation, and the gore factor. Such is the disturbing nature of DS2 that this game is definitely NOT recommended to folks under 15 years of age, including 90% of the 360/XBox Live gamers. Don't forget, only the PS3 CE comes with the previously Wii exclusive Dead Space Extraction with Move compatibility.

A game getting a 9.5, 9.7, 9.2 or whatever is in that range means it's a close as possible to the above, which i would say it is from what i played.

in fact I dare say, I would give the first game a 10/10. It was one of the few games I played 6 times over and didn't have any issues with bugs or anything.

It was the most polished game I had played this gen up until i played uncharted 2 ( I am talking in terms of bugs. ) as for best atmosphere, guns, sound effects etc thats all down to opinion. but in my book dead space has been my favorite game this gen ( you can check my comment history all the way back to when it came out, I still stand by that )

I can't say the same for Dead Space 2 because I have not played it all the way through, but from what I played of the demo there were a few little things I didn't like but it's still very close to what I was hoping for. time will tell.

10/10 simply means the game is prefect and since no game is prefect, but this is one of those games that was as close as it gets so why not give it a 9.5. what is the point having a score system at all if you believe no game will or should ever reach the score. how do we let the dev's know they are doing a good job if when they do something right will still score them low or average. if most average games this gen have been getting between the 7 and 8 mark and this game is a lot better then those games, what is the logical score to give it ? if you give it a 7 or 8 then thats an injustice. all those other games that are getting 7's and 8's should really be getting 5's and 6's if not less.

personally I think there are a lot of games this gen that have hit the 9 mark that I feel didn't quite deserve it, but thats just my opinion. others will totally feel that those games did deserve it, I can accept that. In my book Dead Space 1 was the perfect game for me which is why I would score it so high and even say yes it was a 10/10 game, but again thats just my opinion, you may think differently as i am sure you do. Again I can accept that.

It could be that amongst the sea of very average games getting 8 - 9's this game stands above them. it's not perfect which is why they didn't give it a 10/10, but it's better then a lot of games with a 9 so it's a 9.5.

and in the end if the game is really that good I don't see why it should be scored low just to make sure the writers don't get paid and the game does not get over-hyped. Some games actually deserve to be hyped. in fact dead space was prob one game that should have got more hype then it did.

I have read so many comments from people who are only just now playing DS1 and saying how awesome it is and they can't believe they didn't play it before. compared to the crap EA use to push out before, they took a risk with DS and it actually didn't pay off that well for them, but as a game it deserved a lot more attention and it deserved the scores it got. hype or no hype and I am sure DS2 will be the same.

I've just finished the first game on PS3 and absolutely adored it.

Played the demo for the new game this afternoon and i'm gobsmacked. It looks stunning!

Maybe it's just here in blighty, but I've found EA's choices with the collectors editions really strange. I really want the plasma cutter prop, but it's only available with the 360/PC versions. :/

I was planning on DS2 on PS3, then picking up Move to play Extraction. Instead i've ended up plumping for the 360 version of DS2 and picked up the Wii Extraction cheaply.

Why EA couldn't do a PS3 ltd with the cutter prop for a little bit extra, I really don't know!

HMV has the exclusive on the *collectors edition*, which on 360 & PS3 only .. and adds the soundtrack, a lithograph and the rather spiffy looking plasma cutter prop.

Play.Com has an exclusive PS3 collectors edition, with the lithograph, soundtrack et al - and yeps, the Extraction extra as per the ltd - but without the plasma cutter prop. :/
