EA snubs Xbox with new FIFA ads

EA has skipped any mention of Xbox 360 in its latest run of mainstream FIFA 11 advertising.

i went to the bar yesterday for lunch, its an irish pub, soccer on all the time. and they played a commercial for fifa 11 during one of the games.. i also noticed they had no mention of the xbox..

It's not new or news. Activision does the same thing with Call of Duty. You partner with your larger base and EA has always partnered with Sony for its Fifa ad campaign. Fifa is huge in Europe where sales of the PS3 iteration double that of the XBox 360 version. It's not a conspiracy theory or EA taking sides but fanboys wont care; it's something else to troll and flame over!

When I visited the UK/Ireland I noticed it's all about Sony over there. The 360 was the american-frat boy console for dbags--not flaming, just a general perception I found over there.

In my circle we all own 360s. I don't know a single hardcore (pre PS1) gamer who owns a PS3.

all though I would of agreed with you 3 years ago the PS3 has covered a lot of ground since then. I know hardly anyone with a 360 any more. Every time I meet someone knew they would always own a 360 now all I ever hear is PS3. Last person I knew with a 360 was my ex's brother and even he was planning on trading it in for a PS3.

Most of the people i know had 360. was very popular when halo 3 and gears first came out but in the last year and half most of them either have hacked them to use them for multiplate or have traded in for a PS3. The ear to the ground is that the PS3 is a lot more popular.

Yeah, the 360 is more popular in general in the UK even now but not when it comes to Fifa or PES you tend to find. IDK why but it seems the same this year as well. Was buying our copy of Fifa last night and, roughly, I'd say there were easily twice as many buying PS3 version. It6's odd, it really is, but it's seemingly true.

@Meercat-nothing to do with whether you're a hardcore gamer which console you own, not at all. Lots of people in the UK got 360s(as I did) because they were first out and in my circle most of those who I'd consider more serious gamers own both these days-it's the only reason I have for Fifa selling better on the PS3 here. I certainly would always buy the PS3 version of a footy game because a DS3 is just the right controller for the job in my mind and maybe that's what a lot of other dual console owners think, no? IDK but it's the best guess I have to be honest! Also, playing Fifa online on PS3 is a higher level of competition so maybe that's a draw as well and I do put that down to the EU being Sony territory.

It6 is a weird one but those multis that do best or better on PS3 seem to be those with a long heritage on Sony consoles-like PES,like fifa, like RE, like SF and so on and so forth and this keeps popping up when one of these games is released as a general rule. It's often these games where the gap is either less than you'd expect(seeing as there are more 360 owners)or the PS3 version actually outsells the 360 one. Maybe there's an age thing there as well but I do feel it's probably dual console owners who just associate certain franchises with the Sony brand or with a DS controller making this happen in the UK. But, hey, don't flame me, it's just an observation.

if you watch american sports you'll see halo and call of duty all over the place.. if you watch international sports you'll notice sony all over the place, but then again sony also sponsors their other products such as bravia tv's, cameras etc as well as ps3's.. sometimes you wont even see the ps3 logo just the sony logo..

I remember seeing AC1 adds saying only PS3 at the end and Ive seen the same for 360 over the years.

If sony or MS want to advertise a 3rd party game they will not include a competitors name in the add.

If I was a 3rd party making a multiplat tho I would show every possible version to try and sell as many as possible. But it makes sense for sony or MS to want their system associated with certain games in certain areas.

I remember seeing madden adds saying only PS3 at the end, and ones saying on xbox 360 starting at 199 at the end. Ive also seen a Fifa add just now on ESPN in the US taht said only ea at the end.

xbox 360 is popular in usa, soccer is not popular in the usa, so makes sense not to bother advertising on xbox360. PS is only just moving from 2nd gear to 3rd gear where as xbox is moving down from 4th gear to 3rd gear.

Sony knows and understands this so they financed, sponsored this commercial and If I was Sony I would do whatever to make sure you bought this game on a Sony system.

The name of the sport is "football" which, if we're honest makes a hell of a lot more sense than the US version where using your feet is just a tiny part of the game, no? Soccer is just an abbreviation of the word "association" which is a prefix football got once it had all it's rules put in place and the FA was formed. The yanks use it to avoid confusion while the rest of the world sighs and carries on ignoring Gridiron.

Fifa sells best on PS anyway so, yeah, trying to maximise that is a no brainer. But Football isn't just huge in Europe it's huge everywhere while games like American Football, Basketball and especially Baseball are mainly popular in NA with little pockets of interest around the world. If any one team sport is the world's game you'll find it's Football which verges on religion in practically every nation there is. Just cos we don't want to play rounders in pyjamas doesn't mean it's right to belittle The Beautiful Game. Try asking a Brazilian or Argentinian or Uruguayan what their sport is. Try asking in the middle East, Japan or Africa. The answer will not be US Football or Baseball I tell you that.

It's the same in New Zealand as well, all my mates have moved over to PS3 from xbox 360. I have a few South African live, PSN and IRL mates and they say it's the same there as well. In addition, some South African stores no longer sell the xbox 360 because of the reliability issues.

I noticed the ads on TV here in UK have got FIFA 11 and PS3 together and no mention of XBOX 360. Makes a change, It's normally the XBOX 360 in multi-plat game ads, not PS3.

This isn't actually a surprise, the PS3 is a huge force in Europe and naturally so is FIFA. It's smarter for them to leave the 360 logo off, who's owners will buy it anyway, and present a strong pro-PS3 front than it is to have them both on.
