LittleBigPlanet 2 First-Person Shooter Is Kind Of Ridiculous

You’re not really supposed to capture video from the LittleBigPlanet 2 beta. But we seriously doubt Sony are going to lock-down YouTube user TheFinalBurst’s uploads. His Micro Machine, Pac-Man and Air Hockey creations [we've embedded them after the jump - Ed] are absolutely stunning. But the first-person shooter concept is what grabbed our attention. We’re not quite sure how he’s pulled it off, even with LBP2’s new tools.

I was going to post this but was afraid that since it was from a private beta that it wouldn't be right.

There is a compilation video showing FPS, RPG, Dualstick shooter, etc. I wish I remembered it.

Of course, the mechanic is awesome, but you can see how it's limited by 2D scrolling. I wonder however if someone can mimic 3D with a 2D environment like in those Doom games. People don't even have to make shooters with side scrolling per se. Imagine a mini-game that rewards killing pop-up enemies, etc. (Like Duck Hunt)

This was done within a week or two. Imagine a full game with all the tools.

This is why LBP2 is my GOTY choice. I really hope I can get into the beta.

yeah but the iron sights and fluid movement really amaze the hell out of me. I am hoping you can jump in and out of this camera modes. You could make something that uses different perspectives like Master Blaster or Zelda II did. Imagine playing a 2D shooter then getting into a turret and going into 1st person mode....that would blow me away. And this is the beta.

What is it about sony that attract such high caliber talent.. Sony wouldnt have recovered from the 360 effect if not for their dilligence and high quality catalogue of studios at their disposal.. This game alone is vindication for the ps3.... God bless sony.

@Alpha I think you'll be able to imitate a 3D environment (in the way you describe) with the holographic material.

On topic though. The LBP fps is really simple. It's in LBP1 (where he uses sackboy, a jetpack and countless sensors to control the position of the gun) the bullets that are emitted each contain magnetic keys, on every enemy/explosive barrel magnetic switches are placed.

So bullets = keys
Targets (enemies, barriels) = switches

When a key is detected by a switch the object reacts (barrel explodes, enemy dissolves).

It's actually very simple. In LBP1 the manner in which he gets the gun to move isn't ideal, but in LBP2 it's all very easily achieved. Anyone will be able to create levels like this within an extremely short period of time.

actually this is the normal cam and is not doing anything special.Its a gun with a control seat attached.moving left and right and up and down.There is no first person cam,there is a third person over the shoulder cam.But I think the way the 3D spaceship one was made would work much better to make a FPS.

You can make a full game by sewing levels together. You can also make your own cutscenes!

So a full 8-10 hour game complete with a story is possible in LBP 2 :)

Its possible to create this type of level in lbp1. Its been done already. Movers and the new cameras make it much easier though. It wont be possible to create a fully working first person shooter, but simple up/ down, left/right gallery shooters are possible.

First of all, SC2 has done this, and has done it better, with freedom to move through the environment. But secondly, you know what? As cool as a concept that it is, nobody plays the SC2 map, and nobody will play this. The shooter genre developed for a reason. We don't base all our current shooters on the old Mario engine because we know we can do something better than being limited to two dimensions and awkward control. If you fanboys want to hype a shooter, go ahead and hype Killzone 3, but this is simply laughable.
