where is the new ip?all this hype for another bioshock game

Omega45023d ago

Indeed what a lie that was.

But what is strange is its not called Bioshock 3, so maybe they see it as a new IP.

Mmmkay5022d ago

just like assassins creed brotherhood is a new ip, right?

AndrewRyan5022d ago

Completely different world. Check.
Completely different characters. Check.
Completely different story. Check.
Completely different game. Check.
Different title. Not check.

The only thing that is missing is a new title. If this was called Infinite or something, you people would immediately say OH LOOK A NEW IP YAY.

zeeshan5022d ago

Ok, I WANT this game right now. I LOVE Bioshock games and even though, many people don't want to see a new Bioshock games, it's a gteat news to Bioshock fans like myself. CAN'T WAIT!

SilentNegotiator5023d ago (Edited 5023d ago )

Anyone else not able to get the trailer to load?

They should have saved "Infinite" for the inevitable Bioshock in Space.

I think this looks really cool. I love the steampunk that is Bioshock. Them taking it to the sky is a fresh way of keeping the same style, but adding new locations and stories.I guess it is safe to say the Bioshock is a namesake now, like Final Fantasy. Hey we all have to start everywhere. I am interesting to see what other steampunk themes and eras they plan to explore in the future. I also think that Bioshock 2 isn't their main focus. I would assume that every Bioshock game will be set in a new locale with new everything, from here on out. I'll keep my ear on this one. Hyped up or not, the Bioshock Universe is really interesting and I am glad it is being creatively expanded, instead of milked.

tinybigman5023d ago

that looked pretty interesting. taking it to the skies is very different and i can see/feel that the tension is gonna be high in this game for fear of falling out of this city. i think i'll keep myself updated on this one to see what else they are going to do with it.

TheLastGuardian5022d ago

We don't know anything yet but the setting. Are you just mad because Andrew Ryan won't be in it?

MisterNiwa5022d ago

We know the story, you play an Agent that is going to Columbia to rescue Elizabeth, a Woman that was kept in Columbia since she was a child.

We know the setting, 1912, Columbia, a city in the sky with an artificial summer-day look.

Baka-akaB5023d ago

I smell this being actually a new ip that 2k decided to tie instead to bioshock for sales

El_Colombiano5022d ago

No no the art style is FAR too similar to Bishock's to be a new I.P. THAT would confuse people.

jack_burt0n5023d ago

The interview with levine he stated that its bioshock in namesake like final fantasy is.

Its core gameplay mechanics only.

deafwing5023d ago (Edited 5023d ago )

... in the past ... but they are really feeding off the previous one with this one. Also I guess after they had stuffed gamers underwater for so long they figured

..."hey we'll throw the same look and feel at gamers cuz they dont' know any better and put them up in the skies."

I seriously hope the gameplay makes up for this attitude :/ cuz I'm getting this

"... we wanted this in the last game but we were pressed for time" kind a feel from the video.

callahan095023d ago

Irrational Games didn't even make the last Bioshock game. This game and Bioshock 2 have basically nothing in common except name. Ken Levine / Irrational Games did not design, produce, or develop Bioshock 2. THIS is the true sequel to Bioshock (I liked Bioshock 2 but in a "more of the same" kind of way, it was fun and all but definitely just kind of a continuation of Bioshock, not anything groundbreaking... I think this game is going to be a whole new experience and not just feel like more levels in the same game).

deafwing5022d ago

they are just using the same art direction and still to my point .. biting off the style from the previous game?

lightningsax5022d ago (Edited 5022d ago )

Dude, Mario Galaxy was just Mario in space with the same look and feel. Final Fantasy VI was just Final Fantasy IV with a few different rules, better graphics, and a new story. Uncharted 2 was an improvement on Uncharted. Bioshock was a new iteration on System Shock 2. So what?

Okay, I get the Bioshock 2 anger. That was more an expansion than a sequel. This sure doesn't look like it. Now, if this game consists of a first-person perspective with Big Somethings, plasmids, and throwing electric stuff into water, then yes, you're in the right, but this doesn't look that way from what I've seen.

Just remember that some of the best and most innovative titles have been some sort of sequel. Actually, I'd say the best was a prequel - Shadow of the Colossus.

xJxdOggyStYLe5023d ago

wowowowowowo!! day 1 amazing! i love the bioshock series!

SaberEdge5022d ago

Me too. Bioshock is still one of the best games I have played this generation. Bioshock Infinite will be a day 1 purchase.

Kurt Russell5022d ago

If I could pre-order now I would - Great games that smack of atmosphere!

ProjectVulcan5022d ago (Edited 5022d ago )

Looks like 2K might have just pulled the old Activision Call of Duty dev switch. The main developer lays down the benchmark and the secondary throws out another game along the same lines. This could really be a fantastic game and if it sells well 2K marin will probably knock out the sequel to this one in the same setting like they did with bioshock 2.

I liked bioshock 2 but to be frank it missed that sense of wonder for obvious reasons the first provided with this unexplored, unfamiliar, mysterious underwater city. I think we have a vague idea of the tone this game will take but im really anticipating a whole new setting full of amazing sights. Ken Levine is working on this bioshock, if its not superb, i will be quite surprised.

TheLastGuardian5022d ago

I'm very excited! It's going to be a long wait for this game. I thought that was andrew ryan listening to the record player in the trailer but that can't be if it's set in 1912(100 years before the games release). Ken Levine stated it is just a spiritual succesor but I hope it has tons of similarities to the first Bioshock. Can't wait to hear more info.

likedamaster5022d ago (Edited 5022d ago )

Ken Levine is at the helm, and Bioshock in title? Sold. Nuf said.

Edit: From what I hear(GWJ podcast), they will use NO assets from Bioshock 1-2 but will indeed have all new assets.

Mucudadada5023d ago

Bah, I wanted a new IP. I loved, loved Bioshock, but felt it was a complete game not in need of a sequel. I failed to even play the second. Buuut, this one is in a new city, so it may warrant a purchase. I jut need more info.

Cold 20005023d ago

Same as you, I think Bioshock 2 was unnecessary...now we got a third one.

Rich16315023d ago

It is different though, it is just Bioshock in name but a whole new character, story, and setting. Plus it is being made by Irrational, they made Bioshock 1 not 2.

Merivigian5023d ago

I agree, this has nothing to do with Rapture or anything.

19425023d ago (Edited 5023d ago )

actually it looks like bioshoock just in the sky instead of the ocean. when you read the synopsis it even sounds like the bioshock story. the character doesn't matter since they don't talk or even have faces. this is just them trying to cast in on the bioshock name and it is too bad bioshock used to really something good but is now ending up like every other shooter(rehashing the same thing over and over).

-the big daddy is sent to save the girl(in infinity it is a regular guy)

-the girl and the big daddy have a connection because of the girls powers and have a close relationship

-they are trying to escape a collapsing city

it is all the same just in the sky.

SoSLy5023d ago

I dont think Bioshock in the Sky is very "bioshock" to me. Wheres the creepyness and the atmosphere of the game.

tplarkin75022d ago

I played Bioshock 1 and 2 which were both amazing. But, the major complaint from many people was that the atmosphere was too dark.

Besides, the floating buildings looked really cool. I thought the hot-air baloons were hilarious and creative.

Kolma5023d ago

new game but using an old IP to make sure it stays afloat?
long as it's bioshock related i am excited for it

MrLife5023d ago

WAIT WAIT is this BioShock 3????

Top 10 Rarest Xbox 360 Games That Are Worth a Fortune

Twinfinite: “War may never change, but the prices of rare games do!”

"And lastly, famous Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling helped to create the action-RPG’s setting. What’s really fascinating, though, is that the game was partially financed by taxpayers from Rhode Island (which allegedly lost the state millions of dollars). Yikes!"

1. Now infamous Schilling
2. No allegedly, it did. And they couldn't pay it back.
3. What really lost the money wasn't the SP release but the MMO they were working on. This was supposed to be an introduction into the MMO world.

Soy291d ago

I hate counting limited editions for these lists. I mean, they're made to be rare and expensive. It's far more interesting to hear about the NCAAs (even if most people know that one already) and the El Chavos than some massive hit that came with a $200 statue at retail.

gamerz291d ago

Me too. Here's the best I can do:

El Chavo Kart $90.14
NCAA Football 14 $87.72
Spiderman: Edge of Time $75.94
Spiderman Web of Shadows $75.09
Spiderman: Shattered Dimensions $67.76

Christopher291d ago

Wow, El Chavo Kart is not at all what I expected by the name. 100% looks like a Sackboy Kart game.

Soy290d ago

It's so odd that so many Spider-Man games are seemingly given lower print runs, even if they're not the best games.

jznrpg291d ago (Edited 291d ago )

Most Xbox games don’t hold as much value compared to other systems. Kameo, Blue Dragon, Last Remnant , and a handful or 2 of other games that I kept.

Fallout 3 and Bioshock Infinite are the rarest games of all time.

8 Best Games Set In A Multiverse

One of the biggest TV and movie tropes in the last decade has been the multiverse, the idea of exploring multiple dimensions to uncover alternate versions of existing ideas. From both a business and creative perspective, it makes sense why established franchises are shaking things up in this way.

However, there aren't many video games latching on to this trend, as rendering multiple worlds in real-time is a difficult feat and the medium is relatively young in comparison to its contemporaries, making crossover opportunities more difficult. Still, there are a few great titles that manage enough to overcome these challenges, and here are some of the best examples.

While I love someone mentioning Planescape, not really multiverse. Planes and dimensions, yes. But, they are typically their own locations and are very rarely tied to another 'verse' let alone another plane. The only things that are directly tied are the ethereal and material planes. Otherwise, they are dimensions created of their own design and goals by the creator/owner and not comprised of 'their own version of another dimension'.
