Music was good, cartoons were awesome, Arcades were relevent. The only rivalry was sega & nintendo and it was more of a playful rivalry if anything. It was pure gaming bliss back then.

Right now, if something were to happen and I had the option of only owning one console and one game for the rest of my life, i'd pick the snes and super mario world without any hesitation.

yea, any list that doesn't have OOT at least in the top 10 is pretty much a failure. Granted, it's all opinion but to not recognize the significance of the game is pretty ignorant. You don't even have to enjoy the game to understand what it did for gaming in general.

I think gamers who weren't around or are too young to remember when OOT was first released will never understand the impact that it had on gaming. The transition that Zelda made from 2d to 3d was beyond anyones imagination, not to mention it introduced the gaming world to "Z targeting." It really was a total mindf**k and one of the few times in gaming (i started gaming on an intellivision) that I was in shock at what I was playing. Definitely one of the best games of all time and it's a testament to Nintendo's quality standards and foresight by how well it still holds up.

I actually like this list. For once someone took the time and looked at games throughout history and not just the last 15 years. While I agree that OoT may be a little low it certainly doesn't deserve to be in the top ten. I still think that Link to the Past is the best Zelda and I have no problem with it being No 1. There are some classic games there that I'm sure most of you spent waaaay more time playing than OoT so don't dismiss this list because your favorite game isn't on in the top spot. Everyone one of the games in the top 10 I've spent countless hours playing and when I think back on gaming these are the games I think of.

i'm going to be the pariah and say that this is a great list.

compared to the truly great games in history, your god of war, halo or gta are shit (comparatively speaking) or at least certainly not top 100 material. this is a good list made by somebody with a sense of gaming history, they didn't just add new games they played last week and consider them the best ever the way most sites do.

if we're still talking about halo or gow 10 years from now, then they deserve to be on the list. as of right now they're too new to be considered any more than "good games".

edit@jdp- i noticed that the thing all the games had in common was gameplay gameplay gameplay. these are games that anyone can still pick up and immediately have fun with, now or 10 years from now, you simply can't say that about most modern stuff.

His point was regarding the nostalgia people hold for the old cars, not the increased libido people get as a side-effect. And he's right about that. Just because YOU aren't old enough to have/remember playing the original Zelda when it was first released doesn't mean the same for everyone else. Or the original FF (still would like to see them make a prequel to that based on the Light Warriors talked about in game and their story).

For PC games I saw:

Warcraft 1, Warcraft 2, Warcraft 3, Civilization, Oregon Trail, Starcraft, Diablo, and Doom.

There were also about 10 arcade games, and a couple of Gameboy games. So I don't think a "console games" title works too well.

First of all, I will say that I am a Nintendo loyalist. I'd hate to call myself a fanboy, although I probably am, but I try to be objective. I own an Xbox, Wii, PS2 and my friend owns a PS3 which I play. That being said, this list is the stupidest shit I've ever seen.

Aside from nitpicking specific picks, like OoT @ 92, it would have been nice to know the criterion for which this window licker made his picks. If it was ground breaking games, then Doom should be higher (actually it probably should be wolfenstein, but that is another discussion) as well as Donkey Kong and others. Upon reading the list, it is quite clear that this moron simply stacked up all the games he ever owned, knocked them over and listed the games in the order that he picked them up.

If I were to write a list of best games ever, I would limit it to 10 and it would definitely include: Half Life 2, God of War 2, Super Mario World, Zelda: Link to the Past, Doom among others.

As much of a nostalgic fan as I am, Nintendo is not the only developer to ever put out good games.I didn't count how many, but probably 70-75% of those games were from nintendo-n64.

I was kind of expecting Half Life or Half Life 2 to be on there; as I was Crash Bandicoot, Banjo Kazooie and or Mario 64. But whatever, it's a good, intelligent list; no pandering to all the big, flashy, superficial games that people ignorantly give too much credit. This article respects the foundations of gaming.

Everyone bashing them for not having current games should check the source.

What they SHOULD be mocked and ridiculed for is having such a warped sense of reality and thinking that Duck Tales is the 13th best game of all time, even given the range of only "classic" systems. That's just freaking ridiculous. Most legitimate sites have LoZ: OoT as one of the top 3 games ever, if not the #1. 92? Are you high?

LttP is my favorite game of all time personally, but everyone has their own favorite Zelda. Ocarina of Time at #92 is just stupid though lol...I understand Twilight Princess being there or something, but OoT should be way up there.

Also between Super Metroid and Castlevania, those 2 games shouldn't be so closely ranked together. SOTN is practically Super Metroid with RPG elements. Both soundtracks were good for its time as well. SOTN has one of the best soundtracks in game history, while Super Metroid's opening theme is my favorite ever.

I do like the fact that he credits the old games, but there's old games that just make a skeleton of a better game. Like he has Final Fantasy as one of the highest ranked FF. Yes FF set the blueprint, but there's games that expand on it. Maybe this list should've been more about influence than a top 100 best list.

I'm pretty sure Metal Gear Solid, GTA San Andreas, and Dues Ex can be considered some of the greatest games of all time, but this is Old Wizard so I pretty much expected the list to be as it is.

I understand that people want to give credit to the pioneers and whatnot, but I'm sick and tired of seeing games like Pac-Man and Legend of Zelda being called better games than masterpieces like Ocarina of Time, Bioshock and Half-Life. Good games for their time, but it simply can't be argued that those older games are better. It's like saying a Charlie Chaplin film is better than Citizen Kane or Shawshank Redemption.

It's like people are trying to prove something by claiming that those older games are the best and can't ever be topped. It's ridiculous, really.

Awful list, top to bottom. I've never heard of that site, and I probably won't be going back.

they are great I've played a lot of these games but that doesn't mean these games are better than the games of today. Metal Gear Solid 4 and God of War III along with Super Mario Galaxy and Halo at least deserve to be there!
