Microsoft Confirms Kinect Bundles, New $199 Xbox 360

Well, none of this will come as a big surprise here, but it's always nice to hear it straight from an official source. Microsoft has confirmed that the retail price of the new Xbox 360 is, in fact $199 -- just as we suspected given the numerous retail outlets pricing it as such.

jaredhart5083d ago

$199 might make it a tough buy for the casual gamer.

aviator1895083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

They're talking about replacing the current Arcade 360 that isn't being replenished anymore due to the new Xbox 360 S which is $299 because that one is replacing the Elite with its 250 GB HDD. The author of the article, who did a Q&A with a M$ rep, says that a new Arcade 360 S will be coming this fall to replace the current Arcade that will be priced the same $199. I really don't think that it is "rather expensive" for the casual gamer at all. The other prices listed at the end of the article list the price of an Arcade 360 S/Kinect bundle and an Elite 360 S/Kinect bundle.

Redgehammer5083d ago

that translates to Kinect for a 100 bucks when bundled, that's not to bad.

NewShadow1015083d ago

just wondering how i would go about transferring everything from my xbox to the new xbox. but the thing is im trading in my xbox FOR the new one so can i just put everything on a flash drive including my gamer tag?

Rainstorm815083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

So Kinect must be priced at 100$ for any of this to make sense or is it more beneficial to get the bundle?

But 200$ for the Xbox 360 S is quiet a deal, MS isnt dumb i kknow about 3 or 4 360 owners who plan to buy it at 300$ so tons of 360 owners will replace thier xboxes at 200$

EDIT: and we all know Xbox owner have no problem buying a new Xbox......I own an xbox already and i kinda want it....but im not getting it.

Raptura5083d ago

@NewShadow101

I got the new Xbox 360 the other day and I used an external hard drive and a USB stick and transferred all my content including my gamertag. Copying all the content and transferring it to the new Xbox is easy and relatively quick.

RageAgainstTheMShine5082d ago (Edited 5082d ago )

$300 360 + $200 Kinect = $500

$500 =

$200 Wii with 2 Wii Sports game +
$50 Wiimote with MPlus +
$80 2 Wii games +
$130 PlaySation Move Sports Champion bundle with Navigation controller +
$40 PS Move game.
(I already own a PS3)

$500 For two systems Wii and PS3 FTW!

psycho3605082d ago (Edited 5082d ago )

@ghinasky

No you'd rather be trolling in the news about 360 and Kinect prices.

DO YOU EVEN KNOW THE PRICE OF KINECT? HOW IS IT 200$?

ALSO

You're comparing already having a ps3 + wii + move to a full 360/Kinect kit. HOw much of a brain do you have?

So if somebody already owns a 360 then? 100$ vs 500$? God help us from these fanboys.

"i don't think"

there's your problem.

gamer20105083d ago

It's a great price. I think a lot of people that want to get into high def gaming will find that a nice price point for the new Xbox 360 S.

Tricksy5083d ago

Thats funny... well convince urself if you need to, in order to enjoy your cheap gaming experience.

SantistaUSA5083d ago

@Tricksy

Dude grow up, xbox360 and ps3 are both HD, both look great on my Samsung 46" LCD. :D

evrfighter5083d ago

actually 360 and ps3 are both sub HD

jaredhart5083d ago

I thought $199 was for Kinect. My bad.

Parapraxis5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

beardpapa5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

is this a $199 new xbox with the harddrive? If it is, I'm getting myself a new xbox! Been wanting to replace mine with a new one w/ hdmi, wifi, and bigger hd for a long long time.

I'm under the assumption the new 360s come standard with the hd so... I'm keeping my hopes up. =D

qface645083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

i don't think the 199 360 doesn't have a hard drive since the 199 version is the new arcade

dragunrising5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

If Microsoft is smart they will mandate hard drives on all future 360s. They should include 120 GB hard drives...or at the very least 60 GB. I am going to assume that wifi will be excluded. They have to differentiate the $200 model enough so that the premium model is seen as a value relative to the extra features included. For $200 I would buy the model I described. I don't need wifi as my router is in my entertainment setup. Then again, I have a perfectly good Jasper 360...

MegaPowa5083d ago

What? that's a great deal imo

Sheikh Yerbouti5083d ago

The Wii is still cheaper with a wide selection of hundreds of games. There are only 15 for the XBox.

If this is true, and Kinect is at or over $100, Sony has nothing to worry about.

gynecologistcobra5083d ago

$250 was an easy buy for the casual gamer on the Wii- why would $200 make it more difficult?

sid4gamerfreak5083d ago

Good deal by microsoft expected worse...

ActionBastard5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

FAIL. There is no way that is not FAIL.

EDIT: At first reading, I thought Kinect was $200. A $199 360 is nothing new.

wAtdaFck5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

it got me too

gynecologistcobra5083d ago

Hey, you're a clever guy on the internet, and using FAIL as a sentence is both original and communicative.

RBlaze5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

... We will probably be looking at £150 to £199! MS may suffer for that (New buyers will need to buy the Xbox too.. and £350 - £400 for an Xmas present is very steep!)

EDIT!! I'll still be picking it up though!!

FragMnTagM5083d ago

for a XBOX 360 S that is replacing the current arcade unit right? Of course you don't judging by your stupid comment.

RBlaze5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

Suggests a $399 for an elite (with Kinect). And as the slims can't use memory cards, it is reasonable to suggest that the arcade will require an extra memory purchase (be it a usb drive or a hd). So as the standard policy for UK pricing (for everything, not just consoles) is to take the US price and change the dollar sign to a pound, what I have suggested is pretty viable.

Do some research before you start throwing your virtual weight around.. Moreover.. go get an education...

darkequitus5083d ago

Why would MS go back 5 years and sell the Xbox wihtout a memory solution? For one, with a memory solution your can even do anything now considering NXE needing 128MB and who know for Kinect. I can't see a memory solution being an extra purchase.

Sheikh Yerbouti5083d ago

I don't think Kinect games need a hard drive from what I've seen. Although with movies and music considered, they might. MS should do it after all.

darkequitus5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

I do mean the games, I mean the Kinect specific user interface + NXE. All I am saying it is dumb if MS do not provide some sort of storage even if it is internal or a low capacity flashdrive. The firmware flash on the 360s is only 16mb. That has not change with the 360 S, hence all NXE 360s had to have storage (i.e. the storage special offer)

RBlaze5083d ago

Yeah I know what you mean mate.
It seems crazy that they would release a version of the Slim without a hd.. But I haven't yet heard about another hd (only the 250). So I'm not sure whether a hd will be included! I hope it does include a reasonable memory... 20 gb has been ok for me up til now anyway!!

darkequitus5083d ago (Edited 5083d ago )

Even 60GB would be good. I struggle to fill my 120GB (mostly filled with install I would never use again) I have the new 360 S on trade-in. I can't see myself filling that up unless I went out of my way to do so. Hey, my 60GB PS3 Phat is not even half full.

akaFullMetal5083d ago

so a new arcade is coming, but no price drop. Are they including wifi in it as well?? and a hard drive this time???

kissmeimgreek5083d ago

im pretty sure its the exact same thing except with a 120 gb HDD. taking features out would be stupid.

akaFullMetal5083d ago

if it has a hard drive, then this seems very promising.

Chris3995083d ago

Even a tiny one. If it does, then that's good news. If it doesn't, MS really have learnt nothing this gen.

aviator1895083d ago

Here's to hoping that they at least put in a 20 GB HDD in there. It's complete B$ if they don't include one with the Arcade 360 S this fall.

gynecologistcobra5083d ago

Yes. Just like the newest arcades had 256MB built in.

New and improved ASUS ROG Ally X battery life is just what it needs to compete with the Steam Deck

Yet another leak for the ASUS ROG Ally X points towards as much as 8 hours of battery, but how does that compare to the competition?

Vits2d ago

Honestly, I really like this updated version. But it doesn't solve the biggest flaw that the original had for me: the Z1 Extreme APU. Yes, it's an extremely powerful part, but it is not part of AMD's Adrenalin driver update program, so it's dependent on Asus for driver updates. And unfortunately, Asus doesn't have a stellar record of support for their devices.

Goodguy012d ago

Up to 8 hours basically just means the least demanding games. AAA gaming at highest wattage would probably be about 2-3 hours which is good compared to just about 1 hour with the current ally. The OLED Deck can do about 2-3hrs.

Killa7812h ago

Too bad Asus are all awful company.

PRIMORDUS8h ago

They used to be the best when it comes to motherboards, now I will never buy anything from them again.

Firebird36010h ago

8 hrs yea right. Running tetris?

Skuletor8h ago

Only after setting the screen brightness to the lowest level, of course.

Asuka9h ago

Nope. The only improvements I want to hear is better customer support. Otherwise, I can't be bothered.

N64: Recompiled — Creating Native PC Ports Is A Godsend For Game Preservation

"In a time when companies don't care about preserving games, I have high respect for the creators of projects like N64: Recompiled." - Hanzala from eXputer.

gold_drake1d 11h ago

it is, i might be finally able to play Snowboard kids 1 full screen ha.

purple10114h ago

il beat you to the ski-lift,

framerate on snowboard kids was shocking, do you remember./?

talking of shocking framerate and kart racers style games,
Sony had a gem on ps3, with 'Modnation Racers' but again, framerate was so terrible, still fun though, indeed, when is drifting sideways not fun, the answer is never. we have not seen enough of that game, technically some people made race tracks/games in dreams and little big planet etc, but its just not the same,!!! grrrrr

morning rant over.

here, relive some ,memories. https://www.youtube.com/wat...

itBourne11h ago

The load time on ModNation where also excruciatingly long... But man oh man I wish that game took off more, so much fun! Could turn off garbage rubber banding, I had karts with 100's of stickers to design some crazy cool stuff, custom tracks. Fantastic undeappreciated game

gold_drake7h ago

SK1 had a fairly good framerate. sk2 maybe not so much ha

Redgrave7h ago

Some food for thought:

Would you donate your physical copy of a really rare/expensive cartridge (Conkers's BFD, Bomberman 64 Second Attack, Ogre Battle 64, the two Castlevania titles, etc) to those managing this project for the greater good of getting them preserved online for all to experience at some point?

UltimateOwnage7h ago

As long as it meant they never took money from Patreon and invited a DMCA takedown / lawsuit by Nintendo to take it all away. After seeing the whole debacle with Yuzu I now question how long any of these teams can maintain game preservation efforts through emulator development, or otherwise.

franwex4h ago

I mean. They may borrow them…

Profchaos1h ago

Is it realistically needed though I would not personally give anyone my old carts for games that are already persevered and easily available online

Inverno7h ago

The snippet of ray tracing at the end of the og trailer was low-key amazing. I found out thanks to Nerrel who also made a texture pack for MM, and i can't wait to see how much more great this game will be in the near future. With model swaps, ray tracing, retextures, and a more quicker process than decompilation, it's gonna bring new life to N64 games.

Profchaos1h ago

There might need to be a bit of clarification recompilation is not the same as decompilation.

This is basically a container to excite the rom within but allows for all sorts of beat additions and tricks like new lighting effects such as ray tracing to be added.

But decompilation would ultimately be king as it allows for a widespread porting capabilities and uses the assets from games to build a native install for PC or whatever the target system is e.g Mario 64 for PC or sonic mania for psvita / wii
