360 Outsells PS3 in June, Lags Behind Wii

According to June NPD figures, Microsoft sold nearly 100,000 more Xbox 360s than Sony sold PlayStation 3s, but both consoles' sales still lag far behind the money-printing Nintendo Wii.

clearance sales could help Sony stay close untill the middle of next month. We'll see if the bargon shoppers have the numbers(like thinking launch spikes are sales trends) and if the price of PS3 was the real problem or if its the games or if popular opinion shifted out of Sony's favor the ratio is key with these factors.

If 360 sold 100k more than PS3 in a month that means PS3 is out sold by around 25k a week. I think it will have close to 3 weeks of clearnce sales at the end of this month, lets say PS3 beats the 360 by the sam 5k amount for two more weeks; the upcoming stats and the one for the end of the month thats 15k and this is assuming the volume of bargon shoppers is as great when the clearence first started. The volume could be looked at as a launch type of spike at first.

I'm waiting on the July numbers as well but I do kind of wonder just how much improvement we'll see. I'm pretty sure the PS3 will sell 150k+ but I'm still uncertain that it will actually outsell the 360. I know there have been various reports of it being sold out, but the 360 seems to have picked up in sales last month too. I do think the PS3 will outsell the 360 for the holidays if it sees another price drop & will be outselling the 360 on a regular basis by holiday 08... but for the time being, it's still kind of pricey and a lot of people are content holding on to their ps2's for another year.

you DO know that the PS 3 "clearance sell" is just to get rid of 60 GB PS 3's, right? By the holiday, there will only be 1 SKU, and it will cost $600 bones (that's alot, people. Its almost a given (I could be wrong... on second thought, no, I think not), just look at the stellar games coming out. Actually you're wrong there on a few accounts. Number one, the one sku will not cost $600. The $600 sku now includes a bundle, it has already been hinted that further details will be released for the Christmas plans... meaning that further announcements are to come but most obviously there will be a non-bundle sku.

Secondly, Halo 3 is widely antcipated but the PS3 has games coming out that are more widely anticipated than Bioshock and Mass Effect. Just looking at this site you'll see that the PS3 games are more popular. Any website you visit and there is more buzz around Heavenly Sword, Lair, Ratchet & Clank: TOD, Little Big Planet, Uncharted, Haze & UT3 than most of the 360 titles. When it comes to the games, the PS3 has the win easily... it's only obstacle is price.

The 80GB model will take up the same price as the 60GB model in the US if the 60GB model sells out quickly (They have enough stock to last until Christmas at their current sales rate). The European bundle will last till Christmas. The 80GB model is by then introduced and will be the same price as the 60GB was originally unless there's a price drop over here in Europe.

Then the Europeans are apparantely going to be given a 120GB model next year, which will enter the US market a bit later in mid-2008 I think.

The 360 sales figures won't go back up if they drop substantially because that shows that people have bought a 360 and have moved onto one of the other consoles. You can't sell something at the same rate forever. The PS3 will catch up and overtake it's just a case of when and what MS will do to keep their overall sales higher, first of all they need to find a way to MAKE MONEY and dropping the price will only make that worse.

June was great and all and yes I was expecting the 360 to outsell the PS3 in June. With the game show at E3 from Sony and the price drop I'm sure it'll be a closer thing this month.

The PS3 monthly sales will be above the 360 sales come Christmas because loads of people will have bought a 360. The 360 will have been out for 2 years by December so the PS3 will be the next big thing to get for a lot of people. Don't get me wrong a lot of people will be buying the 360 and Wii as well, it's just that the PS3 is the newest of the three when you consider it wasn't officially available everywhere till the European release date of late-March.

I don't think the PS3 will have a higher total sales stat than that of the 360 by the end of this year. Maybe mid to late 2008 the PS3 will overtake it, but not as soon as the end of this year. Nah I don't think so.

Well first: there was a 500 dollar PS3 already at launch. Basically there is already no price drop. The entry level @ launch was 500 dollars, it's the same now. And the games look the same although you get more for your 500 dollars.

Second. As far as I know, the 80 GB PS3 will be sold @ 600 dollar. They only sell out the old 60 GB PS3 for 500 dollars.

and I think Microsoft is going to drop the price of the 360 at the same time to boost sales of the console. It is my understanding that all future Xbox 360's will have the new 65nm chipset(which runs much cooler) larger heat sinks and a upgraded hitachi DVD player(which runs quieter and doesn't scratch disc) will be installed. I'll buy that machine for $299 with a 3 year warranty over the Wii and PS3. Especially with the library of good games that the 360 has. I do not fear the red ring of death because I've been there with the PS2, I'm on my fourth PS2 now. Had to pay for each one too. I'm going to buy the PS3 when the price drops to $399. But If Kaz Hirai has anything to do with it that might not happen for a long time. See video below.
