Haha clicking that reminded me I haven't checked my facebook in a LONG time lmao. Looks great, I always laugh at soccer games because they show you what it looks like at field level. Than you get the game and all you ever see is above the action

edit: Hey Europeans when does the world cup start again? June 11th or something? I know ya'll love soccer, I don't normally but the world cup is epic. I hope there are more Zidane like headbutts haha.

CYBERSNAKE5096d ago

Yeah starts June 11, but can you please call it football.
I really don't understand where 'soccer' came from.

BigPenguin5096d ago (Edited 5096d ago )

Here is an idea, read a fucking book.

For those who get all irked about the word 'soccer'....like its some ignorant American thing that came out of nowhere....Maybe educate yourself slightly.

Even in Afrikaans it is called sokker. The U.S., Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa all traditionally used the word Soccer. The switch to calling it football is rather recent.
In a lot of these places, Football has traditionally meant Rugby. Like in Ireland, "football" or "footballer" can mean association football, Gaelic football, or rugby union. In New Zealand, the word football also is most commonly meant as rugby union.

Its the entire reason American football is called what it is instead of something like handegg, because it is a rugby clone. Just because once again Europe decided to be contrary against what was already established (fuck you Brittan, we invented a the car, we set the standard about drive on the right and sit left in the car, and you come along and make your own standards just to be contrary dicks) does not mean they are correct.

EDIT: Already got the world cup edition, I hate that they have managed to get me to buy 2 FIFA games in less then a year (T-T) But I will keep on doing it.

BigPenguin

"U.S., Canada, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa"

And what do the rest of the world call it ?

BigPenguin5096d ago (Edited 5096d ago )

Ummm, did you read what I said? Its officially called football everywhere now, I used the word traditionally!!!!!!. In fact in 2005 Australia officially renamed the game from soccer to football to follow suit with the rest of the world, New Zealand in 2007. I was merely saying, just because it is called football now, does not mean soccer is a made up, or even an incorrect term for it.

I was responding to a question asked by CyberSnake, where he asked where the term came from. Soooo... I guess reading comprehension is not a strong suit for you, I am sorry, next time I will further dumb it down.

EDIT: Sorry, called football everywhere now except US and Canada. So when the US calls is soccer, we are calling it the OFFICAL NAME(as set forth by our nations association football governing body). Because where I live, we have not bent to the pressure from FIFA, like all the other pussy nations out there(as I said Australia and New Zealand most recently).

EDIT2: Apparently Samoa still officially calls it soccer as well, so power to you Samoa.

table5096d ago

How can it be purposely contrary in Britain when football was invented in England. Quite a ridiculous statement. You go on about how in Ireland the term football meant all types of hand and ball sports, but this was true in England long before that. They didn't even speak english in ireland when the term football came about...

I have no problem with people saying soccer though, it's only I word.

Baka-akaB5096d ago (Edited 5096d ago )

half of those country werent into football for as long as the countries calling , and it isnt the national sport of half of those country .

The word itself date at least as far back as 1486. The english FA (as in football association) cup date as far back as 1870 . And around that time rugby was either rugby or "rugby football" .
The fifa is from 1904

Of the 45 national FIFA affiliates in which English is an official or primary language, 42 use "football" in their organizations official names (only Canada, Samoa and United States use "soccer")

At least in 2005, Australia's association football changed its name from "soccer" to "football" to align with the general international usage of the term. In 2007, New Zealand followed suit citing "the international game is called football" .

Anyway bottom line the world call it football , aside from a minority of country , inside wich an even smaller minority , actually have it as the number 1 sport .

Some people would be in a riot too , if even for logical reason or historical reasons , a few countries , not even always 100% into it , wanted to stand out by calling basketball instead "handball" , while the world already made a different consensus .

Edit :

you can make fun of people bending over all you want . It just maybe highlight the countries caring the most about the sport itself

maverick11915096d ago

and the rest of Europe call it FOOTBALL! and most Americas call it FOOTBALL aswell

stop thinking its called soccer when in fact when they 1st invented the sport it was called FOOTBALL but oh yeah US is the only country that matters and if US call it that then the whole world must call it that

BigPenguin5096d ago

@mavrick1191 It was called Association Football when it was first ratified, not football. It was called this specifically to differentiate it from football. So mavrick1191, at least get your facts correct. Also, I go to Galaxy games all the time, no one calls it football. Hell do you live?

@Baka-akaB good job just copying wiki. It is completely accurate, but slightly lacking. And if you look at what I said, you really did not add anything to what I had already said other then precise dates. If you had done any additional research besides wiki, you would know that soccer as a term had been created by Brittan, specifically oxford, and had, as a term, spread to the rest of Brittan, Africa, and India(territory's of Brittan), and to the US and Canada(immigration). When FIFA was created, soccer was the prevailing term in much of the world.

And its why today it is still used by most of the "uneducated". Its the reason that even though in South Africa, all the official ads are calling it football, whenever they do man on the street interviews for the world cup they all call it sokker.

@stewgart There is a difference between invention and first ratifying of the rules. By your argument, Brittan also invented Golf, because even though it was invented in 1200's, it was not actually codified until 1750's by The Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St Andrews(which at the time was part of Brittan). Soccer was not invented in Brittan(well it may have been, my actual point is that we do not know exactly when the game like soccer first started being played), it was merely where the first set of rules written down and actual clubs were created. It is a variation of a game played by the peasants(they could not do the Nobel sports) for the past 300 years.
Also the word for the game in Ireland is sacar, not football, that was my point earlier.

@EVERYONE: I am out of bubbles (T-T) hate the 3 bubble system, because despite the different viewpoints, it is a fun conversation.

etebitan5096d ago

Its just a word, soccer/football, call it whatever you want, im from Costa Rica and of course we call it futbol(football), but BigPenguin has a point, for example the southafrican team is called the sokkeros so it makes sense. As of football beign created in britain, thats not accurate enough, for example the ancient mayans used 2 play a game called tlatchly, which was kinda like soccer(of course not the exact same rules), but as a funny fact the losing team was executed...

NBA Jam ? w00t 0_o Thankfully I don't buy any sports games. I hope they are talking about NBA Jam disc based version not the On fire downloadable one

DOMination-4177d ago

I can understand the need to shut down servers. But doing it for games that only came out last year is a bit ridiculous.

I normally try and defend EA on here because I don't think they are as bad as many people make them out to be but but this would annoy me if I owned any of these games.

brish4177d ago

"EA Sports Server Shutdowns"

... and that is why I don't buy EA sports games.

RAYMEISTER4177d ago (Edited 4177d ago )

They're probably following 2k's lead. 2k has already shut down nba 2k12 servers. Which means the average life expectancy u can get from playing nba 2k13 (if u were to buy it now) would be about 10 months. Don't expect to play online longer than that. That means there product is a NO buy for me. If they offered LAN option on the pc side u could always use Tunngle to play online, but they don't so there's no way to play online.

torchic4177d ago

wow they shut down 2K12 servers already???

at least EA gives people 2-3 years to play online, wow. nobody can complain about EA now

and to be fair to EA they shut servers down based on what percentage of people still play online. I remember them saying that they shut servers down which make up less than 1% of traffic across all EA servers, at least that's what they say.

brish4177d ago

"nobody can complain about EA now"
- torchic

Yes we can. 2k sports are also on my "no buy" list.

Dark5tar14177d ago

They better not mean On Fire Edition.

Dark5tar14177d ago

"The decision to retire older EA titles is never easy." That's also what they said when they shut down the servers for BF2: MC.

NicSage4177d ago

I think maybe with the release of pay for your own server on BF3 this is what EA might continue to use for all games giving an option for people who want to play it online.

I'm so sick of EA and all the BS, i'm sick of a lot of publishers anymore.
