Funny I just picked up a game cube today for wind waker.... Wish I could get HD out of it

How can a wii/gamecube game be HD, I have a DVD player that does upscaling and I have a blue-ray player. They are far apart in pictures. The DVD never become HD. So how can a Wii game ever be HD. I know you can put HD on a DVD, but it needs formatted for it. Wii games are not formatted for HD.
I think people just take a large screen shot in shrink it down. So it is HD 5" x 5" pic

The person who did the screenshots used the Wii Dolphin emulator. With the emulator, the person using it can upscale the game to as much as 1920x1080 and use filters and anti aliasing to make it look HD. Looks beastly. Wii HD has been around but only in the pc.

I being gaming for a long time (maybe longer than you), and I know all about Dolphin emulator
My point is this you can say upscale, but is it really. My DVD player may say 1080p, but my eyes say no.
The picture may look better, but not HD.
I'm not trying to down the wii (it's the only system I have this Gen) But it's not HD.
Take a picture (From 5MP camera) It looks OK, until you blow it up.
I think all this is you take a large 480p in reverse it.

I'll break it down a little more, you can't make something out of nothing.

If you could do this XBOX360 could make old XBOX games 1080p

Or the 1st PS3 could make PS2 games 1080p

They can clean them up, but that is all.

Except there are plenty of developers who, rather than risk under-utilizing the technology, program their games with much higher resolution assets, which the Wii then scales down automatically. Theoretically, developers could program the asset at whatever resolution they want, HD included.

When these games are released and played on the Wii, those assets display in the 480p output because that's the max the system can support.

What the Dolphin does is allow the assets to be viewed as they were originally programmed. The ones that with assets that are fairly close to the Wii's maximum output therefore don't see much of a change, while the assets from more ambitious developers almost always see a very pronounced difference.

Your reference to DVD upscaling means more or less nothing, since movies are filmed; not programmed.

If that were true, there would be literally zero difference between Dolphin screenshots and regular Wii screenshots. Is that what your eyes tell you?

If all you have is a vague understanding of what HD means, and are not going to put in the time to actually find out, no one cares about your wrongful intuition.

Your video player may say it supports 1080p and it might but when it plays a lower resolution video it upscales. In an extreme case, for say a single pixel, 4 may be used instead. Consoles do the same for games that are say 600p.

An emulator like Dolphin doesn't upscale, it actually increases the resolution. No, it doesn't fill in extra detail and textures but it increases the clarity and sharpness.

HD relates to resolution only, nothing else. Just because marketing has taught you that HD picture is supposed to look 'extra pretty' doesn't make it true.

I know what HD is, I have HD camera and a blu-ray player. and i have a 1080p plasma. My point is if I take a pic of my tv running a wii game, then shrunk it down it would look HD too. Also these are gamecube screens shots. So no one was under-utilizing the technology (it was what it was) The game is on 1.5 GB disk (something like that) HD take more space on a disk (you can't unlock somethings that not there (this isn't Dr. Who)

I just can't see anything that can make what is into something that much better

to proofs you wrong. if it's only "resolution only" won't that make it "extra pretty".

Like I said I have a wii
and
the wii is a SD system
the games are made for a SD system
if you all wanted a HD system, you should of got a PS3 or XBOX360

I love my wii (and my gamecube, and my Nintendo64. snes, nes)
and all of my sega systems.

So all I'm saying is love it for what it is.

@One last thing, I don't know it all. So lets say your all right, and HD is already there is just needs something to unlock it.
Couldn't nintendo do a system update and then sell like a USB to HDMI thing to make the wii HD now? There are already hacks to connect a Hard drive to a wii (so you can move large data through the USB already)
No need ever for a wiiHD (just wait 4 more years for wii2)

No, it would look like every screenshot for every Wii game ever made, because that's what a SCREENSHOT is.

That's what I said. You can program a game with assets to run at 720p, but when you put that game on a system that only supports 480p, you get a 480p game. This is what as known as 'not under-utilizing the technology'.

This is because you don't have a very solid grasp of what you're talking about. Owning a table does not make you a carpenter.

Neither of those would improve the Wii's processor power, so no.

This is why Dolphin runs not on hacked Wiis attached to HDMIs, but on high-end PCs.
