The Top 7... Best demos of all time

Demos are great. They give you a chance to try out a game before you part with your money, are usually free and almost always give you the same thrill you get from playing a full game when you start it up.

I will never forget the MGS2 demo, truely amazing when i played that for the first time

nix5129d ago (Edited 5129d ago )

i still play Motorstorm 2 demo. i realised that after i bought PES 2010 i didn't even play it for more than 3 weeks (i totally blame Demon's Souls for it). and this is a guy who played PES demos for the two years before that!

dalibor5129d ago (Edited 5129d ago )

Yeah that was an awesome demo. But for me a long lasting wound that will never be forgotten is when I had to go to the elementary school in the Silent Hill demo. Damn demon children were just freaky. That creeped me out (partly b/c I was young mind you, nothing scares me now except accidental pregnancy). And who could forget the demo for the first MGS game where you had to infiltrate the building. Good old memories.

@cez of rage
The Black demo was bad*ss. Same goes for the FF7 demo.

Raf1k15129d ago

I've never played a demo as much as I played the GTA demo on PC.

I also absolutely loved the Command & Conquer demo.

secksi-killer5129d ago

and got the mgs2 demo...lol! that was truly an incredible demo. imo that is probably the best demo yet. i used to like teasing the A.I, hiding behind an in lockers.

Solidus187-SCMilk5129d ago (Edited 5129d ago )

Ohh yeah, I remember getting a disk for my pizza when I was little. I was amazed!!!

I also loved the MGS2 demo as it made me buy ZOE, which ended up being a gerat series(if 2 is a series).

Mista T5129d ago

I remember playing Burnout Takedown on my need for speed underground disk on ps2 for a LONG time. really fun demo

ico925129d ago

2 Demos that i feel deserved a mention ....

1. Bioshock one of the most memorable introductions to a game ever

2. Infamous, a great showcase of the gaming mechanics and depending on the player it was like an hour long

Blackfrican5129d ago

This demo came included with Xbox live. This was the first online multiplayer experience for many and it was amazing. You really got to learn about the type of players across the world:the pros, the schmos, people going backwards, people going forward, people constructing roadblocks, dark master voice masks, high pitch voice masks, crash masters, wheelie riders. Most multiplayer shit talk probably originates to this demo as there is very little I have heard recently that I did not hear on there. The matchmaking system worked, much better than many new releases today. Secret mini games in the credits! You did not need to be a racing fan to truly appreciate the greatness of this demo.

Marceles5129d ago

The FF7 demo that came with Tobal No. 1 should be on the list lol. The first time I saw Leviathan's summon I was blown away.

Playstation Picks was awesome too since it had the demos of all the best launch PS1 games: Battle Arena, Wipeout, Jumping Flash, Ridge Racer, Tekken, Twisted Metal, Warhawk...they should make more demo discs like that again.

willie62895128d ago

the original Gran Turismo 1 demo. I remember renting it from blockbusters. payed full price to rent just like a game, so worth it.

For me, it's all about the demo of the *first* Metal Gear Solid, actually. My brother and I played that thing practically every day for months leading up to its release like 3 months later.

MAN those were good times. Our addrenaline was flowing like it never had before from a video game.

hay5129d ago

Yeah, I played with my cousin MGS demo a lot. On hard, going different ways we could find. Awesome.

BeaArthur5129d ago

Agreed, I played that one many times. For me it's just about any good multiplayer demo (Lost Planet, BC2, etc.).

Microsoft_Spokesman5129d ago

My top 2:

Batman: AA
Battlefield 1943

DelbertGrady5129d ago

The BF BC 2 multiplayer demo is probably the one I've played the most in recent times.

GVON5129d ago (Edited 5129d ago )

My favourite was the 10 minute GTA demo that came with OPM 7 or 14 on PSone.

Raf1k15129d ago

Yep that was absolutely amazing though me and my bro played that on PC and we'd take turns playing it.

10 Biggest Xbox Mistakes of All Time (So Far)

The Xbox brand has done a lot of good over the years, but their various blunders are pretty wild to look back on in their magnitude.

Ironically number 9 can save them at this point (releasing games on multiple platforms)

ChasterMies2h ago

By “save them” you mean make more profit for Microsoft. Xbox will still be a dying hardware platform.

OtterX14h ago

You could add the naming scheme for the consoles, it just confuses customers. I know they wanted to avoid traditional numbering bc it would always be lower than their competitor, but this whole 360 then One then Series thing is confusing af. Imagine a Soccer Mom trying to figure this stuff out. I still mistakenly call the Series X the One from time to time on accident.

RNTody14h ago

Don't forget about the Xbox One, Xbox One X and Xbox Series X! Good luck to Soccer moms around the world.

S2Killinit1h ago(Edited 1h ago)

They did that on purpose to confuse and direct attention away from the generational numbering.

MS doesn’t like reminding people that they joined the industry after others had already been involved in gaming.

For instance, they called the xbox “360” to combat PlayStation “3” because they wanted to seem like “more” than “3”, so instead of xbox 2, they opted for xbox 360. Also this had the additional benefit of selling consoles to uninformed parents who might purchase a “360” instead of a “3” by mistake, or because they thought 360 was more than 3. Kind of a disingenuous move.

They have been continuing with their confusing naming patterns for pretty much the same reasons. Frankly, it fits with who and what they are as a brand.

Cacabunga14h ago(Edited 14h ago)

Phil Spencer is the worst that has happened to Xbox.
They built a respectable brand up to Xbox one. Then this guy took over and things became a joke

Reaper22_9h ago

He still has his job. Something you can't say about Jim Ryan.

Cacabunga8h ago

Both bad execs. One is on job and one thankfully retired.

bunt-custardly4h ago

Phil Spencer was also on the team back when 360 was around, alongside Shane Kim, Peter Moore etc. I think the damage that did the most harm was the Don Mattrick "Always Online" console (ahead of its time basically). They handed Sony and Nintendo a free-pass when that was revealed. It went downhill from there. Then the corporate machine went into full swing to try and recover. They have to a degree as a games company for the masses, and less so for the core gamer. Outside USA, the Xbox brand does not sell as well as Japanese based consoles (citation needed).

Cacabunga3h ago

Want a decision maker. The always online and TV plans was a disaster yes, but they caught up by announcing 1st party games that gamers actually kept the hype going.. until this moron took over and introduced the PC day one release.. e all know where that ended..

S2Killinit1h ago

I dont think they were ever a respectable brand, not since the beginning, when their goal was never to be involved and share in the gaming space. I think the OG xbox was an exception because MS as a brand was still getting its foot in and so the people behind that were people of the gaming industry.

MaximusPrime_12h ago

Really good video.

I remember the days with RRoD was big news on here, N4G.

Microsoft had it turbulence number of years.

Looking at the success of Sea of Thieves despite being 6 years old, time to release Halo, Forza horizon 4 & 5 on PS5. It'll help their revenue

shinoff21839h ago(Edited 9h ago)

2 of the 4 games they did already sold really well. So it's definitely going down. Idk about halo or forza but I feel those studios they've bought in the last 5 years, their coming

ChasterMies5h ago

I found this video painful to watch. Can someone list them out?

Top 10 for me from are:
1. 2013 reveal presentation
2. Bundling Kinect 2 with Xbox One
3. RRoD or why rushing to market with hardware is always a bad idea.
4. Buying studios only to close them.
5. Ads on the Home Screen
6. Letting Halo die.
7. Letting Geard of War die.
8. Every console name
9. Charging for Xbox Live on Xbox 360 when Sony let PS3 players play online for free.
10. Cancelling release of OG Xbox games after the Xbox 360 launched.
