Splinter Cell: Conviction Vs Uncharted 2: Round 2 - Replay Factors

Why continue to compare them?

cyguration5372d ago

You ask why compare them and then you post in the open zone that Uncharted wins???

Anyway, I'm looking forward to both games.

ATY5372d ago

It is a silly comparison.

It be same ridiculous use of the PC version running on a 3000 dollar PC for footage and screenshots. Just like Gears of War, Mass Effect, Alan Wake, etc all try to pull with either lies of 'this footage comes from the 360. Honestly! Not lying' or absurd claims 'the 360 version will look just as good. No really!'

GiantEnemyCrab5372d ago

1.1: hahah he owned himself. Stop pretending to not be a total Sony knob gobbler.

However, I do agree that we don't have all the details of SC:Conviction. They have not talked about the multiplayer at all and we have very few details. While with Uncharted they've had a beta and the game is basically all but announced.

How can you compare replayability when you don't even know what one of the games will entail?

It's a bogus and loaded VS comparison.

Cwalat5372d ago

Uncharted 2 wins imo, NaughtyGods have always been developing topnotch titles.

Splinter Cell is also a great game, but not my cup of cake.

mal_tez925372d ago

I've played through Drake's Fortune over 20 times and I'm no where close to being bored of it.

militant075372d ago

Alan Wake was running on X360 because the PC version is cancelled for now...

deadreckoning6665372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

Splinter Cell wins because of the freedom given to the player. Ur not limited to ONE path of play. But as GiantEnemyCrab says, the only real winners are the people who get both.

@Mezzo- Its ur opinion, but would u mind explaining how Uncharted 2 "seems" to have the better gameplay as opposed to SC: Convicion?

@Obama- The FIRST 2 Splinter Cells were very boring, but we ALL know that Conviction is a new type of Splinter Cell that is faster and more engaging. Conviction is proving that stealth doesn't mean slow gameplay.

-Mezzo-5372d ago

Both Games Looks Marvelous, in their own way/console, but i agree that Uncharted 2 seems to have better Gameplay then SC:Conviction, and needless to mention better graphics.

I am looking forward to Uncharted 2 myself. as well as towards SC:Conviction.

Agree, Then Click That Bubble ++++++ thank you. lol.

menoyou5372d ago

There is no comparison. Uncharted raises bars, Splinter Cell simply doesn't.

BkaY5371d ago

wrong wrong comparison...

compare it with MGS4 not uncharted 2..

jetlian5371d ago

but uncharted will be good. uncharted doesn't have the skill set to be in the running. sam would distroy nathan. splinter cell has more pathways, toys, moves etc. same if you put SC against mgs

vhero5371d ago

If 360 owners think Splinter Cell is their answer to Uncharted 2 then they are totally mistaken. I'm not saying it not gonna be a great looking title nor play good but Uncharted 2 will probably be 2009 GOTY. Only 360 fanboys will obviously disagree but whatever you should do what I did and get both consoles so you can enjoy the best of both :).

jetlian5371d ago

uncharted doesn't need to be answered to. its a good series but its not as big as you would hope

potenquatro5371d ago

Uncharted looks better imo. It's just stylisticly better directed. SC goes for gritty, Uncharted goes for WOW.

WMW5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

"uncharted doesn't need to be answered to. its a good series but its not as big as you would hope" 3 million sold, 88 rating and has better graphics then every 360 game UC2 tops the 1st in length, graphics, replay value and many other things while also adding new things also it won more awards and more important awards then anything else at e3 so you go ahead an tell yourself its not a big game if that makes you feel good about not being able to play it

pixelsword5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

...if a person only owns one console and does not/can not buy the other console, then who really cares what the other game does.

This it just an opinion piece meant to generate hits. If you can get both, wait for the demos and think for yourself. If you can get only one game or have only one console then again; wait for the demo. I'd also suggest that you may want to ignore articles like this because whether the game you want to get wins or loses this comparison, this type of article will only serve to demoralize people by writers who... wait for it:

*actually never played either game to completion yet to have sound judgment to give counsel on either game*

I mean, c'mon! If you did decide to look at the article, did you notice that they don't even have a pic of Uncharted 2? That pic was from the first Uncharted.

Remember, this is all just an opinion: so if it's not YOUR opinion, then why let someone's opinion override yours?

gaffyh5371d ago

This is a stupid comparison, as bad as comparing Gears vs Uncharted. But even then Uncharted wins in every category i can think of, graphics, replayability, story, gameplay. All of them I feel like will be better in Uncharted than in Splinter Cell. Although that doesn't mean that SC won't be a great game.

jetlian5370d ago

win on graphics, replay or gameplay. and the graphics haven't changed much either

gamesR4fun5370d ago

* Splinter Cell: Conviction 13%
* Uncharted 2: Among Thieves 87%

Forza versus Gran Turismo. Alan Wake versus Heavy Rain. Gears of War versus Resistance. Halo versus Killzone.

Who says Xbox 360 hasn't produced heavy hitters? Even still so many PS3 fanboys won't yield even an inch. They can't believe that Xbox 360 can produce such competitive games, especiallly when it comes generation leading visuals and presentation. It's an impossibility to them.

fenix13005371d ago

GT5 will destroy forza in every way imaginable. heavy rain is going to kill AW in terms of the way the story is being told (can't say much about Alan wake's game play, but from what I have seen it looks amazing. too bad they cancelled it for PC). and resistance obliterates Gears in every way, shape, and form (I mean come on 60 players online!?!? I have the games and it still blows me away). and please don't try and compare KZ2 to halo. I mean your comparing a game that gives gut wrenching realism to a game where you run around shooting pink and blue lasers and jump 10 feet into the air.

DevastationEve5371d ago (Edited 5370d ago )

The pink and blue lasers of Halo 3 have been viewed by upwards of 10 million Xbox 360 gamers.

Millions of Xbox Live subscribers have logged on to play what has become the pinnacle of this generation's online gaming. Many of them having never played on Xbox Live, or even online period. Halo 3 has recieved many accolades for its online multiplayer, from casual and hardcore gamers alike.

It continues to smash sales records as we speak, and there are on average 200000 users logged on daily throughout the US and Europe and many other countries across the globe.

OSDT will continue to exhibit why Bungie was a force to be reckoned with. Even though Bungie haven't made any significant changes to their engine with Halo 3 and ODST (besides the remarkable work they've done), Halo Reach will offer a new and revived Halo for the fans.

Correction. For the world.

Do not disrespect the Halo.

edit:

No, what I'm saying is that Bungie's formula works :) gurrilla's doesn't :(

(ew, guess what? you can only disagree with me once per account...time to log in that other one!)

fenix13005370d ago (Edited 5370d ago )

so what your telling me is that a company managed to give the same product under a different name, without changing the game play or innovating anything?!?! god you people are dumber than I thought. GT5 will revolutionize the racing genera, MAG will revolutionize online play, HR will revolutionize story telling in video games. HALO will be HALO and there will never be anything revolutionary about it. BTW the wii has outsold every console this generation, by your definition that must be the best system ever. (not to knock on the wii I loved metroid Prime)

no I only have one account sorry to disappoint :(
and your telling me that GG's formula doesn't work on the basis of sales??? damn your funny. oh btw you wanna know where bungie got their formula from play a little game called Unreal tournament!!! you'll find that it looks strikingly similar lol. bungie just used cut and past and put a different name on it.

DevastationEve5370d ago (Edited 5370d ago )

PS3 fanboys need to let go of the supremacy act. Xbox 360 has consistently matched PS3 pixel for pixel in HD gaming. Especially in graphics.

But most of all...a game like Halo 3 proves that gameplay must ALWAYS win in the end. What good is all the tech talk if KillZone 2 (a game in development for many years) STILL can't even match the original Gears (a 2006 game in development for about 1.5 years) in terms of impact on the industry.

I'm not even gonna try and make this a sales thing. LITERALLY look at the impact KillZone 2 made in the industry. Nothing. Now look at Gears. MAJOR impact, it was the most played online game on XBL for a long time. What does that tell you?

That a game's true value is in what it contributes to the gaming community. When that community turns its back no amount of CellBE overhype or SPE talk can make up for the fact that the game DIDN'T MAKE IMPACT.

...okay. I've spared you the talk about sales.

And now onto sales ;)

edit:

You have lost all respect by saying that Halo got its formula from Unreal. Are you effing kidding me? You could've done better and gone as far back as the original Doom or Quake or Duke Nukem 3D even Castle Wolfenstien.

It shows that you really don't go that far back and that you really don't know much FPS gaming history. I'll give you benefit of the doubt, but seriously Halo and Unreal don't anything the same. Nada. Oh, they shoot in first person. But really the similarities ends there.

fenix13005370d ago (Edited 5370d ago )

umm no there is no game on the 360 that can match uncharted or MGS4 and don't even try and push anything else if you want proof watch.
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

please don't mistake impact with lack of choice. if people are forced to play a certain game on a console then people will play it (isn't COD 4 play significantly more anyway?). and Killzone 2 is not just about the graphics, is about the sound the physics all of which create a new level of immersion into a game that delivers a gut wrenching realistic experience all in one package. (has anyone noticed that players on European servers on KZ are way better than on the american servers). ps3 has pushed the boundaries on what is possible this console generation from title to title. the 360 gives you the same stuff that you have been playing since 1999. oh and it allows you to see the bottom of an avatars shoe!!!

You know because I'm craving for your respect /sarcasm

Edit:
lol that was funny!!!

DevastationEve5370d ago (Edited 5370d ago )

To infinity and b3yond ;)

edit:

I'd rather the both of you just not reply in a 360 section if it's of no interest to you or if all you have to say is something negative. Really.

edit 2:

...you ask me to go to the openzone when I simply began this whole thing by saying that Xbox 360 has games that compare well with PS3 games and then Fenix went out of his way to insult each one that I listed. And then after being very organized with my case that Halo 3 specifically had a lot to bring to this generation he persisted.

Help me out here, I don't see how your logic works.

kalebgray925370d ago (Edited 5370d ago )

your name says it all i hate fanboys who play victim when they put another console down at the same time and this isnt a 360 section im pretty sure it says Splinter cell and Uncharted 2....please use open zone for now on

edit: and really disagrees... does your bio say something different im confused?

Iff you dont agree you need to get a eye exam and a brain check

Splinter cell is in league off his own

Dont even compare this game is a insult to splinter cell

Uncharted should get compared to a crapy game in its league like vampire rain

Tinted Eyes5372d ago

Its in a league under Metal gear

xb0x_trashie5372d ago

splinter already dropped out of the league and cannot compare to any game past the nes

xbox fails agaain..

deadreckoning6665372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

Gameplay-wise, Splinter Cell wins on variety and the freedom given to the player. One situation can be tackled in so many different ways. The fact that Uncharted 2 has fighting AND stealth mechanics is impressive but the campaign has a linear path with the objective of shoot ur way from point A to point B.

Graphics- Uncharted 2, because its Uncharted 2.

@Saaking- "Splinter Cell is a poor man's MGS4" Are u out of ur mind?? Do u really thk anyone would give MGS4 a second look if its wasn't for its story? Can Snake "spot and mark"? Can Snake infiltrate a mansion full of guys in less than 5 minutes? Can Snake climb up a pole, hang off a ceiling, and shoot a chandelier, making it fall out top of his enemies? No, he can't. From the SC trailer, its obvious that Sam moves are done MUCH MUCH more quicker and deadlier than Snake's. When has Snake even SLAMMED A GUYS FACE INTO A WALL "DURING GAMEPLAY?" Stop being a fanboy Saaking, u don't know what ur saying. One thg we can agree on is that WE BOTH want to see Conviction come to the PS3.

I love how the silly ps3 fanboys always jump right into the "VS" articles and always claim. "its wrong to compare these two, its like comparing a helicopter to an airplane" LOL, for once free yourselfs of your fanboyism ignorance and do some research. Yes we understand they are both on seperate consoles and yes one has better gameplay mechanics then the other, but lets not forget their simularities defenitly can and WILL be compared. First of all uncharted 2 gameplay offers no such sneaking, all i've seen in gameplay videos is mindless run and gun shooting, Although i got to admit some of the guns look impressive. Splinter cell conviction on the other hand offers the greatest sneaking mechanics this generation, and gameplay improvments never seen in videogame history which i believe will revolutionize espionage gaming altogether. Uncharted 2's settings are ok, they take place in alaska and in a rural town. I like some of the details in some of the trees's but lets not forget splinter cell conviction takes place all around the world, including the mediterranian islands.

Nitrowolf25372d ago

really no sneaking in Uncharted? i remember some of that in number 1.

The Swordsman5372d ago

I'm sure I read somewhere, when the game was first announced, that there would be stealth elements in Uncharted 2.

Obama5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

One thing for sure though, is that SC story will be as boring as the previous titles. I have played the first 2 splinter cell, and found the story boring and characters uninteresting, especially Sam Fisher. The gameplay in the first one is not bad, but not that impressive either.

Do people ever talk about Sam Fisher? As far as I am concerned noone really cares about the character.

DaTruth5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

They stated that in Uncharted 2 you have a choice to stealth or gun or a little of both; That is why he has so many stealth moves! Lol, they take features out of Uncharted 2 for the comparison's sake and still it comes up on top!

The first screenshots that released show the stealth gameplay!

You have a Gears of War avatar, and you speak badly of "teh mindless run and gun gameplay"!

Ri0tSquad5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

Lol, and you tell everyone else to do research. Looks like you didn't do enough yourself.

"Splinter cell conviction on the other hand offers the greatest sneaking mechanics this generation, and gameplay improvments never seen in videogame history which i believe will revolutionize espionage gaming altogether."

Yet you probably haven't even played it.

Your whole post just screams irony.

Unicron5372d ago (Edited 5372d ago )

LOL... someone didn't read ANY hands on with Uncharted 2. No stealth..? Haha, lol. Poor poor hypocrite. Also, no sneaking = bad game now? Damn, then Madden 2010 sucks!

Can't wait for another great espionage game with the most boring main character EVER. sigh. Pity too, Ironside is the man.

Both games will rock, be nothing alike, and I will purchase and enjoy both. Wooo!!!

god_o_war5371d ago (Edited 5371d ago )

i dno i mean this is pretty sneaky

damn image never worked!

shadow27975371d ago

"LOL, for once free yourselfs of your fanboyism ignorance and do some research."

"Uncharted 2's settings are ok, they take place in alaska and in a rural town."

Great research there, buckaroo. I also love how you say that these games are really similar and should be compared and then go on a rant about how different they are. Haha.

Now to set you straight. As has been said, Uncharted contains both stealth and gunning. It's a mini-sandbox just like Splinter Cell. Uncharted 2 also takes place around the world. That "Alaska" you've seen is actually in the Himalayas. Here's the list of known locations: "You start in Turkey, and then go through Borneo, Nepalese cities, and then mountains in Tibet and the Himalayas, and more."

I'm looking forward to both games for different reasons. They're both going to be great games.

Currently playing Drakes Fortune on crushing, next will be to replay Among Thieves, but I'm sure it still holds up today.

P_Bomb1471d ago (Edited 1471d ago )

Recently re-platinumed 1-3. Uncharted 2 aged better than I even expected. I enjoyed it more now than I did a decade ago. It’s more polished than 1, tighter than 3 and Yemen in 3 was gorgeous. Shambhala out-prettied Ubar though. 60fps w higher res’ made for a damn good rerun.

Abnor_Mal1471d ago

Question: When you say Uncharted2 aged better than expected, are you talking about the original PS3 game or the remastered collection on PS4. I ask because I think that a remastered version of the game would look and play better than the original.

I doubt that the original ran at 60 frames, how many years old is the remastered collection anyway.

I need to replay the original trilogy along with the collection, not a fan of the collection trophy of beating levels in a set time and don't think the originals required that for platinum.

P_Bomb1470d ago (Edited 1470d ago )

@abnor_mal
It’s true that the remasters have upped the resolution and given it 60fps, but the base game is the same. The art design and base textures/physics/ animations are the same yet still look contemporary. More-so than UC1 which isn’t as tight, or UC3 in some cases which I found a bit clunky in close quarters.

UC2 level design was a great evolution in bringing the verticality from the jungle into rural/urban settings while maintaining smooth animation transitions. Drake still moves better than the ginger in Star Wars Jedi. Outdoor areas are better lit.

UC2 also has more action and better pacing imo, which helps when replaying a game 10 years later. Kept me engaged.

You don’t need to time trial for platinum. They stuck the speedrun trophies in a seperate extended dlc category so have no fear.

MadLad1471d ago

I thought the originals were good, but not great. I understand that puts me in the minority here. That said, Uncharted 4 was freaking fantastic.

Profchaos1471d ago (Edited 1471d ago )

Yeah I understand the hate for 4 prior to playing it I was firmly against it and felt like 3 wrapped things up already but now after playing it I think it was the best in the franchise.

Now I look back at two and I feel like I'm playing an on the rails shooter everything is so tightly scripted including the infamous train scene you simply can't make a mistake

Rimeskeem1471d ago

I think Uncharted 2 is a lot like AC2. Both games took the idea and basically improved it in every single way.

Movefasta19931471d ago

Uc2, AC2,Halo2, Soul calibur 2, Killzone 2, Infamous 2 , Dishonored 2 and a few more. The only negative thing I have against uc2, and imo it annoyed me,are the blue apes, uncharted 1 handled the super natural far better.
