Forget griefers. Here's who can really destroy video games as we know them.

Whom should a gamer fear? Aliens? We clip 'em with a headshot from 200 yards. Mushrooms? We'll stomp 'em flat. Guys with fast cars? Magical summoned demons? Zombie Nazis driving dinosaur mechs? Please.

But in the real world, it's another story. People here can mess us up. He's an absolute nutjob, but anti-gaming crusader and "Seriously? This guy hasn't been disbarred yet?" lawyer Jack Thompson would like nothing better than to see every game, publisher, developer, and even player cast into a giant, Terminator-style pool of molten iron. That can't be good. And he's just the tip of the iceberg.

I checked this site for duplicate stories and I could not find one. There are a few "Top Ten" stories floating around but none of them are about the "People Who are Most Dagerous To Videogames" or at least when I did the search nothing like it came up....this is a very interesting read and it contains alot of valid info all Gamers can appreciate. Please let me know what story this is a duplicate of or approve it. Thanks in advance.

only thing that has me worried is the game's i'll be playing when i have kids myself. i dont want my kids to see gears of war, or to think that's it's ok to cuss and shoot stuff.

i do it too much myself, and i'll be having kids soon enough. i think i can handle it though, i'm not a psycho or a fanboy, and i know what's right and wrong... still i'm worried about all the other media that will get thrown at my kids

Fanboys - please read!

I especially like the section about game shop employees. I've seen many a noob or parent alientated by some idiot who was selling lies - like being charged $5 per Xbox title by MS to play an XBOX game on the 360. And - did you all know Halo is coming to the PSP? Well, according to some dude at a local Gamestop, we can expect it by the end of the year - around the same time as Halo 3.

Also, you CAN afford all systems - after the prices drop. I just bought a PS2 this past Christmas. - And I've had my 360 since lauch, but since I'm a gamer, I had to play some of the PS exclusives - and it will be awhile before I can afford a PS3 - probably Christmas 2008.
You do not need to always have the absolute latest and greatest - and many older games are not only great, they are classics.

I`m not sure sequels are so dangerous. I have nothing against original games, but what i ultimately want after playing a great original is another game. The EA style update is what`s the problem for me, but i`m glad EA are developing some original games which could turn out good, Skate and Army of Two. Naturally i would want to se sequels which has undergone a transformation for the better, like Resident Evil 4, even though i wished i was more scary, like the previous games. Maybe i`ve grown up, and are not as easy to scare too, hehe.

My point is, don`t bash a game just because it`s a sequel, i mean God of War 2 was a really great game, but it didn`t make all that changes either from what i`m told (hope it`s out soon here in Norway too, i want to play it). But what dose it matter if the game is i prime example for it`s genre ? Gears of War wasn`t revolutionary either ( havn`t played this one either yet unfortunately :(), but do it matter, as long as it`s great fun ?

Stupid politicians, are actually the best commercial games can get, because they don`t have a clue what they are talking about, and are placing the blame of games where movies and music got it before. In Norway more people got interested in GTA after some dumb politician wanted to ban it, it was the best PR it could have got. The 10-year old kid shouldn't`t be playing a game like GTA, but violence is so present in society elsewhere too, take a look at the news or children shows. A Hardcore gamer in my image is a guy playing CS or WOW, and being a danger only to his own growing body, helped by frozen pizza and Coke ( the drink, if you were wondering).

This is a great article. I like how it admits to the problems within gaming as well as outside. Fanboys, little unwatched rude children, snobby gamers (esp those working in game stores) are as much a problem as the unaware public and the useless politicians looking for votes.

The problem with sequels is a hard one to fix too. The article says not to buy the sequels and instead look for the new innovative games. All I want are fun games. If a franchise is good then I think people should buy its sequels with no guilt. Sure I try the new stuff too but I wont turn my back on games I like as long as they remain good...(although I see little reason to keep buying the same sport game every year)

We are defiantly on the same page,in a double sense ;), concerning sequels. Original games are well and good, but i won`t buy a game just because it`s original, it has to be a fun and great game for me to do it. I hate it when people say it`s Metal Gear 48 or Final Fantasy 36, don`t judge a game for it`s title or number behind. As long as it make good advances or a great experience, what`s a number or title. This also has to do with another problem you brought up, the fanboys of course. Unfortunately it seems as they are the majority on pages like this.
