Lets talk some Zune HD specs

Neowin reports: "We've teamed up with Ryan Rea (aka volvoshine) from LiveSide.net and are going to let the world know what we do and do not know about the Zune HD. We've got the green light to go ahead and share the specs that our sources within Microsoft have confirmed to us."

An overview of the Zune HD specs:

* 3.6 inchish OLED full touch screen.
* NVIDIA Tegra powered.
* 4GB, 8GB, 16GB, 32GB, and 120GB versions.
* HDMI Connection to stream straight to your TV.
* HD Radio.
* Web Browser.
* WiFi compatible, with wireless marketplace.
* Released, early fall.
* International release of the Zune device itself.
* Home AV packs, Car packs, Charge packs.

I had the 1st-gen Zune and said I would wait till a couple of gens before getting one again, even though I did like some features on there.

right now the itouch goes for about 200-230$ depending on how you buy
if MS truly wants this device to be successful they will have to make it cheaper which is possible,
if the starting price is around 180 then ill get one but itouch has a lot of support so i dnt know
it has a web browser but if it doesnt feature programs like aim or user created applications then the device wont have much recognition

This for me is enough to consider this device. If you've seen any if the demos or videos of Tegra, you'll know why.

If this has the right price, it'll be a surefire purchase for me.

They'd most likely want to keep it in the same price range as the ipod touch, so I'd except the same price or very close to it. Which would have me pick this up over the touch any day.

The Tegra platform itself is rather cheap due to it's small chip size and VERY simple board configuration.

had a 4GB nano. It broke, so I wnet and saw the first gen iTouch, took an 8GB as I was low on cash at the time (just bought my 360 Elite). Was nice for a while, as I love the interface. However, I needed much more space, for music, and mostly for videos. So, about 4 months later, I went and bought a 120GB zune.

It actually all makes sense to me.

I'm not trying to hate on it, but with the 1,000's of developer support the iPod has, it's really hard to see something like this taking over. Plus, when most people think about MP3 players, they think about the iPod...not a Zune. Heck, people I know have never even heard of a Zune, lol.

The Xbox. Came out, was the new thing, not heard of, didn't do so well either. Then the next iteration comes along and actually gains its own healthy market share, even dominating the last gen winner, Sony. Sounds familiar with the Zune...history repeating itself, this time with an mp3 player.

Wii is this generations market leader, where the 360 can't compete. nor can the more expensive ps3. As far as your metaphor goes, microsoft would have to dominate the Wii, which it cant, in order for it to be remotely accurate.

Neither could the zune against the ipod.If dominating = 33% failure rate and 3 million more sold than your last discontinued hardware.. then yes..amazing world -you- live in. Wake me up when the 360 leads the Wii in gaming for casuals in any region. Then you'd have a terrible metaphor, but at least accurate.

You are forgetting that the first zune flopped because Apple is dominating the Mp3/portable market. GdC gave no awards to ds/psp games yet Iphone games won.

Don't let the blind loyalty to MS blind you from the truth. MS cant compete with the ipod, else the zune would actually be known by people outside of xbox and microsoft forums. they cant buy any exclusives, they cant launch a year earlier, they just plain cant.

Apple has created their own niche market, much like nintendo created with its gaming.

EDIT: Just for the record, I am a PS3 lover and have never looked back since I sold my 360..so no fanboy nonsense, just saying it doesn't sound smart from a corporate decision, unless they can somehow launch this for about the same price of their 360 arcade and use pricey software to make back their money...

Funny... lots of haters keep saying how the Zune would never be able to compete against the ipod...

in reality it would not be that hard.

If these specs are true... and the zune can play all xbox live arcade games and xna games on day 1... you already know it will murder the ipod... only with the sales of xbox 360 owners that would love to play xbox live arcade games while on their way home.
