Guerilla Games: No Decision Made Regarding Controls

In a seeeming U-Turn, Guerilla Games have chosen to clarify their position on the most controversial subject that has surrounded KillZone 2; the control/aim sensitivity.

Despite previous articles submitted as news, Guerilla have never out right rejected the idea of releasing a patch to tweak the XY sensitivity as they emphasised they would look hard at feedback from players. That feedback has come to a resounding conclusion - the controls are an issue to a significant amount.

Read the forum posting to read their intentions.

Personally, shooting at some from a distance is reasonable fine and managable but it's when the range becomes close that it becomes ridiculous and purely luck. Turning around whilst firing and trying to avoid the shots from an enemy right behind you, whom is too struggling to turn quickly enough, is damn right almost impossible to master. Your speed of thinking and the speed of the game are not in conjunction, you are essentially thinking too fast which makes you shoot too early, to late to hit the target.

I accept that this was intentional from the developers. I have adapted to the game and can enjoy it largely, but I don't like the sense of having no to little control of my fate in the game when it comes to certain scenarios such as the one above.

It appears that Faith No More are planning a reunion tour. That makes me very, very happy!

MicroSony4Life5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

If the controller aren't fixed (I fine nothing wrong with them) what will be the fate of the Multi.

There's a reason why people still play Halo and COD (Not comparing them to Killzone 2) because majority of the people that play those games like the control. If we were to do a survey with every one that played Killzone 2 and asked them if the control mechanics of the game is fine, I think the majority would vote to change it.

Because when it comes to it, the game could have the best graphics in the world and have tons of features but if the control is more a task to control, gamers are willing to give all that up.

gameplayer5554d ago

if people want call of duty controls then go play call of duty. This is Killzone 2 and this game uses killzone 2 controls. The crybabies that are used to being on the top of COD leader boards need to adapt or get used to being on the bottom of killzone 2 leader boards. I like the controls as they are.

original seed5554d ago

I want to play Killzone2 "Gameplyer". I just want more responsive controls. "Meus" hit the nail on the coffin. That is a big problem and its down to luck at some points. It just sucks not being able to execute ones intentions.

yamamoto1145554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

When you pull the trigger of a small firearm, does it take 200-500 milliseconds for it to spit out a bullet? In very rare cases and with certain weapons, yes. If properly maintained, no. It will fire instantly.

I also know for a fact that I can respond faster in real life with a pistol than I can in Killzone 2. It does not take me an entire half a second to aim my weapon 45 degrees to the right.

Before anyone goes and yells "it's not lag, it's realism", guess what. It's neither. The real term is "controller input delay", when it takes the game a split second to recognize when a button has been pressed. And that's a sin in any game that relies on timing to complete tasks, especially one that's "aim and shoot".

Yeah I know a lot of you are gonna say they did it intentionally for realism, but in the end, artificially hiking up the difficulty by making controls difficult to wrestle with is a fundamental flaw in any video game. One's ability to play the game should be judged by how quickly their mind can respond, not how quickly the game can respond to their mind.

Statix5554d ago

Extremely well-put, yamamoto114. In real life, a soldier will move his gun to his side instantaneously, if he suddenly spots an enemy to his right. There will be no half-second delay to the start of this movement. And there will be no "physics inertia" governing his arm's motion where it slowly "accelerates" from slow to fast as the soldier has to react as quickly as possible to being flanked by an armed hostile.

To all the defensive fans who say that those voicing their opinions on the controls are "just grasping for a reason to bash Killzone 2," you should realize that most, if not all, of these people are PS3 owners and fans of Killzone 2, who have PSN and Playstation Underground accounts, and they all want the game to hopefully GET EVEN BETTER with future patches. They want the game to be perfect in all respects, and that includes having responsive controls that befit a triple-A, instant-classic online game that people will love and play for years.

bviperz5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

No, a real soldier does not 'move' his rifle instantaneously on a target. You probably have never carried/used a real rifle, or you wouldn't have made/agreed to such a notion. If you think for one second that a soldiers movements with a rifle closely resembles that of a video game, than you are sadly mistaken. A soldier depends on tactics, cover, teamwork, and the fact that there is no such thing as twitch reflexes on the battlefield to win. Just like Killzone 2.

jammy_705554d ago

and the multiplayer is amazing!!
there is a little slight lag (when you tap to turn left it doent do it STRAIGHT away) but its only a 0.1 second lag lol

this game is better than anything on 360 :)

UnwanteDreamz5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

No doubt but these guys think combat is like what you see in the movies. How about asking a real soldier how fast he can come out from behind cover to get a headshot at 100 yards? Takes me only a couple of seconds in KZ2.

Oh and if you want to move faster lvl up and use boost with the assault class. Any faster and you will miss the battle.

dragunrising5553d ago

I don't understand the complaints about the controls. I have no problems myself. In real life, your aim shifts when you move your weapon side to side. The shift and accompanying delay is dependent on the weight of the weapon and how fast you move your aim. There is a delay in everyday movement on account of momentum. Your person and weapon has mass that can't simply turn on the dot. The larger the weapon the longer the delay to ready the weapon. Try running with the rocket launcher, stop, and turn 90 degrees to fire. Then try with the pistol. You will get my point. In COD, your aim (reticule) is always where you put it regardless of your movement. In summary, Killzone 2's aim has more to do with where your arms lie in x, y, and z space relative to momentum.

Personally, I think people are fighting against the physics. Twitch shooting is more difficult as it should be. Killzone 2 is a hardcore game made for the hardcore. Love it.

I thought the controls were fine. Its the guns that piss me off. Im trying get the repair skill and I have to use the engineer, but the only gun he can start off with is a shotgun. It seems that I have to shoot somebody 2,3 or more times to kill them and I die from one bullet even if I have full health and even if its not a head shot. I know its not because I suck because I dont. I actually had a 105% shotgun accuracy though it did go down to 97% yesterday, but I also earned an award and trophy for being in the top 10% players of last week. I have video to prove my award. I will make a video of my gun accuracy if anyone doubts that too. BTW Im known as DA_SHREDDER on the psn.

xabmol5553d ago

Top 1% >8]

I got it after my 24 hour play session. Addiction? xD

I really enjoy the slower pace in the MP. It's more tactical and less run and gun. Makes you think before you act.

Socomer 19795554d ago

ive mastered the controls and i have a system that allows me to shoot very well in very close quarters. (Except with the helghan pistol)

see my previous post on the subject.

Guitarded5554d ago

Does a knife have the same weight as a rocket launcher? NO. Except in Killzone 2. The controls do not feel realistic, they feel sloppy. Fix the controls, or suffer from weak sales. Your choice GG.

jBat175553d ago (Edited 5553d ago )

if the controls are broken, then why is the sniper rifle as responsive as the ones in other FPS? because the controls are not broken.

you just don't have the skillz. go play cod4 with aim-assist doing everything for you.

different guns control differently in this game. if you want spray and pray, go for the SMG. wait, scratch that, without skillz, your bullet spray won't hit anything- like the one scene in pulp fiction

Fishy Fingers5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

I've also done a U-turn...

I complained about the demo, still believe there was a problem at least with for some people, myself included. But the retail is perfect, no "dead spots" or any other fancy labels people have gained from reading to many forums.

The controls are tight, manageable and easily learnt. Sure there is a learning curve, as there was with COD4 when first released. Dont recall everyone demanding Halo controls then. With a little practice you'll be popping off heads as easily as you did in any other previous FPS. I've put about 35 hours in the MP, and I was more than comfortable after just a few. 4-1 ratio, top 1% online :) Happy days....

Mindboggle5554d ago (Edited 5554d ago )

I agree, there is a slight learning curve, but due to people bumming COD they dont want to learn anything else, and the first sign of something different they complain.

The controls are brilliant and with a little persistence you will killing with ease, and for me the lag and sensitivty complaints are due to people being crap, and not putting enough time and practice into it.

SSCOOLCHEA5554d ago

There is nothing wrong with the controls . If a few idiots can't adjust to the controls there's other games that they can play . I love the controls and tweaking it will pissed me off .

PlayStation 3 Games That Desperately Need a PS5 Remaster

The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.

Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!

Rude-ro70d ago

I played killzone 3 in 3d and it really changed the game per being immersive.
In vr, that would be even more awesome.

darthv7270d ago

Funny you mention that... my son wanted to play some PS3 games in 3d on my PS tv and he was blown away by how good KZ3 was. It really was a great addition to the game. Im surprised there have not been more 3d games from that era being ported to the PSVR/VR2.

_SilverHawk_70d ago

resistance 1-3, killzone 1-3, uncharted 1-3, uncharted golden abyss, folklore, socom 4 , motorstorm, twisted metal, MAG, heavenly sword

Killzone 2+3
Sly Thieves in Time
Crack in Time
God of War Ascension
Motorstorm
Modnation racer
Infamous 1+2

Profchaos69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Killzone trilogy in VR would be amazing bonus points if they offer shadow fall.

There was a psvr1 Killzone project that supermassive was working on at one stage which wasn't up to scratch and Sony brand it back in house I was hoping we would see that on psvr2 eventually.

Personally I'd love to see some more love or acknowledgement of psvr2 from Sony in general it was a expensive headset and Sony barely acknowledge it's existence

seanpitt2369d ago

The amount of work needed to remaster these games wouldn't be beneficial on a financial and business sense.. MGS4 would probably be the best bet as it would need the least amount of work!

Iceball200070d ago

YEAAASSSSS! I miss this franchise and wanna play it so bad again.

Father__Merrin70d ago

The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer

InUrFoxHole70d ago

The resistance series is str8 trash to me. Socom 3 I would welcome. Or killzone MP.

Marcus Fenix70d ago

A Resistance reboot will be awesome

Michiel198970d ago

That's what Bungie should make, Ill keep saying it until it happens

1Victor70d ago (Edited 70d ago )

Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱

Resistance was the best co-op fps I ever played after L4D2

Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.

1Victor374d ago

Can’t wait for their next franchise

SullysCigar374d ago

Same. They nailed it with Horizon. The trouble is I also want a new Killzone! Can't I just have it all?!

jznrpg373d ago

I’m with you I want Horizon 3 , Killzone and new IPs

badz149373d ago

I have yet to play Burning Shores as I just started Forbidden West (bought at launch, just unwrapped last weekend LOL) and playing on PS5.

man...I still can't believe the graphics especially now I'm playing it on my LG OLED. that graphics and with stable performance backing it up, GG really is the master of their craft!

Vengeance1138374d ago

32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III

Shane Kim374d ago

That's kind of a huge drop though. It's only been two games.

VersusDMC374d ago

One year after realease HZD sold 7.6 million.

https://www.noobfeed.com/ne...

So not a drop off.

Unless you're saying a HFW should have sold as much now as HZD sold in 5 years?

Vengeance1138374d ago

It's been 3 games, this includes Call of the Mountain. Also no, its a great improvement over HZD.

solideagle374d ago

lol you are comparing:

HZD: 28 February 2017 - May 2023 (6 years+)

HFW: 18 February 2022 - May 2023 (1 year+)

We will see if it surpass original number.

Phoenix76374d ago

@shane, 2 full main games, 2 DLC add ons, 1 VR spin off game, oh and a an official LEGO set.
Not too bad for an ip that's only been on market for 6 years

REDGUM373d ago

Wow, very impressive. I didn't know the numbers were so high for Forbidden West. Still playing through it myself

thesoftware730374d ago (Edited 374d ago )

Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.

I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.

blacktiger373d ago

thank you fps lover, I'm with you

talocaca374d ago

Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.

The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.

OzzY-waZZy374d ago (Edited 374d ago )

Kinda wish they move on from Horizon tbh.

potatoseal374d ago

They are probably working on mutiple projects. One of them is Horizon 3, but another is a multiplaer game and probably somehting else.

Imalwaysright374d ago

There were rumours that they were working on a Socom reboot.

Top 20 Best PlayStation 3 Games (20-11)

Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Is the PlayStation 3 retro? This is a surprisingly hard question to answer as the system definitely has the age to be considered retro, having launched in 2006, over 15 years ago now. But with it being home to so many massive games, many of which still hold up today and in fact were released for the PlayStation 4 when that console was released, make the PS3 a retro console that doesn’t feel retro."

shinoff2183745d ago

No ps3 is not retro. I dont even consider ps2 era retro. All imo.

shinoff2183745d ago

Typically, the term retro is given to items which are at least 20 years old (but not yet 40 years old).

Quick google search

badz149745d ago

No the PS3 is not yet a retro console. But if you're gonna put 1 game from a series in this list, then LBP2 should be there instead of the original, Motorstorm PR is also an overall better game than the 1st game and to put Tools of Destruction over A Crack in Time is a blasphemy when ACiT is the best game in the series.
