At the end of the Grounded II documentary, series' co-creator Neil Druckmann all but confirmed that there will be a The Last of Us Part 3.
Ellie's story still needs a proper ending that wraps up the series's themes about cycles of violence.
Instead of Guns lots Guns from Neo in the matrix , Ellie in the TLOU 3 will be like, we need Protein lots of Protein.
How about a real world situation with real expectations and conclusions. In times hard times such as those will not see women playing roles as strong independent leaders. Its preposterous and charlatan, like a Feminist wrote their dream into existence.
@Pan Handler....I guess Joan of Arc, Queen Boadicea, Queen Artemisia, Khutulun, Fu Hao and all the other notable women in history just don't exist then huh?
@Crows90
My point isn't the amount of strong women, it's that they exist. Leaders in general are far and few, the fact that these women exist, amongst many many other strong female leaders is evident of that. How about just stop being sexist? While Tlou may have had a high ratio of strong females, that's only because we see the perspective of combatants , not normal citizens. Stop acting like the world today doesn't have female soldiers, police, security guards, world champion martial artists, bodybuilders etc. You may be disappointed to see that there is indeed FAR more than 1%
Tlou 3 doesn't need to be made the story and direction was massacred in the sequel let's just leave it there.
Panhandler,
The depiction of Abby wasn't unrealistic, just improbable. She and her people lived in a pretty isolated environment that was well-resourced. You're acting like she lived in a town barely getting by. And as one of their best soldiers, you don't think that would create the conditions for her to procure or be given priority for resources?
In a world that is destroyed and people live in fear daily and need protectors, I don't see how any of that is unrealistic.
Even if it was, I love that the critics of Part II can compartmentalize their suspension of disbelief where a mushroom outbreak has taken out society before nuclear weapons ever did is realistic, but buff Abby isn't.
C'mon now...
@Panhandler
Funny how nobody said a peep when Ellie took out all of David's men and David at 14 years old in Part 1. But when Ellie does the same thing at 19 years old in Part II – everyone's up at arms and whining how this is Feminist propaganda.
Also, I'm pretty sure one of the _main_ themes of the part 2 was revenge begets revenge. They sold that message very clear, and what a poison that mindset can be. Understandable, yes, but it's poison. Both main characters were guilty of it, but one character found a reason to stop the cycle. So Part 3 would just be more revenge? I feel the concluded that saga really well. They could go other directions, but they would have to find a really good one to justify it.
You know most people can eat a Feminist Sandwich in which there's transparency with both equal strong female and male characters. But this is where TLOU failed and become a #metoo movement. If you remember correctly during TLOU1 the hardcore push from commie leftist was in full female hulk smash mode. The hatred for men has only gotten worse. But history comes back around and as a man that's deployed several times and saw what can quickly happen in America when things go to hell (IE hurricane Katrina in 2005). Humanity can lose its morality real quick and when that happens the rule of law is null and void and the rule of men takes over you'll see real quick how Ole Ellie would fair. It's not practical and border line fairy tale.
@Crows90
You know what's also less than 1%?
Happening upon the one person who's immune to a global zombie infestation.
Pretty sure that cycle was wrapped up with #2. Do you want to play a game of her being completely pacifist?
Yeah I don’t get those wanting Part IIi when the cycle is done
They ruined her character in my opinion so what’s the point bringing her or any of them back
New location, new characters, new themes please. The Last of Us: “Subtitle Here”
Not just her character, they ruined it all by trying to subvert expectations the wrong way and then take the story to dark ugly places "just because".
Stories are only finished when the money stops rolling in. And companies are playing by this particular rule more than ever - to the point where we have more remakes and badly-made story continuations than ever being made.
We will probably get a third Last of Us that’s somehow worse than the second due to how little Neil Druckmann seems to understand his own work - something which only seems to be a flaw of his.
I have a pitch for a cool Batman game. Imagine if Batman forgets everything he knows and gets unceremoniously killed in the first hour by a group of the most unlikeable characters ever written. Then you play as Robin trying to get revenge, only for the game to do the old switcheroo halfway through making you play as the least likeable character involved in Batman's ridiculous death, and tries forcing you to actually like them 😃 Then when Robin finally catches up with the main unlikeable character to reap revenge he just says "let's just forget about the whole thing, on your way now." 😃😃😃
@ArchangelMike
Yes this please, i want to play as Joel and tommy just after the infection started and Sarah died. I want see how joel loses it and does insane stuff like the raiders which is referenced in last of us first game.
We could also play as Tommy when part of the fire flies. I love both games but hate the story of part 2. Being able to play as both the above would be epic.
bloop
That would be a good pitch but what do you think about making the players view the character they don't like due to savage murder of Batman as some sort of tragic hero at the expense of Robin by presenting scenarios that offer a dichotomy? How about making the unlikable character spare a pregnant lady and then having Robin killing a pregnant lady? Maybe you could have the character we don't like playing with a dog and then having Robin killing that very same dog... I think that lazy and not so subtle manipulation like this would go a long way in order to make the unlikable character as some sort of a tragic hero.
@anast
Ellie in the First Game: Light hearted, tries to crack jokes, grows to see Joel as a father figure, says how she wants to learn guitar and swim after they get to the hospital. In the end she knows Joel is lying but she trusts him enough and gets on with it (Ashley Johnson even said this back then)
Ellie in the Second Game: Does a 180 and says she always wanted to die on that operating table, that somehow her life would have "f****** mattered", totally hates Joel for taking that "choice" away from her despite the fact the Fireflies weren't going to give her a choice. Then you have her suddenly making out she never knew Joel was lying to her when at the end of the first game you clearly can see she does know deep down. The game puts Abby ins a positive light during her gameplay while Ellie looks like an asshole, for example Abby plays with this lovable dog, Ellie is forced to kill it. There's part of the game which make her look stupid, like conveniently dropping a map next to Owen's/Mel's corpse of where her and Dina are with a giant red circle saying "We are Here" to push the story forward. She then goes after Abby again knowing full well she will loose Dina and the baby, tracks Abby down, beats her almost to death, looses her two fingers and then just suddenly decides to let her go out of nowhere. She goes home a broken woman, no Dina, no child, no Joel, no warm home, no fingers and because of that she can't play guitar the one big connection to Joel. All for what? To push Abby / Lev as the new Joel and Ellie
She's like a new character
Oh and after these scenes in the first game
https://i.redd.it/11mmjb7wh...
No way she gave off the impression she wanted to die, look at the scene about sacrificing the few to save the many
"Its kind of shitty"
Bring Joel back.
Ellie still haunted by the events of her past discovers that Joel had a twin and it was that twin who was killed. Joel discovers that he hates guitars and searches the land destroying all of them so Ellie can't keep playing doom and gloom songs on them.
Lastly at the above.
Yes there are female soldiers, police, bodybuilders(roids) but in a one on one with a Man they stand no chance. You can make certain circumstances where a woman could win. With a bazooka.
https://youtu.be/GUIu86y68k...
For you amusement.
@bloop @alwaysright @foxtrot
It's just the same recycled falsehoods over and over again for 3 years.
"Imagine if Batman forgets everything he knows and gets unceremoniously killed in the first hour by a group of the most unlikeable characters ever written."
Imagine if Joel fell asleep in front of Henry and Sam mere hours after meeting them. Imagine if Batman murdered the father of the person who killed him. Imagine if Tommy gave away their names instead of Joel. Imagine if Joel met Abby during an infected attack so they didn't have time to vet her properly. Imagine if Joel is less hardened after living 5 years of peace.
"How about making the unlikable character spare a pregnant lady and then having Robin killing a pregnant lady?"
How about Abby said "good" when she heard Dina was pregnant and only stopped because of Lev, how about Ellie not being aware Mel was even pregnant until after she killed her, at which point she felt sick, triggered PTSD and was willing to give up her pursuit of revenge until Abby attacked again and killed Jesse.
"Maybe you could have the character we don't like playing with a dog and then having Robin killing that very same dog"
Maybe have the dog attack Ellie and leave her with no choice but to kill the dog. If you feel guilt about choosing your life over a dog, that's on you.
"In the end she knows Joel is lying but she trusts him enough and gets on with it (Ashley Johnson even said this back then)"
Ashley Johnson's opinion is not fact. From 2013 to 2020 there was debate over whether Ellie believed Joel or not. That didn't end until Part II gave us an answer.
You can dislike the direction the story went, Joel's death, Ellie not finishing her revenge etc that's fine. I just wish people wouldn't use this dishonest points to frame a false narrative.
"and says she always wanted to die on that operating table, that somehow her life would have "f****** mattered"
"After everything we've been through, everything I've been through...it can't be for nothing"- TLOU1
Lines up completely with her reaction in Part II.
@generic
"After everything we've been through, everything I've been through...it can't be for nothing"- TLOU1 ”
Literally and I mean LITERALLY right after that scene, going down the stairs….
“Look, I know you mean well but there’s no half way with this. Once we’re done we’ll go where ever you want to go okay?”
“Well I ain’t leaving without you so let’s go wrap this up”
Yeah…she definitely knew she was going to die or planned to die huh? Even Joel basically tells her right there he’s not leaving her…
Goes completely against her reaction in Part II along with the other stuff I said above. But sure…ignore that huh
…
generic-user-name
Those 2 scenarios are not innocent. You think that ND created them for the sake of them just being there? They were specifically created to make us feel in certain ways towards Ellie and Abby and all the caveats in the world don't change the clear dichotomies presented in them. Abby plays with the dog and spares a pregnant lady and Ellie kills a pregnant and kills the dog. That's emotional manipulation 101 and it wouldn't be obvious due to the caveats you mentioned hadn't Druckmann retconned the ending of the original. From the moment I realized that they retconned the ending, Druckmann's goals were clear to me and his goal was portray Ellie and Joel as some sort of monsters while attempting to portray Abby as some sort of tragic hero and they most definitely used those two lazy and manipulative scenarios in order to try to achieve his pathetic goals.
Smh. They just keep coming up with these “must” this and that, trying to control the narrative, then they get upset when the real author(s) tell their story.
Please people, just remember you are not entitled to how the story goes in the end.
I agree.
I didn’t like 2 and do say, to this day, that the majority of The Last of Us apart 1s best moments were from people other than Neil Druckmann, simply because his voice is so much different when writing alone. That doesn’t mean that I want to write a list of must do and mustn’t do’s
Yeah, I loved Part 2, but if I hadnt, I would still not feel entitled to tell the writer(s) what should have happened. Its their story, and my right to like or not like. Personally, while sad, the story and everything in that game was top notch. But it was definitely sad, and that is fine.
The Last of Us Part 3 needs to be put on the back burner. I’m ready for some new IP from Naughty Dog.
1000% it's time a for a new IP.
Joel and Ellie's story is done as far as I'm concerned I don't want a future Ellie story or a game of Joel's past or a game about new people.
Once the multi last of us arrives they really should leave it at that, give us something new or bring jak and daxter in a big big way.
Lmao “ 2 TLOU is enough”
Also you “give us a game that’s already had 5 releases”
Way to contradict yourself.
Technically 3 games including the one that is coming.
I don't care for the last of us world as much as I do joel and Ellie and there story lines are done for me so I'm ready to move on.
Yea I'd love to see them make a new ip as the my first and oreffered option but if there not gonna do that and they are gonna rehash an exsisting ip then why not jak?
It's 20+ yrs old now, kids have been born and are old enough to drink now that how long it's been hence it would almost be like a new ip at this point.
If you want the last of us then say that, no need to get bothered by me wanting something else lol
no one wants a new jak; we want tlou 3 to end the series, then naughty dog can move on
It’ll only be a souls game or a boring fantasy RPG with live service elements.
The issue with wanting new things is that there is no newness during this particular era of gaming.
You can be pessimistic or hate if you want but iv played every naughty dog game since the first crash bandicoot on ps1.
They have never disappointed me with a new ip or game for that matter, they are one the best studios in the world and remain so until proven other wise.
Just sounds like u want whatever they do next to suck for some reason.
I hate certain types of games and it’s all they make, so I kinda have to be hateful.
Naughty Dog or not, if they follow the industry trends of today I’m not interested
No need for any needy ass Dungeons and Dragons games.
RPGs are for kids Lucian.
They’re so popular now BECAUSE we played them as kids. Also, people have less responsibility and more time on their hands now. They’re most popular amongst lonely people.
That is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. First no one said an rpg, second, the hell doss age and loneliness have to do with liking a genre? Lmaoooo. I'm a married man with children and multiple jobs, I still enjoy rpgs.
Your comments are so strange lmao. That's like saying SciFi is for old people lmao.
I can't imagine being this thin skinned. They can literally add 20 new straight characters with just 1 gay character and I bet that will trigger you and your ilk.
Closet "conservatives" are like this. I don't mean this in a overly political way.
I'm not sure why the preferences of the characters affect the quality of the game for you. 🤷🏿♂️
Nope, have to pander to woke and weak snowflakes. That's also UK in a nutshell.
It needs to show that TLOU2 was just a bad dream and start the game after the original ending. There are games which don't need a sequel and TLOU along with RDR "in my opinion" are such games
(I understand it's business and companies need to make money)
No it doesn't that's probably the point of the world things often front have a happy ending
No, Naughty Dog just needs to tell their story and let it find its fans. I will always support the artist's right to make what they want. As much as I hated Joel dying and despising Abby, I still support ND's vision. It's THEIR story to tell, not ours.
I think that's the plan
She needs to let things go, find peace and move on.
I thought Part II was brilliant. The emotions it put me through, and the darkness I and she endured. But I have to think, it has to be for something.
Ellie doesn’t need a new redemption arc. The ending of part 2 was as much redemption as you can get. Especially after how many people Ellie killed in the name of revenge. The depths she went to for revenge was pretty awful.
And to leave her best case scenario for revenge to not even take it was its own poetry. Ellie’s story is done, and greatly so
I am pretty sure the Naughty Dog camp has stated that they aren’t going to make a TLOU3. If the HBO show continues to do well in its second season, they could always advance Ellie’s story through the show in a potential 3 season of the show, instead of making a full blown game. If the show flops, then they have the option of expanding the story through a 3rd game too. They have options it seems
They said they will only make TLOU3 if they can write a story they feel is worth telling .
Yes, let's make all the characters like Pathfinder...It is almost as though some the writers do not pay attention to the characters. She decided not kill Abby and to close the cycle she ended up alone, which was her greatest fear. It wasn't a happy ending...Let's move on and cameo Ellie while exploring new characters.
Toxicity in tlou2 killed the series. Also the tv series turned into another gay love story as the director admitted they tricked the audience into another gay drama.
Fanboys defend whatever crap given but the fact is tlou2 user metacritic is all time low for sony triple A exclusive game and the og tlou was goty and loved. Metacritic for tlou2 would be 2.7 user score if metacritic didnt delete tens of thousands reviews but kept the 10/10s. But its still very low. Just like google % for tlou2. Its not review bombing but feedback for the worst story ever told.
Tlou part 2 is insulting for the fans of the orginal game. It turned into super toxic, super edgy teenager transgender, pregnant lesbian shitshow where unlikeable char you are forced to play big part of the game torture kill the character we all loved. Its not about story of ellie and joe anymore surviving in post apocalyptic zombie scenario but its about political lgbtq+ agenda.
99% of people are normal folks who want to have a family and live a normal live who dont hate/care what trans or gay people do in their private life but forcing this kind of toxicity and narrative is insulting for the gamers.
You got it right, as you said, this is exactly what it was: "Its not about story of ellie and joe anymore surviving in post apocalyptic zombie scenario but its about political lgbtq+ agenda."
yaarrrrrr! Bust out the "banjos and fiddles" we got ours a barn dance.
Nah, just give us a new ip without the woke bullshit and catering to literally a small minority of the general populace.
There is hope, Sony has hired more writers to ND and hopefully Niel Drunkman has less influence over story direction in the future.
I'd rather a sequal with Joel from the day of the out break to the point he meets Ellie.
Part 2 was such a drag I began wanting it over 20 hours in. It was a graphic beauty but removing Joel was their down fall. Ellie is an alright character but her living on rage was boring.
It was the bond between her and Joel that made the first one great.
I think that this article didn't understand the game as it was supposed to be understood...
Nah. The Last of Us 3 should start the real star of the show, Abby. Lets go CrossFit Avenger!
Also, give it to someone that wants to be a game designer and not a wannabe movie maker. That'll do wonders for this thing.
Once Neil knows he can jump ship to Hollywood safely and leave his high paying more financial secure job at NaughtyDog behind, he will leave I reckon but Hollywood jobs are hit and miss if you haven't got a good film portfolio behind you.
Pretty much. I suspect that he saw what happened to Chris Roberts and that's not something he's willing to go through with.
Like you said, he's position right now is pretty secure and privileged. And just like with Kevin Levine and David Cage, he'll put up with the gameplay aspect as long as he can continue his movie director dream without much risk or downside.
Still, the technology and the money is there to appease both camps without the sacrifice. It's just a matter of and willingness to do it. Which obviously is not something they care to do at this point, sad to say
@SimpleSlave Right, because Naughty Dog wasn’t making movie like games before Neil started directing there. Lol
I never said that. To me Naughty Dog took a tumble when the first Uncharted came out. I'm ok with cinematic if that's what some of these movie director types want to add to their games, but gameplay need to be front and center. Sadly Uncharted and especially The Last of Us leave way too many gameplay ideas on the table in lieu of the movie they want to tell instead. This was never much of a problem in their Jack and Daxter Trilogy since in between the cinematic moments there was a ton of gameplay.
That's why I enjoy much more the modern Tomb Raider Trilogy to Uncharted. It knows how to give you a ton of gamplay even if it also wants to be all cinematic. Not perfect and not as compelling as the original Tomp Raider, but still a much more enjoyable and earnest trilogy of games when compared to Uncharted.
Player's agency needs to be front an center. I have to make the decisions to take these character down certain path not the movie spliced between the levels. You also cannot keep perpetuating this Cognitive Dissonance type of gameplay where the player does one thing but the cinematic insist in doing and saying something else. It's just absurd at this point. But if they insist in controlling every aspect, then at least give us better gameplay.
The tech is there for better game design and not just better graphics. That's all I'm saying.
Or, they could introduce another chapter with new characters, trying to survive.
TLOU was a revelation....came out of nowhere to become one of my favorites of all time. Part II I thought the gameplay and mechanics were a huge improvement, I didn't have any issue with the plot, but it didn't hit me as hard as the first one...how could it...expectations were so high. For part III I would hope Ellie finds some peace in a destroyed world. Redemption, salvation, clarity...whatever you want to call it....I root for that girl. I want heaps and gobs of violence, but at the end I want her to retire at a young age and leave the fight behind her. She's done more than her fair share.
Wow, we really still haven't learned TLOU universe is one of an unbreakable cycle of violence where nothing gets wrapped up in a neat pretty bow? None of the two games and dlc ended on a positive note, they all ended with everything in pieces and with baited breath. And you want them to top it off with a cliche Hollywood style ending? No thanks
I feel like Ellie’s story is done. Tired of all the fandom infighting too. Would like to see an entirely new cast and/or premise.
Yeah, have Ellie do the same thing as Abby, even though ALREADY consciously choosing not to because of Joel at the end of II… yeah, that is totally their direction.
I love the last of us. But it's time for a new I.P.
They have a great engine and devs and could easily produce maybe a sci-fi type affair.
But please no more body builder women, what is it with ND and that crap. Nadine beating up nate and sam was just comical asf.
Stop the woke crap. It's ruining movies everywhere. Hopefully once the last installments are done we can return to normal.
These games take too to make for me to care.
The Uncharted games 1-3 took about 8 hours to complete and about 2 years to make each (crunching for all of these)
TLou 1 is about 16 hours, released 2 years after U3.
Uncharted 4 was 15 hours, 3 later to release.
Last of Us 2 was 24 hours and released 4 years after U4 and SEVEN years after Last of Us 1.
Waiting nearly a decade for a sequel does not get me excited. They are the length of two games at this point. I'd prefer them shorter and more room for iteration and feedback, and not have to wait 7 years to see what happens next.
I think 2 finished it nicely. Ellie is kind of a dbag, they all are and have to be in that world. They all got what they deserved imo.
maybe 1 relative out of the thousands of people she killed will want revenge or something.
@Panhandler…of course you’re right bro, but don’t expect people in the gaming community to understand this. The guys fighting and dying in Ukraine should be a wake up call to the realities that men face when times get hard…
Why? Neither of the games had anything remotely happy as an ending and they were both stronger for it.
Ellie is not that interesting after part 1, the strongest traits were the ones tied to Joel and their relationship. The events of 2 were very strong but I dont think there is much to tell or interest after that.
Maybe with new characters and plot elsewhere
As much as I’d love to see a part 3 for this franchise I think it ended on a solid note my opinion, where or what would they go with Ellie? She’ll suddenly muster up the courage to go after abbey again? Or would they just go off with abbey? I think the series is ended on a solid note and going for a part 3 would be a far grab and would be hard to match and overcome what part 1&2 have brought us.
I expect nothing short of amazing next level stuff from The Last of Us Part III. I expect ND to take the detail and gameplay to the next level. Ofcourse, I know the graphics will look great.
100% on point, they should go even further and skip the game play all together and focus even more on the story since thats all playstation fans want so bad.
There should have never been a 2nd game. They painted the Mona Lisa and then tried to make a sequel. It was unnecessary and motivated by money.
SHe already HAD her damn redemption. She killed nearly ALL of ....*cant remember that buff chicks name***... umm Abbie?... She killed almost all of Abbies close friends and relatives!
Naughty Dog boss Neil Druckmann has revealed that the Uncharted franchise is finished, and TLOU3 is dependent on a "compelling story."
I'd be down for Savage Starlight. Naughty Dog making a sci fi action RPG would be interesting.
Yes savage starlight would be amazing. I know that was the rumor a couple yrs ago. Naughty dog likes to put Easter eggs in their games. There is that rumor about strays cross. I'm looking forward to a new ip, hopefully it is Sci fi related.
The clock shop in the 1st episode of the HBO series was called "lone star" I wonder if it's an Easter egg ? Bit weird a clock shop being called that imo?
What exactly are have they been working on if they’ve moved on from Uncharted and The Last of Us? I know Factions is a separate team.
Well Factions is still going by one team, the other? Who knows, I refuse to believe they've been spit balling for almost 3 years now.
I'd say Sci-Fi hopefully
All just rumor at the moment but, it is said there will be two protagonist: one being a brilliant scientist obsessed with space-time studies, the other being a "criminal" who is innocent. All of this supposedly ties into to some story about a space conflict dating back ages. Again could be just bunch of B.S. rumors, but I'd love to see what the wizards at naughty dog could do with a space themed ip
@Senor
I mean if they were gonna do GAAS that would probably be Factions, no? I don't see them making two multiplayer-focused games at the same time.
Apparently if the team was really passionate about The Last Of Us Part 3 then they'll 100% go for it. ND doesn't do things unless passion is backed by it.
Neil was writing scripts in which I thought it was for TLOUS 3. Maybe him and the team are brain storming and writing in theory what another Last Of Us could be like.
Not sure what the team is cooking up. I'll keep on the look out for rumors of course.
Rumor long time ago it was a sci-fi space action adventure i believe. Also wasnt there 2 teams at naughty dog, the last of us team who is working on the MP i guess and the other one after they done uncharted 4 and standalone forgot name.
Will be shipped to the games as a service mines next.
These quotes are very see-though. No studio wants an Uncharted/Last of Us-style experience. They, along with God of War and Ghost of Tsushima feel more like a pain in Sony execs’ asses than anything.
Just think, with this news, the ps5 version of Uncharted 4 and Legacy is the last release we are ever going to get. Uncharted won’t ever have Raytracing.
Lol Ur comment is so confusing, what are you even trying to say.
And I'd take a new ip over uncharted with ray tracing.
Uncharted had an awesome run but it's time for new ips.
Not sure what you are trying to say or if you are quoting someone else. Are you saying that g.o.t., g.o.w. and uncharted are pains in the ass for Sony execs? G.o.w. 2018 sold 20 million copies, uncharted 4 has over 15 million and g.o.t. has sold over 9.5 million copies, doesn't sound like a pain in the ass, more line a Sony execs wet dream. Lol. As far as not ever getting an uncharted game with Ray tracing, i wouldn't be so sure. Rumor is that naughty dog is partnering with a newly founded ps studio comprised of Sony visual arts studio devs (worked on last of us part 1) to reboot the franchise.
Yeah, multi-million selling games are always a pain for executives to deal with.
ND aren't even known for live service games nor will they ever be interested in doing anything like that. They're known for their story telling and gameplay. Why would they sacrifice a possible new IP that's story driven than waste it on some live service stuff?
Plus one team is doing just that already. Your life service fix is covered.
To clarity on the comment:
Yeah, the PlayStation exclusives listed are incredibly successful but that’s irrelevant because they don’t want GOTY success stories that sell 20 million copies, they want “Fortnite trailer starring Mark Hamill speaking Chinese during the Super Bowl” success.
You don’t get that every studio just wants to make mobile games. Any excuse for there to NOT be single player, they will take it. All ND are saying now is that they don’t want to make anything like their past games, and their past games are single player.
Even if they were to embrace single player, it would be an open world Genshin clone.
They’re the goals of every studio. It doesn’t matter what anyone says. Even if the market prevents them from embracing GAAS in full right away, it’s still the goal.
It doesn’t matter how many awards the previous games get, it doesn’t matter how much they sell. They don’t make EVERY CENT.
That’s the point.
Naughty Dog’s next game is a live service multiplayer game. All Neil Druckmann does is write cinematic adventures but he’s been interviewing about how he doesn’t want a “conventional” narrative in his games anymore - and it’s not because of boredom.
There are rumours of a sci-fi game possibly? Then again, Last of Us is Sci-fi too
I trust on ND to put a excellent game and will play it as long as it’s not a too deep on RPG or is a FPS( unless it’s VR FPS then I’ll try it ) for personal taste reasons on rpg and motion sickness on fps( vr fps is a bit more tolerable for my eyes tho 🤷🏿 )
They will be doing both. Part 3 as a follow up to the most awarded game in history and now in tandem with the most watched show on the planet. Part 3 is inevitable, thankfully.
A new ip is most likely in the works, as well.
Phoenixville
It's just what I wanna see. I sometimes feel we get enough medieval games, but I'm also big into Sci fi so I'm probably just a hair bias.
I think you are right. The way the sales jumped for TLOU part 1 after the show aired must have been a clear signal to Sony to not hold back.
It would be a shame that. I'd love to see what they could do with a current gen Uncharted. The character models are still among the best I've seen and that was 7 years ago
YES. Last of Us is good where it stands imo.
But even though they closed the story up pretty well with the last Uncharted, I'm not finished pretending to be Indiana Jones :-) I'm just a fan of the formula so to speak.
Tomb Raider has been ok, but nowhere near that level of quality and fun for me.
Whatever it is they have in the oven (besides factions) I'm pretty sure is gonna look fantastic.
New IP time.
They had new IP on PS2 with Jak and Daxter, new IP on PS3 with Uncharted and TLOU, those same two IP again on PS4, and by the looks of it we'll be 3 years into the PS5 with a 2013 Remake and maybe only as little as a trailer of the TLOU P2 MP mode originally planned for 2020.
Games are taking too long to make, Ragnarok took the right step in making the story fit into two games. Let TLOU end with the resolution we got in P2 and whatever needs to be told in the GaaS Factions.
interesting. i wonder what they have in the pipe right now. If they haven't even started a TLOU 3 then that means it would be years away if they decided to do it.
A sci-fi game would be cool but it definitely wouldn’t be called savage bloody starlight, lol, that’s clearly a parody name, to dumb for an actual game for a modern naughty dog.
I would have hoped they had been working on the story for last of us 3 so it could come out just before season 4 of the show, assuming the second game would account for 2 seasons of the show.
Oh well.
I'm totally down with new IP too, and definately want them to move on from Uncharted. If TLoU ends with 2 I'm still satisfied with that ending. Leaving it open to your own interpretation of where Ellie went from there.
Well...if you pretend the last of us 2 never happened you suddenly got a super compelling sequel...just dont f it up this time. And just dont let Neil touch it.
Lol..if there's a tlou3..Neil IS gonna be on the forefront. Whether he directs or not..the story will be his.
Well then....pretty sure 5here won't be a 3rd part. He's a horrible story teller. Tlou1 was barely his vision. Tlou2 was all him ...all he could come up with. Basically the walking dead revenge story
@Crow
Tlou1 was written by Neil only and directed by him and bruce. Lol. What are you even talking about?
Tlou2 had 2 writers Neil and Hailey. And directed by him and 2 others. Do your research properly. Your personal hate won't change the fact that he did a pretty good job. You liked the story or you didnt. Thats it. Oh and Episode 2 of the show was directed by Neil btw.
Last of Us 2 was better than the first game... Straight up. The hate for it is very unjustified. Just people saying general terms like, "it sucks" or "it's trash". There's never any actual reasoning behind the hate for it.
Gameplay was better, story was better, graphics were better... It was bigger, longer and took more risks than the original. Still one of the most impressive games out there.
All the pleads for Neil to stay away from The Last of Us are nonsense, he is the main creator and writer, without him there would probably never have been the first game.
But second better than the first one? First was superior in everything aside from technical aspect of the game. Much superior story - plot, writing, characters, also better level design and pacing, that's where I think the departure of Bruce Straley was felt the most. Game was relatively boring until a couple of final chapters.
Spoilers:
There are far more and bigger problems with the story than Joel's death and hulk Abby, it's her part in the story that driven hate towards her more than an actual character anyway. The problem is how the story was written and presented.
Joel and Tommy with 25 years of survival experience randomly run into an armed group in their zone while on PATROL, and completely drop their guard thinking those teens are their best friends. Ok, whatever, happens.
Then starts nonstop plot armor matching Daenerys from GoT, and everyone else in season 8. Tommy and Ellie spared for no reason, besides to show what? That we are the good guys and only wanted that piece of shit Joel? Ellie's girlfriend randomly surving a large group of people and then resquing Ellie.
Something between Tommy and Manny I also didn't like, don't remember exactly though.
Then Abby's group starts despising her after helping her find and kill Joel? What was their picture, they help her find Joel so they can sit with a cup of coffee and resolve the issue?
And the worst of all, 7-8 month prengant girl running and jumping all over? And Abby's whole group, besides herself, was made of horrible, boring characters.
There are many other issues, but I don't think there is a point in listing them all. Only last final chapters I truly enjoed, especially the last one where she finds Abby, was very well made and written.
It's not a bad game by any means, I'd still probably give it an 8, very technically advanced as expected from ND, writing still more compelling than majority of games. Fans might have also influenced the story, many asked for completely new prtogonists in the world, others wanted to see Joel and Ellie come back. Well we got both. But it's embarassing to even compare the quality of the first game to second. One is a masterpiece, that's regarded as one of the best games of all time, my personal favorite, and the other is a major step down and a disappointment.
@mocaak - just touching on your early question about Abby's motive, there's a really personal reason for that motivation... maybe you missed it in the story? The entire game is themed around revenge, it's like THE central thing, with the other smaller stories revolving around it. It was a sad and painful story, but a really good one. But you have a right to your opinion, I'm just stating mine...
@crazyCoconuts
I didn't question Abby's motive anywhere in my post. I think you misunderstood something. Are you refering to - "it's her part in the story that driven hate towards her more than an actual character anyway." If yes, I meant that hate of players revolving around Abby is mainly based solely for killing Joel, rather than on her character as a whole. And whether the story was good or not, it was poorly approached, was not well written, and vast majority of characters were bland.
Lost me at "story was better"
I understand it's a very divisive game. But come on, the story was the weakest part of TLOU2
@mocack
Well that was well written. Fox's points came across as someone with a personal beef against the writer himself and all that theory about A.hennig. couldnt take him serious.
Anyway as for your points..my thoughts are different except for one. Here's what i think:
Tommy and Joel with 25 years of experience probably never came across a girl under attack by the infected( mind you if it were humans who attacked abby, then they'd probably thing its a setup) so they see no problem saving her. They also gave her a gun, she could have shot them..but waited out. Again no problem in trusting her. And lastly they were in the heat of the moment trying to get out...so ofcourse they couldn't think straight.
Joel was the only one who killed abbys dad, they see no reason to kill the others. In the cutscene Didnt they want to kill them too? But were stopped by owen. Most of them were like tommys people anyway. Anyway abby got her revenge..and didnt want anything to do with it. Can you imagine if they killed both ellie and tommy...? Roll credits...lol. jk.
Abbys group followed abby because of her obsession in finding joel..and then after you'd see her realization that it didnt give her her peace. Anyway..i cnt remember again some parts..its been a long time now.
Yeah this i give it to you...abbys pregnant friend was i dont know wierd...in that condition running around fighting..doesnt make sense.
Anyway this is my take of what i see in the story. Neil had the balls to kill off the main protagonist from the first game in such a depressing and cruel manner. It made me hate abby and the group that i wanna kill all of them. Only by the end i actually felt sorry and understood abby(by looking from her perspective).
He directed the recent episode of the show, and the horror and tension were amazing.
Objectively, Neil is rooted more firmly within the DNA of the franchise than anyone else. Doesn't matter how you feel, that's just a fact.
He came up with the original concept years before he even started working at Naughty Dog, so thank him for it even existing. You would play as a hardened cop who had lost his daughter, had turned criminal but became a protector of a young girl from infected. The role of protector would reverse at times.
He was the sole writer on TLOU (all of the dialogue is his and clearly has a particular writing style), and he was the creative director.
The more questionable concepts you hear about (e.g. like all infected being women) were when BOTH he and Bruce were experimenting further and trying to refine the idea to try sell it to the higher ups (that version was called Mankind).
He started as a programmer on Jak 3 and developed the range to also be able to write and direct a critically acclaimed HBO show.
He's creating a large writer's room so he's already giving people what they wanted. There's nothing to complain about.
@fox
Cute. Both at 300+ awards what does that tell you.
Interesting though...40+ awards were voted by audience for Elden Ring.
Tlou2 had 100+ awards voted by audience.
Buzzfeed really? The source is the very bottom of bottom feeder “news”/entertainment tabloid sites.
A platform would be interesting. But something new and original. I don’t want Neil’s taint on Jack and Daxter ever again (killed the series thanks bro).
That's good news. I love Uncharted but it ended perfectly, why ruin that.
A new IP with the level of quality they bring will be something to get really excited about. Agree with others that sci-fi would be cool.
I'm totally fine with them leaving those two stories behind. I feel they have been wrapped up nicely.
I'm sure whatever new IP they make will get wildly misrepresented and hated on prior to launch, then it will be awesome anyway.
Well, now is hard to unfk the story after part II featuring Abby steroids boring story. Abby steroids adventure should have been a DLC nothing more.
I doubt they will ever make anything as good as the uncharted series and The Last of Us in the future.
My money is on a timetraveling space game. In this game time space gets messed up so the crew visits places from past ND games. This will alter past games and erase the happenings of TLOU2 and set up a 3rd game.
If there is going to be a TLOU3 it needs to be without Druckman's influence, TLOU2 remains a dumpster fire. But to be honest, I don't think they'll hit the highs they did with the first TLOU and the Uncharted games. How they reacted when fans criticised TLOU2 soured me against Naughty Dog to the point where I'll never buy any of their games.
wow....they're learning!
Mind you, they're so full of it who knows what's true and what's not.
I won't lie and say I'm not bummed out over ditching UC (and potentially TLOU), but I'm also excited to see what new IP they come up with.
Uncharted 2 was IMO the pinnacle of the franchise. 3 and 4 were excellent games but at this point, it doesn't really feel like there needs to be another game at this point. Maybe in 5 years, but for now, let Naughty Dog move on to a new IP and create another great franchise.
About time I'd love to see what else they can do. Come back to last of us maybe in 10 years or so with Ellie as an adult. Maybe she has a kid of her own she adopted. With uncharted it will be his daughter probably next Gen. But I'm glad naughty dog will branch out.
Then give the Uncharted I.P to another team. There's plenty to do in that universe.
"has concept"
they should damn well be nearing release
on something, ...anything?
"I mentioned we have written a story that takes place after Last of Us II that stars Tommy"
Ha. What?
You mean the character who now suffers permanent injuries? He's lost an eye, mobility and struggles to now walk which is why he asks Ellie to go in his place to track Abby down.
I understand a prequel but I don't see how they could even do a sequel after what's happened to him, especially in this harsh Universe where there's no good medicine or physiotherapy.
ooh nice .... but I'd rather see a new IP first from ND using an updated engine for this new generation.
for PS1 they created Crash Bandicoot
For PS2 it was Jak and Daxter
For PS3 we got Uncharted
For PS4, lets say it was Last of Us
For PS5 they need to do something new.
Said he doesnt have a story just a concept meaning its not even nearly being developed or confirmed with a green light to move forward. As well as he working on something different at the moment.
I’m guessing the heavily rumored new IP comes out first.
TLOU3 could be in production it could be just a concept. Devs are very coy before games are officially announced for obvious reasons. Either way I’ll definitely buy the third game.
