Well it kinda fits, historically Sphinxes have always been male for a while, and there whole deal is riddles, paradoxes, confusion, sorta trickster attitude. Wasn't for a few hundred years that female Sphinxes began appearing in art which kinda added to its nature of ambiguity. So this is just trying to take all of that and condense it into one character.
