Ampere Analysis Says Nintendo Has Shifted 16.4 Million Switch Consoles In 2023

My Nintendo News writes: " Ampere Analysis has stated in a recent article by the Financial Times that Nintendo has shifted an estimated 16.4 million units worldwide in 2023. The figure is down eighteen percent year over year; however, the analytical group has noted that it’s widely expected that a successor will be announced next year. Sony’s PlayStation 5 sold the most number of units worldwide this year at 22.5 million, while Microsoft’s Xbox Series X|S came in third with a 7.6 million estimate."

Sony is No. 1 in 2023 (up 65%). :)

Ampere Analysis also tracks xbox total sales at 21m significantly less than vgchartz.

So it's quite possible that PlayStation sold more consoles in 2023 than xbox has sold so far this generation.

that would not be surprising. MS doesn't really do much in the way of marketing the series platform. they just sort of put it out there and say you can buy one or not, it does not matter because either way you can still play the games on your phone, tablet, smart tv, or older game console thanks to xcloud streaming.

Such mixed messaging really throws off even the die hard fans. The hardware is good. The games are good. Their messaging... not so much.

VGChartz got busted back in November 2018 reporting over 4 MILLION units for xbone. They got caught when AMD released their official chip numbers sold to each individual platform but guess what, VG never ''adjusted'' their ''estimates'' and none of the main ''journos'' and gaming sites talked about it and brush it under the rug like nothing happened, only a handful of outlets reported the VGChartz BS. So in other words, always substract 3 or so mil for xbox and add 1-2 mil for PS to get a more accurate number(s).

@Darth

Oh really? We're going to pretend Xbox doesn't advertise their system is the issue now? Lol. Just like all the huge advertising campaigns didn't help Xbox One either.

Let's stop with the excuses now. Marketing/Advertising is NOT the issue

"MS doesn't really do much in the way of marketing the series platform."

You can't really believe that...

As for the hardware, another thing that isn't reported is the stutter SX has when games use high quality textures and the SSD simply can't load the data fast enough.

Here is dead island 2 but I want to note, and this indicates a larger issue is that they altered this video to remove two scenes that showed serious issues on SX with the particle effects, one scene involved them throwing a lightning grenade into a pool that dropped the fps to 0 for then another scene where again they used a fire molotov that also dropped the frame rate to zero.

This was all the videos I couldn't be bothered to sift through after I realized they altered the Dead Island 2 video but it was also an issue in Jedi Survivor and Alan Wake but in the Alan Wake 2 video they didn't even cover it which I guess is because they were mad they only got sent a pre-release PlayStation copy of the game (which they complain about in the first playstation video they did) then they made the xbox playstation comparison video where they tried to make the playstation version look as bad as possible, so I guess they didn't want to show the xbox stutter.

vgchartz has been known for overtracking every xbox console. Pretty sure one of the numbers/admins is pro xbox, or at least was in the past.

not surprised, they had the new zelda game this year.
22 million for sony is still insane to me. this year has definitely been very good for them

Aloymetal140d ago

By the end of this gen will be 4 to 1.

Switch doing 16m+ is surprising. I was expecting to see it below 15m by now. Not sure it has enough left in the tank for one more year, but it has done a hell of a job in the time its been here.

Chevalier140d ago (Edited 140d ago )

Switch released a huge Zelda, New Mario, New Fire Emblem, New Kirby, Metroid Remaster, Mario RPG Remake, New Detective Pikachu and New Bayonetta game this year. It's like making and releasing a bunch of new games make people want to buy the system or something.

Make and release a bunch of games turns into console sales. This isn't rocket science here.

badz149139d ago

It's not surprising at all considering all their releases this year

Kneetos139d ago (Edited 139d ago )

I'm predicting 140 to 142 million sales lifetime for the switch
What a ride it's been for the console... Curious to see if the next console will hit the ground running or will Nintendo, ninten DOH- it

I really enjoyed Good Job game...too bad that they are closing

mastershredder3d ago

Considering the level of games they made, I'm surprised that more than 2 people worked there. 45 people (+ outsourcing) making mediocre mobile games, like cut the rope. I mean dude....Nintendo stooped to new lows in quality development and entertainment standards.
