Review - The condition NHL 24 is in right now makes it feel like a beta test for a full release that is months off; extremely disappointing.
Again same shit different year.
I think there are a lot of gamers who don’t particularly care about NHL as in the licenses and everything, but just want the old-skool top-down gameplay that the classic 16-bit NHL games had.
So many of my friends never watched ice-hockey on TV, we didn’t know any of the big players back then (apart from Gretzky, I guess), but we played and loved these games on Genesis/SNES, simply because the gameplay was there; easy to pick up, difficult to master, and it just becomes one of those perfect little sports-games. Like Sensible Soccer, Rocket League, etc.
I think if a talented indie-dev picks up this premise of old-school NHL, doesn’t need licenses, but just needs the gameplay, and nice presentation, it could/would be a huge hit.
How are they just discovering this now? Why aren't they sitting down and saying: "Alright, we've been doing the same crap every year. We've giving them incremental upgrades and charging $80/yr. Don't you think it's finally time to say: 'what makes hockey, hockey' and finally build up and full fleshed game that's hockey? I almost feel like sports games at this point should be given the Destiny 2 treatment. Where gamers are given just a little more every year instead of a new game, it feels like they need to be going free 2 play. If you wanna distribute your bull crap loot boxes under the guise of a pack of cards...... Whatever, but I think it's time to start going free 2 play with sports games. No model these days fits sports games better than the free 2 play. It's time. Either that, or start letting some competition back in the ring. Let Visual Concepts and Sony San Diego back in the game. This incremental yearly upgrades at the cost of a new PS5 game or $10 less for the PS4 version when you can't buy the PS5 version and play it on the PS4, that's stupid! We're in the digital era, morons! How are gamers still okay with this? With a simple 2GB software update, you have the newest version of the game but you're paying $59.99 (PS4) and $69.99 (PS5) minimum for a minor upgrade, that's pretty lame
