Gaming has been a drag ever since the pandemic. This generation has just not been that exciting at all imo.

Lightning77279d ago

Y'all sound ungrateful. What other announcements are you looking forward to? Besides I rather not hear of another announcements only to see a teaser trailer then not hear from it for a few years. Everything that's releasing was announced in the past few years now people seem to forget that.

I like announcements as much as the next guy but sometimes we just need updates on these games. Gameplay, previews, release dates. You know the actual important stuff.

seanpitt23278d ago

Basically saying there is no new games to show at this pretty big gaming event

MrBaskerville279d ago

I know everyone thinks everything is shit, but still how often do we get a year with this many huge critically acclaimed AAA games (some of the unreleased ones could fail, but probably won't)?

Tears of the Kingdom
Baldurs Gate III
Spiderman 2
Starfield
Armored Core VI
Dead Space Remake
Hogwarts
Re4 Remake
Forza 8
Final Fantasy XVI
Mario Wonder
Stalker 2
Alan Wake 2
Diablo 4

Then therea stuff like
Wu long
Atomic Heart
Lies of P
Octopath 2
Fire Emblem
Advance Wars
Pikmin 4
Jedi Survivor
System Shock Remake
Mortal Kombat 1
AC mirage
Super mario Rpg

But yeah, truly one of the worst years in gaming history. There are only shitty games! Haven't been a good game since 2007.

notachance279d ago

don't forget Street Fighter 6!
it's got some neat RPG-ish open world story mode.

I rarely played fighting games, I think the last game I played was that super smash bros on switch when it first came out, but even someone like me got quite invested on SF6 story mode.

Flawlessmic279d ago

Agreed mate 2023 has been absolutely stackeddddddd!! Especially If you own all platforms!!

piroh279d ago

What about Ride 5 and Crew Motorfest?

Ashunderfire86279d ago

That what I am saying, and it’s overwhelming of the amount of games coming! Most of us wouldn’t be able to finish all these games this year! Some people will finish them into January or February 2024, by that time we gonna see Final Fantasy Rebirth, Phantom Zero among other games!

MrBaskerville279d ago

@Piroh
That's the thing, we can keep going all day.

stupidusername278d ago (Edited 278d ago )

Not to mention Hi Fi Rush that came out of nowhere. And Remnant 2 scored very high as well.

This year is wild. I stick to playing one game at a time so I’m sure I’m finishing game before I move on to the next.
I’ve mainly played Hogwarts Hi Fi Rush and Zelda. And now I’m playing FF XVI. But I’ve already bought Diablo 4, Baldurs Gate 3, Jedi Survivor and RE4 which I am equally hyped to play. And then adding Starfield, Spider Man 2, Mirage, Mario RPG and Pikmin 4 to the mix I can’t see myself finishing all these games until way into 2024.

Ashunderfire86279d ago

A drag lol 😆 did you see all the games this year? Holy cow!!! Banger after banger every month! This is quite literally the biggest year of gaming ever! Nothing before can compare to what we are getting in the next 2 months of gaming! A historic October to remember! And for one most of the games are meeting their target release date, and not a delay in site! Stalker 2 might actually meet its target release date even though that could slip into 2024. An that game will be on Gamescom.

anast279d ago (Edited 279d ago )

How many games need to be released in a year to not be a drag? The PS5 has around 12 exclusive, or more, games that is and the numerous 3rd party releases which add up to multiple games a month.

Adrian_v01278d ago

It's not about quantity buy quality

Profchaos279d ago

I don't really blame the pandemic I blame the belief that every Gabe needs to be bigger that's trending.

In the last 13 years we had big games like GTA IV on the horizon these had at the time whooping 5 year dev cycles but there were still so many small scope games coming out constantly that didn't try to have the best graphics and push boundaries of technology and storytelling they were just fun.

Today I feel like devs forgot that small scale games exist can be produced in a year and be a ton of fun.

I feel like the 6th gen was the golden era for me GTA vice city was made in 1 year and became a all time classic I had more games in that generation than I could ever finish nowadays that practice is impossible

MrBaskerville279d ago

But there's tons of smaller games that takes less time to develop. Small scale games are thriving these days.

GoodGuy09279d ago (Edited 279d ago )

I'm surprised many agree. This thoughts been in my mind after maybe a year of current gen. The pandemic definitely had a huge impact, I still wish they delayed the consoles.
Sure we've gotten a good number of games but we haven't really had much that are fully made for current gen only that just isn't possible on last gen. And on top of that, current gen consoles have been a bit disappointing in terms of visuals and framerates with 3rd party (which ofc is mostly the devs to blame for).
We've gotten so many broken releases and a huge number we've been waiting for are still years from release and/or we know barely anything about.

MrBaskerville279d ago (Edited 279d ago )

Thing is, you' ll probably never really get a significant jump again. Diminishing returns and all that.

The big stuff is things like vastly reduced loadtimes and such. Other things is gonna feel less significant, even though we've moved quite far. Because it's really just refinement at this point. We got big open worlds, we got 3d and polygons, we got dynamic lighting. The days of snes to psx or psx to ps2 are over.

FPS_D3TH279d ago

There’s been a ton of heavy hitters this year and coming up. Maybe you’re getting bored of your hobby or should try different games

jznrpg279d ago

I don’t have time for all of the games that come out. Playing Remnant 2 before Armored Core 6

RaidenBlack280d ago

Updates from Alan Wake II, Wukong, STALKER are more than enough ...
Pretty sure updates from Starfield, Spider-Man 2, Fort Solis, MWIII will be there as well

MrBaskerville279d ago

If we get a date for Stalker 2, that's all I need. Hoping for december, then it'll ptobably be out on ps5 around summer.

MrBaskerville279d ago

Wondering if downvote is because I'm excited for Stalker 2 release date or because I'm hoping for a ps5 release or both.

jambola280d ago

obviously just lowering expectations to blow us away
we should all expect the most and then complain when it doesn't do that

Lightning77280d ago (Edited 280d ago )

There's been quite a bit announced sense SFG and individual shows from AAA publishers.

Alan Wake 2 has been that game that's alluded us for years well over 10 years now. It's finally releasing this year. Wukong was a sensation over night when they showed that off a few years ago then went dark for a while now they're ready to talk more about it. MGS3 remake has been rumored forever and releasing and Stalker 2 kept getting delayed plus games like Dragon Dogma 2 finally getting announced.

Plus more AAA drops than we've seen in awhile. We need to be grateful and stop asking for more and more announcements. It's a vicious cycle. Said game gets announced, then goes dark for 2 years or more than then we wonder where said game is. It's fine if we don't get announcements but updates on games that we as gamers have been clamoring for. I'm excited to See Wukong I been anticipating that game ever since they showed it off. We need to be grateful for what we're getting and stop clamoring for that next unknown announcement that goes dark and forgotten about then keep asking for more and more announcements.

Mr_cheese279d ago

Would love for og E3 to be back. Best gaming event date of the year by far.

The excitement, the announcements, the drama, the aftermath. Just a perfect storm of gaming hype.

It's not the same now that everything is split up into individual events spread out throughout the year. It misses that direct show to show competition to take the E3 "crown" and has massively shifted the marketing strategy to a far more relaxed one

anast279d ago

I agree. Remove the influencers, celebrities, and parasitic journos, and make it all about games and gamers.

Black Myth: Wukong Will Reportedly Offer New Game Plus At Launch, Features Over 80 Boss Fights

savedsynner3h ago

IIRC I think the game is mostly boss fights, like a boss rush mode or Shadow of the Colossus. I would imagine From could do 80 boss fights in a souls game if 90% of the enemies were bosses lol.

gold_drake22h ago

huh.

for some reason, i thought it was out already haha

anast10h ago

You might be thinking about "Wo Long Fallen Dynasty".

potatoseal15h ago

Wow. This is really shaping up to be a special game. Hope that turns out to be true

TheProfessional9h ago(Edited 9h ago)

Happy this isn't vaporware! That is a lot of bosses though I wonder if some are randomly generated?

rpvenom6h ago(Edited 6h ago)

It won't be randomly generated. A lot of it is based on chinese mythology.

They probably reduced the cannon fodder enemies and mini-bosses to hit 80+ bosses.. is my assumption.. but I really hope I'm wrong and we get a action rpg masterpiece. Been anticipating this game for a long time.

No Steam And Physical Release, Alan Wake 2 Not Profiting Was Inevitable

Choosing Epic over Steam and antagonizing the entire physical media fanbase, it's no wonder the masterpiece Alan Wake 2 didn't make a profit.

thorstein4d ago (Edited 4d ago )

I asked for this game as a gift. My wife couldn't find it at Gamestop, Amazon, or anywhere else.

I didn't realize it was digital only, I just figured it sold out because of the reviews and how good it looks.

Most consumers don't read gaming news daily, how would they know it's digital only?

Plus, outside of seeing it on Jackfrags YouTube channel, I hadn't seen much in the way of marketing.

Dirtnapstor4d ago

It's a really good game. I platted this one on the PS5. Well worth your time exploring this universe.

Jingsing4d ago

Unfortunately Remedy has become a bit of a nasty studio over this past decade, You just need to look at their business decisions and other projects they attempted. They are not pro consumer at all.

Petebloodyonion4d ago

You know that it's Epic Games that funded and published the game right?

CrimsonWing694d ago (Edited 4d ago )

Yea, people are kind of dumb. I mean, no offense to @Jingsing up there, I know that’s blunt but it reminds me of Bayonetta 2 when that got announced and it was a Nintendo exclusive. It’s exclusive because f*cking Nintendo funded the development. But people were all like f*ck Sega for sh*tting on their fans when in actuality the game never would’ve gotten made if Nintendo didn’t straight up pay for the development.

Alan Wake 1 was not a massive seller. In fact, correct me if I’m wrong, but it underperformed and that’s why a proper sequel never got made until now where Epic literally paid for the game to be developed… but you got people saying, Remedy isn’t pro consumer because this game is Epic exclusive 🤦‍♂️

anast4d ago

They did this to save money, but it didn't work.

Skuletor4d ago

Will be interesting to see if they try the same thing for the Max Payne remake(s). You'd think they won't but people continue to surprise me.

anast4d ago

I think they could do some kind of special edition physical release. This way the crowd that has been with this game since the beginning would have the option to buy a physical disk. They would sell more too.

Charlieboy3334d ago

@anast No, it needs a normal physical release.....not some bullshit 'special edition' physical release. This way we will be able to easily get a physical copy for if we want, instead of having to mission to own some kind of limited version. That's not actually gonna boost physical sales now is it?

Chocoburger4d ago

I wonder if they've learned their lesson? Who am I kidding, of course no gaming company does at this point. Keep making those mistakes.

Alan Wake 2 Still Hasn't Earned Back Its Budget

Remedy has released its financial statement for the first quarter of 2024, and despite strong sales, Alan Wake 2 has yet to recoup its development costs.

Well. They know what they gotta do…

toxic-inferno22d ago

Exactly.

With every article like this, I becomr more convinced that an announcement is inevitable. Hoping for something around the time of the game's 1-year anniversary.

-Foxtrot22d ago

I want to believe they are just hanging on to try and get the last drop out of the digital market but another part of me thinks it’s just spite at this point, not wanting to admit their business move was a f***** terrible decision

They made out it was because they wanted to offer it cheaper to us but me and others would have gladly paid the standard for physical. Even a collectors edition would have been nice to buy.

toxic-inferno22d ago

Absolutely. What would the harm have been? Offer the digital version at the lower price they want, and a "Collector's Edition" with some fairly naff additions for 50% more. I'd have gone for it without question.

Cacabunga22d ago

physical release or go home Remedy.

_Decadent_Descent22d ago

Bringing it to Steam would definitely help too. Although I suspect getting a physical release is probably more likely, and even that doesn't look good.

neutralgamer199222d ago

Waiting on steam release otherwise no buy. And I would double dip to get physical for ps5 or XSX but remedy have to first admit there is a problem before a solution is made available

darthv7222d ago

i think its an Epic game though.... does Epic release games on Steam?

notachance21d ago

definitely waiting for steam version, I never buy a game on another storefront at all.. even gamepass games I'd just try for a bit then buy the steam version if I like it.

Yui_Suzumiya21d ago

Yeah, I'm waiting on a Steam version as well.

wesnytsfs21d ago

Not sure at this point a physical release makes sense. Would you even recoup enough lost money on the costs to get the game released physically. Mots who wanted to play the game did not sure you would sell enough copies to recoup the costs to get the game out physically.

babadivad21d ago

IMHO, it just wasn't that good. It's not as good as QB or Control.

TheEroica21d ago

Exclusive games.... The cancer of modern gaming. Only corporate friendly husks root for exclusive games as a model.

seanpitt2321d ago

What were they expecting.. release digital only and make there money back, come on! they shot themselves in the foot alienating all the fans of physical media.. now the hype has gone down it will be difficult to shift copies now even if they do release disks. Only way of making extra $ release on ps plus

wesnytsfs21d ago

Blows my mind someone would pass on obtaining a game they wanted to play just so you can have the case and a game disc that is already out of date to the current live version. The boxes upon boxes and totes full of game and game related accs and hardware when I moved made me grateful for all the digital stuff I had.

+ Show (2) more repliesLast reply 21d ago
darthv7222d ago

I bet it would if they just pressed a few discs and sold them at retail.

monkey60222d ago

I still haven't bought it. Would have if it was physical though

TheProfessional21d ago

Alan Wake 2 is also just not that good. Its the sequel to a good but not great game to begin with and the case board "gameplay" was terrible and there wasn't enough combat. Also the live action stuff looks really cheap and Sam Lake didn't need to put himself into alan wake 2 for no reason.

shinoff218322d ago (Edited 22d ago )

Lol. I imagine there's still alot of people that buy physicals. Or atleast see what kind of new games are out by what they see in real stores. This is on them. Idda paid 70 day one physical. Now I won't pay more then 15 for it

Crows9022d ago

You don't have to imagine
...still at least 40% of sales come from physical.

Amplitude21d ago (Edited 21d ago )

I'd imagine significantly more than 40% of PC gamers also only buy games on Steam.
Maybe a crazy remastered Steam release will launch alongside the RTX 6070 or something once the Epic Store's gone for good. EGS is basically a Fortnite launcher that also sells games with an unreasonably amount of missing features. Alan Wake and Fortnite have absolutely nothing in common either. I can't imagine this sold well and there's no way Epic would ever fund something this big ever again. Basically though; when Fort dies, EGS dies and I hope a Steam release will come after so this game can get the audience it deserves.

I bought a 360 for AW1 and have been waiting years to play AW2 but I just haven't had the ability to buy it yet. I was gonna "steal" it but I just felt too terrible about it half way through the intro. I've since just stopped caring. I'm patient

Good-Smurf22d ago

This game and Sonic Dream Team needs physical release fast.
