Brings back those good N64 days.

Ashunderfire86299d ago

Wow I remember those days with my brothers 🥲 playing 4 player death match! It was that game, Goldeneye, and Perfect Dark! Had so much fun with those games man. Online play is just not the same, even with more players. Quake 2 was the best on N64 and even Quake 1 where my brother and I would get the monsters to fight each other 🤣🤣🤣 29315; I always wanted the Ogre to win against the darn Fiend.

mjchitown299d ago

gonna act like this only coming to playstation systems and not switch xbox and pc huh

MadLad299d ago (Edited 299d ago )

It's a Playstation oriented site so, really, they're not being disingenuous. They're covering the PlayStation releases. The use of "targeting" is a bit misleading; they still should tag all the platforms it's coming to.

__SteakDeck__299d ago (Edited 299d ago )

@mjchitown WTH are you talking about? This was announced as coming to Xbox GP first, now there is confirmation that PS versions are coming. N4G didn’t report this. It was Push Square, which btw is a PlayStation oriented site. Just like the Xbox oriented site Pure Xbox, only mentioned it coming to Xbox GP and didn’t mention PS5 and PC. Please learn how to read.

sadraiden298d ago

You know...you can just buy quake 2 for pc right?

InUrFoxHole298d ago

Yeah it's disingenuous of them but it's the same the other way around.

Profchaos299d ago

I'd actually be more impressed if they re released the PS1 classic version and the n64 version both were bespoke unique versions and a great reminder of how different systems got entirely different versions of games back in The day

MadLad299d ago

There's probably nothing stopping them if they really wanted to. They should. When they rereleased Doom 64 for modern platforms that was a huge win for fans of the series. They could do the same here.

I hope the rumors of a new Quake are true.

Wait, why aren't MS telling Activision to take this game away from PS, you know the whole narrative on why they are purchasing them.

__SteakDeck__299d ago (Edited 299d ago )

Don’t be dumb. MS isn’t taking legacy games that were on other systems before. We know this. That’s one of the things that they meant by “case by case basis”. Only new games will be exclusive. For example, the new rumored Quake reboot will be exclusive. Stop trying to stir things. Lol

thesoftware730299d ago

Why I gotta be dumb tho..lol.

Yeah, case by case basis, you have no idea if all new games will be exclusive. That is kinda what I was getting at. The PS-Only fans, don't differentiate, case in point, jznrpg...his comment would indicate, had the deal been closed already, the game would be Xbox exclusive.

The narrative is "taking games away from PS"...period.

And hey, if you are talking about stirring things up, there is a lot of heavy offenders you need to go check....but you won't lol. I'm just having a bit of fun brother, not my usual MO.

jznrpg299d ago

MS doesn’t own ABK the deal was delayed until October

MrBaskerville299d ago

I'm glad, was convinced that Phil Spencer would make it exclusive after his comments where he said all Bethesda stuff would be exclusive

raWfodog298d ago

He was referring to new IPs going forward. Legacy software will likely remain multiplatform.

__SteakDeck__298d ago

Not just new IP but new games in general. Hellblade 1 and Outer Worlds 1 were on PS but the sequels won’t be. You can bet that the new rumored Quake reboot will be exclusive.

MrBaskerville298d ago

That's good, that might mean that we'll also get the inevitable Heretic and Hexen remasters on ps and Switch.

Quake 2 (PS5) Review - Only The Strogg Survive | Cultured Vultures

A brilliant standard setter for remasters and re-releases going forward, Quake 2 feels like a love letter to one of the grandfathers of boomer shooters.

Quake II (2023) Review -- Gamerhub UK

Remasters don't get much better than this. Kudos, Nightdive Studios!

THIS is a remaster. In every way possible. But more importantly in the place that matter most, the gameplay department. The controls feel so much better than the original and it lets the game shine in ways it never did. The shooting is more responsive and the movement much tighter. It also tone down the sliding feeling and the weird Mouse look movement. It just works.

I played the QuakePro mod and while it did good things I found the original gameplay was still quite cumbersome. Not anymore bay bay. This things is near perfect.

NOW I can see why some consider this game better than Quake 1. NOW I see it.

...And it might just be.

Richhard1289d ago

It’s alright. Nothing spectacular

fsfsxii289d ago

Sick ass game fr
No battle pass, no skill trees, just your gun and your strafing ability. Pure gaming fun.

Review - Quake II Remaster (PC) | WayTooManyGames

WTMG's Leo Faria: "This is possibly the best remastering effort by Nightdive I have ever seen. This isn’t just “a means to play Quake II on modern platforms”. Just like how a remaster should be, it is the ultimate way to play Quake II, the one version to rule above any other, the port that makes every single previously released iteration feel like unplayable garbage as a comparison. Add in the content previously available on the Nintendo 64 version, a brand new campaign by the makers of the new Wolfenstein games, and addictive multiplayer matches, and all for less than ten bucks? This is a no-brainer. This is. Go forth, retro shooter fans, this is the comfort food you’ve been waiting for."
