they be having a fire sale... making way for the new redesign coming soon. I believe the new 'slim' will look no different from the existing disc/digital but it will utilize their one board design under the plates. No more having two boards (one for each). They can crank out the one board and ship them off to be turned into disc units as well as digital ones. Only difference will be the optical drive will now be USB C and slot into the disc models. And anyone who buys the optical drive by itself can turn their digital into a disc unit by replacing the side panel with the appropriate one to fit the disc drive.

Pretty neat way to keep the use of the existing side panels... new spider-man ones included.

I don't think they will be selling a disc edition after this. All PS5s will be digital PS5 and as you said, you will be able to get a disc if you want one.

This will allow them to debut a Slim $349 console.

This makes sense. Was asking myself what about the side panels and why are Spider-Man 2 units launching based on the current design if the slim is close. It’s pretty apparent this is a clearance sale for the redesigned units.

How very pro consumer of Sony to cut down the price of a console they know will sell regardless despite anti consumer price hike due to economic conditions and it was still selling anyway.

Christopher298d ago

It's a sale in the U.S. where the price hasn't been increased, though?

Outside_ofthe_Box298d ago

"Sony has just launched a PS5 sale across regions including the UK, Ireland, Germany and India, with deals bringing the PlayStation 5 Standard Console down to £404.99 from £479.99 (in the UK)."

This is from the article

Christopher298d ago

Ah, missed that.. But, the new price is lower than the old price and that's still bad? Still saving £40 from original pricing. Must be bad?

Aloymetal298d ago

High, low...It doesn't matter, still gonna sell like hotcakes.

Believe zuby_tech on twitter predicted this a week ago.

He also has a list of every PS5 Sony studios games in development. Its VERY interesting.

I imagine this is to get rid of current stock before the new PS5 model with detectable drive comes out ?

The VR version might be too scary

DaleCooper31m ago

That's the problem I have. I love VR, but VR horror games are difficult for me to get through.
