Why 2023 Will Be PS5's Biggest and Best Year Yet

Let’s not beat around the bush: PlayStation has been weird recently. While it’s not the end of the world – the Japanese giant’s still found impressive success in unprecedented circumstances – it’s clear that the aftermath of the pandemic has rocked the PS5’s first few years.

There's quite a disconnect between the headline and content here... It's the biggest and best year ever, but they've only announced 2 games, one of which won't arrive in 2023?

Okay... so based on the information we have today, it's not bigger or better than 2022 was, or even 2021 for that matter.

VersusDMC514d ago (Edited 514d ago )

Spider Man 2, FFXVI, Forespoken, Stellar Blade are the big ones that have been announced for 2023. 4 games. Horizon DLC. And a bunch of exclusive indies like Stray will be sprinkled around the year as well.

What is this 2 games nonsense?

blackblades514d ago

And vr2 to add and its games

Knushwood Butt514d ago

^

PSVR2 doesn't count, because, just make up whatever first comes to mind.

blackblades514d ago

Vr2 does count its a PlayStation vr2 PLAYSTATION let me repeat it again PLAYSTATION. That goes on with the ps5, not my our problem Xbox dont wanna commit to a handheld or VR I unserstand they struggling with just series set

shinoff2183514d ago

Don't forget ff16( huge release not for me though since they went action ) and a few others

For me, the only PS things in 23 that have my attention are Spider-Man 2 and VR2.

I dont mind as 22 was a banger year for PS and now 23 looks to be a banger year for XB. It feels good to play both sides

S2Killinit514d ago (Edited 514d ago )

Lets be honest here, you are only xbox and everyone here knows it. Your sly pro xbox comments dont fool anyone just fyi

Playstation 2023 will be amazing just like every year in every generation they keep knocking it out of the park. Whether you and Orchard like it or not.

S2Killinit514d ago

PSVR2 launch and launch games ALONE kick competition’s butt.

Not to mention that with Playstation, every year just keeps getting better. Its just the way it is and has been for 5 generations.

SullysCigar514d ago

EVERY SINGLE VR game on PlayStation is console exclusive and has been for 6 years.

This never gets mentioned when comparing to Xbox though, because of reasons and stuff that probably makes for a REALLY compelling argument, but nobody has thought of yet. And stuff. 😬

Christopher515d ago

Not likely. They would have to announce and release in the same year some pretty heavy hitters to do that. Right now, it's Spider-Man 2 and...?

And that's not me saying that, that's Sony: https://blog.playstation.co...

SullysCigar515d ago

For me, the PSVR2 is enough on its own.

Granted, I haven't played it yet - and I get VR isn't everyone's bag - but the specs, the press response and the games have me more excited for this year than any prior for PS5.

This is a new generation for VR. Who doesn't like a new generation - especially when it's not held back by the previous one!

Add in Spider-Man 2, Horizon Burning Sands and, presumably, TLOU Factions and it's already not looking too bad for my tastes.

Elda514d ago

Most PS4 owners don't own PSVR & I'm quite sure it'll be the same for PS5 owners. I among others are looking forward to announcements of PS AAA first-party exclusives.

SullysCigar514d ago

^ What's your point @Elda? MOST people don't play games at all. There's an equally pointless statement.

Glad to hear you're looking forward to Horizon Call of the Mountain though - me too!

Lightning77515d ago

Though it's not 1st party you can also mention Forspoken and FF16.

VersusDMC514d ago

There's 3 exclusives in that article.

Why are we bitching about Square games being exclusive to Sony(Forespoken and FFXVI) in another article and then forget about those games in this article when we want to say Sony doesn't really have that many exclusives in 2023?

shinoff2183514d ago

I'd still like to have fallout on ps. Sh I'd give away this new final fantasy for it. Ever since 12 forward I just don't care for them. If they could git the magic they had with ff6 through ff9 with a budget these days it would be awesome. Nope they just turned it into a westernized action game. Meanwhile the head of square says Japanese developers shouldn't try to copy western games. Their the biggest hypocrites. I do love some of the smaller games square has put out. I am setsuna. Dragon quest 11 was a bigger release and one of the best jrpgs I've played in 15 20 years

Christopher514d ago

They're only console exclusive, PC gamers get them as well.

S2Killinit514d ago

@Christopher
That would rule out all xbox exclusives.

Christopher512d ago

@S2Killinit

1. That's a decision Microsoft made.

2. This conversation wasn't about just PlayStation and Xbox but about Sony in the industry, that includes PC.

3. Those exclusives are third party, not owned by Sony, and don't generate money for them with sales on PC like it is with Xbox games. So every PC game sale is still a loss of a sale for PlayStation.

Forspoken, FF16 and Spider-Man 2 is the line up as far as we know. I'm curious if Sony will actually attend E3 2023. It'll be 4 years since they attended and they didn't hold a PS showcase this year. I think it would be great if Sony showed up this year if not then hopefully theyll do a PS showcase at around E3 similar to what they did last year with State Of Play.

Either way I'm not worried about Sony The least bit imo they deliver regardless and always will.

jznrpg514d ago (Edited 514d ago )

It doesn’t need to be best year ever or some headline like that . Another year like this last year I will be happy .

We know they have a lot of games in the making and I’m positive at least a few are getting close to being finished but they are holding their cards as tight as they can against their chest .

Can it be the best year of PS5 ? Sure
Will it be ? Don’t know yet they have been withholding info for the longest time than ever before .

Either way I’m not concerned as they have delivered for as long as I’ve owned PS .

FF16 , SpiderMan 2 , Forspoken , PSVR2 is what we know and multiplats . I do think they will throw in a couple more exclusive games next year at least.

Elda514d ago

Personally I would like to know what PS first-party exclusives are releasing in 2023 that I'll be able to play on my PS5. Sony PS usually lets the gaming community know what to look forward to in the next year when it comes to their first-party exclusives & the only thing that's really been announced is HFW dlc,PSVR2 & a fall release of Spiderman 2.

shinoff2183514d ago

Both companies have done this i also bet all those Xbox games these guys going on about don't make it this year either. It takes time and things like covid didn't do anyone any favors. A big title like gow and stuff like that takes a few years to finish.

StarkR3ality514d ago

I think Xbox will have more 1st party games coming out than Sony next year. From that they have announced and there's rumoured to be a show in January showing what's coming. Whether the quality will be the same is a different question of course.

That being said Xbox needs a big big year in 2023, they're in danger of losing even the most die hard of their fans if they don't.

I'm expecting Starfield, Stalker 2, Forza, Redfall, HellBlade 2 and one of either Avowed or Fable. They need a kind of year to make it up to their fans.
