Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s release feels like the Switch is teetering on the cusp of a piracy problem

From VG247: "It’s been possible to play Nintendo Switch games on devices that aren’t the Nintendo Switch for a while now. This is nothing new. But, over the last couple of weeks, I really feel like I’ve sensed a shift in the scale of the conversation – and though it’s anecdotal, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 feels like a sea change.

To explain what I mean, let me give you a little bit of website inside baseball. As you’ve probably noticed, game guides are a major part of the business model for outlets like VG247. What guides we produce are determined by two key factors.

The first is intuition – we play the game and figure out what we feel people are going to get stuck on or worry about enough to pick up their phone and punch in a search. Once a game is released, we can track what people are typing into Google, Bing, and other such search engines more directly. And if we see a particular search spiking in popularity and frequency, we know that we should probably do a guide on it."

Piracy is too minor to have a huge effect on sales. Plus you need a good PC. PC piracy is huge yet games still do well on PC. If only a great consumer friendly storefront like Steam existed to actually make people want to make legal purchases...oh.

I have a Steam Deck and a Switch and plan on buying Xenoblade 3 a few months down the line but I looked into starting it on Yuzu (Switch emulator freely available on the Steam Discovery app area) out if curiosity. It runs like crap on the Deck. The stories of all Switch games running well on the Deck are completely untrue. Even the games that do run well have stutter, graphical and crashing issues. It can barely emulate Xenoblade 2 let alone 3. Now, I can't speak for how well a PC can emulate a Switch but I can say that the Deck is nowhere close to accomodating anybody's needs for Switch games.

Steam Deck runs most Switch games better than Switch does.

Old McGroin653d ago

Incorrect. And not even close to being true.

@old

I won't argue with you.
I'll just insist people interested to look into it and come to their own conclusions.

It's so easy to just torrent Switch games, everyday there are new games added from repacker FitGirl. 😊 I do have a OLED Switch but, playing Switch games on PC is much better if your home. Ryujinx and Yuzu are really good Switch emulators games run very smooth no FPS drops depending on the emulator and you can upscale games to 4k/60FPS even with ray tracing mods. Nintendo is missing out on bringing a few of their games over to PC, they can really see their potential in their games without much sacrifice.

Doesn’t make it ok to steal because you don’t get games on PC.

You can buy the game and then play it on the platform that runs it better.

People love to say that most PC gamers just pirate games, but Steam is amazingly large to the point they can handle multiple hardware projects at one time.
We'll happily buy games if we feel supported. I run Switch emulation on both my PCs, as well as Steam Deck; yet I still pay for the games.

I don't think they should put their games on PC, but the switch really needs a new model with better performance at this stage.

You dopey sod lol, I have an OLED switch and a PC. I don't emulate switch, but I can understand why people do.

Neonridr654d ago

we can hope that the successor will be something along the lines of a Steam Deck in terms of performance.

MadLad653d ago

@neon

If they even matched the Steam Deck performance, which I find questionable honestly; the next version of the Steam Deck will probably be on the horizon and we'll just be repeating how things have been since the Wii.
