Id love to get a steelbook edition without having to get the hammer.

Double_O_Revan677d ago

Yea, there's a big gap in the market releases. I would like something similar to what they did for Horizon: FW. Something around $80-90 with a steelbook and some extras. Nothing too fancy. Just a nice shelf piece.

jBlakeeper677d ago (Edited 677d ago )

That’s what I want also. I don’t see why that isn’t an option when it was for HFW. They likely think it will make people spring for the fancier edition. But they are underestimating how much a lot of people still care about having a physical disc.

RosweeSon677d ago

Yeah those ones are normally best to go for these days if want the steelbook at least get a nice lil package and some bonus dlc normally. Just a shame a few retailers wanna charge extra £10/20 for the steelbook 😏✌🏻

Bobertt677d ago (Edited 677d ago )

The steelbook doesn't even have a disc the editions with the hammer got rid of the disc.

CobraKai677d ago

Right. So lame. Why have a disc case if they’re only giving a digital code?

LamerTamer677d ago

No buy for me. Sony recently pulled 100's of movies from their digital library, and Ubi pulled an Assassin's creed game so even if you bought it it is no longer accessible. With digital YOU DON'T OWN IT! It is just a long term rental. No thanks. Digital media can disappear at any time and you have nothing you can do about it.

VenomCarnage89677d ago

@lamertamer
It sounds like you just read the headlines and move right on. That Assassin's Creed thing is proven incorrect click bait.

But my question to you is, what do you do about your physical copies after the disc sh*ts itself?

-Foxtrot677d ago

It's a shame, Sony first party games have always had a slip case with a steelbook included along with a mini artbook, the limited edition basically.

Why they aren't doing it here is insane, it's another push against physical discs as these limited editions would at least include a disc version.

shinoff2183677d ago

I dont think sony is doing it like o well screw physical media. Sony was the first to let these limited companies make games physically with low print runs. Nintendo did after sony was letting it be done and xbox wants like 75000 minium for a print run. I believe ive read that about xbox. Ive seen sony print runs going as low as 1000 copies.

That alone i dont think sonys at war with physical media. The gow thing is a dumb decision by whoever made it but i dont think the company as a whole is the issue

fr0sty677d ago

I was disappointed that this game wasn't much better looking than the PS4 GOW... another game held back by cross-gen.

RosweeSon677d ago

Some steelbooks are really nice but they become a bit of a joke these days. They literally gave them away with brand new copies (and some place still do entirely for free) now they are sold as extras and people pay £20/50 for them it’s madness 🤷🏻‍♂️🤣 ✌🏻

Neonridr677d ago

I'd love to get a steelbook with an actual game to put in it :/

darthv72676d ago (Edited 676d ago )

Well... preorders are up and against my better judgement I ordered the CE. It says it comes with a voucher for both. So does that mean I can install the 4 on my Pro and give the 5 to my son (for his digital 5)? Then I can pick up a cheap 5 disc for the steelbook (to use on my disc 5). $200... ehh. The extra $60 for the Jotnar, which really amounts to different dice and a cloth map, wasnt really worth the extra $$ to me.

edit: i guess its just one code for either version. Well okay then.

masterfox677d ago

pretty sure the PS5 can handle easely full HD, high fidelity, and ray tracing all together running in a lock 60 fps, they should add an option like that imo.

rpvenom677d ago (Edited 677d ago )

I was going to disagree but then I realized you wrote HD, not 4k. Woops

GoodGuy09677d ago

I mean he's basically saying max visuals with raytracing, 60fps, at1080p which I find nothing wrong. At native 4k, I don't think the ps5 can do 60fps at those settings...

Even the top tier pc GPUs can barely handle max visuals, raytracing, 4k native at 60fps on modern AAAs, you'd need dlss also to get 60.

The ps5 will run the game fine and it'll look great. It'll have options for performance or visuals. And I don't think they've even confirmed ray tracing for the game?

jznrpg676d ago (Edited 676d ago )

I’d bet they add some other graphical options like Guerilla did with Forbidden West after launch . I’m sure they are focusing on polish and releasing the game first . I will try out both modes they offer and make my decision from there . Each game is different and I’ve noticed that I don’t always choose the same setting . Whatever looks and runs best “in my eyes” is what I choose and sometimes 30fps wins . Not always but sometimes . I don’t care what the numbers are just how it feels and looks to me . Depends on the game really .

Binarycode676d ago

PS5 should be able to do 1440p @ 60fps with RT.

Early days yet. Old engines built for old tech. Takes time to adapt. I'm looking forward to see what Upgrades Naughty Dog have done to their engine for Just PS5 Games.

Tacoboto677d ago

We've got 4K30 and Dynamic4K60 mentioned, oh-please let there be the new PS Gold-Standard 40hz and unlocked VRR modes

alb1899677d ago (Edited 677d ago )

You will get 4k 30fps and with the PS5 pro they will make a remaster 4k 60fps with Ray Tracing at 70 dollars.....there you have it.

Tacoboto677d ago

Can't wait for that announcement article to complain about Sony only to preorder the most expensive version *Standards leaves the chat*

DarXyde677d ago

Why would you remaster a game that can run 60fps with dynamic 4K? Would it not automatically upscale at a locked 4K wherever possible provided that the hardware has the grunt for it (which would very likely be the case with a 5P)? Moreover, it's pointless if it can use the latest FSR because it would probably feature a 120fps mode, so why are we talking about 60fps for a prospective Pro console?

alb1899676d ago

Darxyde,
In a logic World things will goes as you say but that logic World doesn't work for a grab all money you can company. Remember what I'm saying, with the PS5 pro there will be a new version of the game 4k, 60 to 120fps and Ray Tracing. Why? Because that's the way SONY works and the fans support that with their wallets.

DarXyde675d ago

alb1899,

Let's say, for argument's sake, that comes to pass. Or rather, it is advertised as such. That would be consistent with Sony's tendency of late to do something anti-consumer.

Fair enough.

But in such an instance, I would actually expect that their fans DON'T support this and Sony will catch tremendous heat for it, prompting them to reverse course and offer a free patch to existing owners.

Playstation is my favorite platform... And I have my gripes with Sony. That said, I can appreciate their sensitivity to criticism. Since this generation started, they've been testing the waters with what they can get away with and the fans have been good at slapping them down.

In other words, even if they try to charge for an updated version, it's unconscionable that it will come to pass.

I think you sell the PlayStation community a bit short. The reason their games are such grand experiences is because their fans are content at best and hostile at worst. I think Xbox fans are easily led into acceptance on a number of things (XBL withstanding) because they see the value in the subscription service of XGP, but it also means Microsoft effectively has carte blanche to release WIPs. Nintendo's fans are often of the mentality that Nintendo games come with a certain level of prestige and support practices unquestioningly.

To be fair, PlayStation also has the biggest tent, so their fans being the most vocal makes a lot of sense.

swize677d ago

yes , 40fps was great in Horizon FW . Let it be the standard from now on . Ditch 30fps altogether .

RevXM677d ago

So how is 40 fps going to work out for people who have hdmi 2.0 or older tvs?

I hear only great things about 40 fps, but I dont think adoption of 120/vrr tv's is widespread enough to justify ditching 30 just yet.
Id be SOL with my lg B7 if the game didnt also have a 60fps mode.

jznrpg676d ago

They obviously shouldn’t ditch 30fps . That would be stupid . Adding more modes is ideal but take time and money . I don’t think they will after launch but it may not be exactly what random people want . More options the better though .
I’m not going to wait to play this I’ve waited long enough .

EvertonFC677d ago (Edited 677d ago )

Full of Ads;

"Based on this information, it has been found that there will be two render modes in the game. One will allow the game to render at native 4K with 30 FPS performance. The other mode will allow the game to run at a dynamic 4K resolution with 60 FPS performance"

andy85677d ago

Sounds good to me. Never get the issue with dynamic. No one's telling the difference unless you have 2 monitors side by side. Much rather more stuff going on on screen and having it dynamic.

isarai677d ago

Depends on the game, not that uncommon that it makes an image just soft enough to make my eyes feel like they are constantly out of focus.

StarkR3ality677d ago

depends what the lower end res is, if it's like 1440p+ like a lot of games that's fine. the problem is there has been some instances where the perforamnce mode on some games are barely above 1080p. Dying light 2 and Valhalla for example, unoptimised to fuck examples but you get those games on a Full 4K 65inch display like me and they look terrible. Like staring through a glaucoma filter.

JEECE676d ago

Yep. I'd always rather have the resolution drop to maintain 60fps rather than have native 4k locked with fps drops.

Looking Back, God of War Ragnarok Should Have Been Better

As more and more PlayStation exclusives make their way to PC and other consoles, God of War Ragnarok remains one of the last bastions of first-party greatness from Sony this generation. The long-awaited sequel delivered the thrills, violence, and intense storytelling fans have come to expect from this new chapter in the God of War saga. Or did it?

They can keep improving the game for 15 years but at what cost?
Not be able to do anything else and not be able to move on.

Bingo Duke Nukem forever would of likely achieved great results if it came out when originally planned but over a decade later it came out to bad results.

Same tbh g here they could of worked on the game for years but risked the industry passing it by

77m in under a year is mighty impressive.

badz1497d ago

what?? dude, this is for total PS5 shipment, not total sales for Helldivers 2 LOL

Babadook77d ago (Edited 7d ago )

@Badz

Lol.

I hope you aren’t suggesting this is an all time sales forecast. I was referring to the actual time stated. FY2025 is in pretty much one year. Just under as I stated.

PrinceOfAnger8d ago

Good, now release the games day-one on PC.

Kakashi Hatake8d ago

That would dip into hardware sales. This game did well on PC because it's a multi-player game.

purple1018d ago

am I correct in thinking games like helldivers can't be easily pirated, as they come with constant updates to the content, so new pirated/cracked version would have to be installed every bloody day

but single player one-and-done games, can EASILY be pirated. Choice.

maybe this is also why Helldivers sold well on pc, aside form fans liking it of course.

darthv727d ago

Sony makes more $$ off software anyways so it wouldnt hurt things as much as you think. There will still be the console only people to buy the specialized hardware... why make PC players wait any longer than they already do?

S2Killinit7d ago

@Darth
Because PlayStation is a console and we love consoles.

Babadook77d ago (Edited 7d ago )

@Darth

The big money in consoles, or Steam for that matter, is in the 30% cut that you make on all games. This is why Xbox is pretty much screwed as they didn't target that. If Sony puts everything on PC they will lose their share of 3rd party games as those 3rd party games would be bought on PC. Its best to keep your platform the thriving ecosystem hence you give timed exclusives to your home console, unless the game is not relevant such as GAAS which might as well be on PC day one.

darthv727d ago

Dook, your assessment implies that console players are just jumping ship to PC and that is not the case. PC players play on PC, console players play on console and then you have this small segment that sits in the middle that go between the two. Sony would not lose 3rd party $$ as they still have their console fanbase who only play on their console. Sony putting their games more frequently on PC will yield them even greater sales as the PC players would not have to wait as long to buy. Now Sony may lose a percentage to Valve... but they make it back in overall revenue from both console and pc markets. We have seen what happens when sony releases a PS game on PC. Its nearly a hit every time, and sony sees this as well, so you know they are looking even more closely at the idea of more frequent PC releases.

And like S2 says, console people love consoles so, again, they really have nothing to lose and everything to gain by putting their games on PC as well as console. Like i siad, there will always be a console market to sell to... why not take advantage of the PC market in addition to that. Nobody can come up with a proper way to refute this. And this is why Sony is eyeballing PC more and more.

badz1497d ago

@darthv72

the one that makes real money from the sales of Helldivers 2 on PC is Valve! that sweet nectar of 30% cut while doing nothing is so addictive for Gaben. sorry to burst your bubble but Sony makes more money selling the game on PSN than on Steam

Redemption-648d ago

Will not happen. Some games do better on consoles and some extra money 2+ years later and I expect companies such as Sony and Rockstar will keep doing that

CrimsonWing697d ago

Didn’t this sell way better on PC by a large margin? Why would you, in the position of a business making money, want to limit yourself to possible poor sales on a single platform instead of releasing on more while the hype iron’s hot?

This whole console vs PC fanboyism isn’t making Sony money. Look at Square straight up pulling away from exclusivity and now going for an aggressive multiplatform release campaign. I’m pretty sure Day 1 on console and PC is happening.

Redemption-647d ago

@CrimsonWing69

You would be right if we all pretend Helldivers is the only game Sony has. As a business man, you look at history, not just one example. There is a reason Rockstar can release their games on consoles only, sell 10s of millions, then release them on PC later. Xbox has been doing day 1 and tell me, how high has their sales been? It's understandable for a live service game, but for single player games, Sony is better off doing what they planned. Release exclusively on PS, then wait 2-3 years, then re-release at full price again.

And no, it didn't sell better on PC by a large margin. It was initially 50/50, as stater by the director, but was later giving more information from NPD (Circana) as PC 60, PS 40, but that was in North America.
Absolutely no one thought Helldivers 2 was going to sell this much, not even the studio and I don't expect all live service games from Sony to sell that much.

Chevalier7d ago

"Didn’t this sell way better on PC by a large margin? "

60/40 is hardly a larger margin

Tedakin7d ago

All the games Sony is releasing on PC 2 years later aren't performing well. If they had put Spider-Man 2 day one on PC it would have sold millions on there.

Redemption-647d ago

@Tedakin

That might work for some games, but not most. I mean people were claiming Xbox games were going to sell more with day on PC. Tell me, how is that going? Also, keeping single player games exclusive is far more valuable than day 1 on PC. A new user's who buys a new Playstation for Spider-Man 2, GOWR or the Last of us 2 has far more value to Sony than a PC gamer.

Cacabunga7d ago

I would stop supporting Sony hardware.. especially now that trophies are also on PC.

For their own sake they better keep making console exclusives and keep an eye on what big of a joke xbox has become

Profchaos7d ago (Edited 7d ago )

That worked out well for Xbox right I think a two year gap is actually extremely generous as a PC player and a console player if the game is first party comes to PC day and date it does devalue the purpose of console hardware and exclusives.

@darth Sony make no money on console hardware always has been the case give away the shaver and sell the razor model

They make 30 percent on everything sold first second or third party on the system.

If they did r sell hardware at a loss we would be seeing console proces spike as much as 50 percent

sony eats their nails in stress because they didn't make this a ps5 only game

DarXyde8d ago

Doubt it.

Anyone with a PS5 that wanted Helldivers 2 probably has Helldivers 2 on PS5.

Otherwise, I don't see very many people buying a PS5 just to play this game.

WelkinCole7d ago

Yeah also its really for the PC/Online gamers. I doubt it would have made as much just being on the PS5. Also as you said its not a game that would get people to go out and buy a 400 plus dollar console just to play it.

DarXyde7d ago

WelkinCole,

Right.

That would just be cavalier, if we're keeping it real. Typically, people buy into an ecosystem for the breadth of the games portfolio. Buying a PS5 for one game is just unrealistic.

Stripping away any of the convoluted reasons for buying a console, it's pretty simple:

1. You buy it knowing it'll eventually have the games you want (early adopters).

2. You buy it because it has the games you want now (enough of a portfolio).

3. Because it has the best version or one that your social circle bought into.

4. Because you can't play the games anywhere else (the caveat being that there are ENOUGH games to warrant the investment as an exclusives machine).

With the rise of PC ports of PlayStation titles however, there's another dimension here...

5. Immediacy.

Buying one just for what was once a niche franchise is absolutely an outlier.

neutralgamer19928d ago (Edited 8d ago )

The gaming business has evolved, and PC is now seen as just another platform to release games on rather than direct competition for the same market share. Most PC gamers don't own consoles. Personally, I was a console gamer until last year. I grew frustrated with the constant greed in the console market and the lack of unity among console gamers to demand change.

Take Helldivers 2 as an example—Sony tried to push their PSN policies, but PC gamers pushed back effectively. On consoles, though, there's a persistent defense of corporate practices. Look at the differing narratives around Microsoft's and Sony's actions among gamers and journalists. I don't miss consoles at all, and the PC community has been incredibly supportive for a newcomer like me.

On PC, I can enjoy games without spending on microtransactions thanks to mods. Cheat codes, which were fantastic back in the day, are still accessible on PC, whereas on consoles, they are monetized through things like XP boosters.

shinoff21838d ago

I still believe some console gamers just don't wanna deal with pc. Tye only thing pc has that I'd be interested in is mods other then that I'd rather not deal with it. Someday I'm sure I'll jump in but just not in a rush

StoneTitan8d ago

Yeah and pc is also the plaform with most cheaters. Its a great platform but after a day of work on pc I just like to relax with my console and not think about anythink else.

Deeeeznuuuts7d ago

I'm in a Helldivers group on Facebook and the amount of people who got the Spiderman bundle with Helldivers 2 was crazy 😂

Crows907d ago

Sony has a successful multiplayer title...who coulda guessed.

Arrowhead seems to be doing a great job with updates as well. Kudos!

WelkinCole7d ago

Yeah never saw it coming as well.

DivineHand1257d ago (Edited 7d ago )

I really hope the situation with Helldivers 2 on PC can clear up soon. Since the whole PSN account mandate, the player population has dropped significantly compared to what it was a few weeks ago.

It now takes much longer than normal to clear a major order. I remember when they released the order to kill the terminids and that got cleared the same day. Now we are struggling to do the same with the automatons.

P_Bomb7d ago

Could be some ppl are naturally moving on. I haven’t played since platinum.

DivineHand1257d ago

Nope. Players from over 170 countries are unable to play the game because it was delisted from Steam.

This whole PSN issue has done significant damage to the community.

God of War Ragnarok PC port will be announced soon according to the leak

A known leaker teases the God of War Ragnarok PC port announcement in May.

thorstein11d ago

State of Play usually focuses on the PS brands so don't expect it and don't get angry when they don't.

That said, PC players might as well start signing up for the free PSN as well. It's not like we don't all have EA,Acti, Ubi, GoG, MS already.

They're bringing more games.

Nacho_Z11d ago

I actually didn't enjoy the story and the writing in general anywhere near as much as the last game, having said that I've just got the platinum and I'm currently playing the Valhalla DLC so there's still a lot to like.

neutralgamer199211d ago

It’s good but not great. The ending is really rushed and you can tell 2 games are squeezed into one. First game is a standout but honestly sequel had its moments but the last 25% of the game was rushed

ocelot0711d ago

Why because it's going to pc? It was also available on PS4 as well.

RpgSama11d ago

I mean, if you want to play those games 2 to 3 years after, go ahead, I think Sony is counting on you buying the game regardless. Sell your $500 console that you already have to buy a $1k+ PC that maybe plays the game slightly better, if you already have the PC then good for you then.

FinalFantasyFanatic10d ago

Maybe? High end parts from 7 years ago can match or even beat the PS5, if you're willing to look at the second hand market, that should easily be possible. The only issue might be the GPU, but you can find parts from the 10, 20 or 30 series that match or beat the PS5, the PS5 isn't that powerful, especially compared to today's parts.

RupeeHoarder11d ago

Can’t tell if this is sarcasm or not, anything is possible here….but imagine playing a game a year and a half before PC and being upset about it.

TheEroica11d ago

He's not wrong though... Ps5 not needed this Gen. Easily sonys worst generation.

ziggyzinfirion11d ago

Just look at his comment history. This is an immature PC toddler that gets jealous so much when console gamers are eating good.

andy8511d ago

Why? It's been over 4 years. Baffles me why people complain stuff goes to PC eventually. Means more chance of sequels to games so it literally does nothing but benefit you. If you're not buying a PS5 because you're wanting to wait 4+ years to play an acclaimed game good luck to you.
