Multiversus Preview - IGN

IGN : Many games have tried to provide a legit alternative to Super Smash Brothers, but none have been able to come close to Smash’s level of mainstream popularity or broad mass appeal. Enter MultiVersus: A free-to-play crossover platform fighter that brings together the worlds of WB-owned properties like Looney Tunes, the DC Universe, Scooby-Doo, and Game of Thrones, just to name a few. That alone is enough to grab my attention, but the big question is whether MultiVersus will be able to hold its own with its core gameplay, progression mechanics, and free-to-play monetization plans.

Smash Killer!!

Nobody is trying to provide a Smash killer while not being an exclusive, it doesn’t make sense.

Why would it need to be an exclusive to be a “killer” of something? Its not just 1st party devs who might want to make a competitor that overtakes a popular game

Because why would you want a Smash clone when you have Smash? There will be a lot of overlap, but this is an Xbox/Ps5 game, like Brawlhalla and the other clones.

Smash killer is a bloated word used for clicks. Call of Duty wasn’t killed by Battlefield 3 when that series modernised and game back for a console release, so why would a random AAA free to play mobile game on consoles hurt Smash? It’s like a minions movie trying to outpace a Pixar movie in terms of both box office and cultural relevance.

That makes no sense… why would I want Mortal Kombat, Tekken, Soul Calibur, King of Fighters, Guilty Gear, etc when I already have Street Fighter? Because its a different game, with different characters and different takes on Smash mechanics.

Not to mention, what does any of that have to do with being an exclusive? This non exclusive game could end up being significantly better than an exclusive attempt (like PS Battle Royale),being exclusive or not has no relevance to the ability of the game and the devs to create a worthwhile competitor

Not everybody has or even likes Nintendo, and there's nothing wrong with choices. Not everything you like is liked by everyone, and vice-versa.

Never been a fan of these type of fighting games. Way too chaotic and hard to keep up with everything and everyone on screen

Agreed. Finally played my nephews at ultimate. It consisted mostly of just getting items to have AI allies and more clutter on the screen while building up the special maneuver than actually fighting one another. I'd rather memorize a characters combos and attacks in 1v1 than focus on which stuff to collect and use and which to ignore in a battlefield of 4 moving characters and weird environment effects. It didn't play anything like I've seen in tournaments, but what do I know, it was my first Smash game.

I dont see how this is called bros killer... I mean it looks good but lot seem to be missing in mechanics and hit feeling

This is not a killer its a game that you can play on non nintendo platforms if you love smash bros
