Far Cry 6 Only Installs 700MB From The Disc On Xbox Series X

PureXbox : If you've picked up, or you're thinking of picking up a physical copy of Far Cry 6 for your Xbox Series X, you'll probably want to be aware that due to how Smart Delivery works, you'll pretty much have to download the entire thing.

Where’s the scam? Did they not actually get a copy of the game?

Army_of_Darkness949d ago

So when you're buying the physical disc version, you're essentially buying a 700mb upgrade pack for next gen consoles?
Disc versions are honestly useless these days...

0hMyGandhi949d ago

see back in my day, when you bought a physical copy of a game, the *entire* game was on that disc. God I feel bad for people who don't have a half-decent internet connection these days.

Orchard949d ago

@Army You are buying a license for the game, not really a disk, and there's no guarantees of what, if any, content being on the disk at all. As long as it gives you the license, Ubisoft have fulfilled their side of the deal.

@Alex Agreed, if you have bad internet, modern day gaming sucks. But that's the world we live in nowadays, games are regularly too big for disks and have been since the PS4 and XB1. Plus a lot of the time Day 0 releases are pretty broken, if not unplayable and need the Day 1 patch.

949d ago
Christopher948d ago

Many buy discs to reduce download size by installing from the disc. This is very common in regions with download caps. So forcing you to download the whole package isn't what is expected.

People living in such regions are kind of used to dealing with this more and more as time goes on, though. So, it's not unheard of, but still annoying.

At least it wasn't like Fallout 76 where they gave you a cardboard disc.

Malacath949d ago

To be fair, physical has been a scam all last generation too.

The most common excuse for only buying physical is that when Sony or MS eventually shut down the servers you can still play your games. Except you can't

99% of games nowadays go gold before they are even finished so they require a day one patch.
If they are not patched they are a buggy mess or just broken.

In fact a lot of games are too big to fit on a single disc so require part of the game to be downloaded off the internet. Look at Call of Duty for instance. Thats over 200GB and a disc only holds around 50GB.

If the unthinkable was to happen and the servers were shut down those with physical collections who try to play their games will be disappointed when they realise that their physical game collection is full of broken or incomplete games.

Zjet949d ago Show
UnHoly_One949d ago

How is it a scam?

They can't fit both versions on the disc.

The only way around this would be to sell separate discs for each version, which is exactly what they are trying to avoid.

I suppose they could put two discs in the package but now they are spending extra money just to support a feature that is supported automatically by the console for everyone with internet access.

Good-Smurf948d ago

Just threw in extra 100 GB disc in the case.
If Rockstar can do that with RDR2 why can't Ubisoft do it with Far Cry 6?

CDbiggen947d ago

I love you guys who come out and defend anything lol.

KingofBandits948d ago

This is horrible. I hate Smart Delivery as it is, why do I want to pay $70 for an Xbox 1 physical copy only to have to download the XSX version?

CaptainHenry916949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

To be fair, this is part of the sacrifice for Smart Delivery.🤔

dbcoops949d ago

Doesn't seem very "fair" to the consumer at all.

Orchard949d ago

Which part isn’t fair? They paid $60, and they got a copy of the game as they expected.

badz149949d ago

@Orchard

Remember the fuss and hatred about GT7 needing online connection for saves? This is even worse. You paid for the disc but you can't even play the game without initially being connected to the net to download the game you paid for physically. Why even hother with disc if they are gonna do this? Better just sell it as codes.

dbcoops949d ago

@Orchard

The part where you paid sixty dollars for a game on disc to avoid downloading the game just to end up downloading almost the entire game file. Guaranteed if this was Sony related you wouldn't be making excuses for it.

BehindTheRows948d ago (Edited 948d ago )

@dbcoops

Agreed, this does suck! No snaking our way around it. Buy physical — gimme physical. Not a 700MB joke.

Kerppamaister949d ago

You can prolly install it from the disc if you go offline. Last time I asked MS it was like this, different game thou but I'd wager it works for every game.

KillBill949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

Has nothing to do with smart delivery. This has been a thing for disc bought games for some time now. Across many different developers and is simply the common way of supplying the game to their customers. Discs now are more often just glorified cd-keys for the games people buy. There is a reason a web sight exists where they list games that can be played off of disk with no internet connection. Because they are simply disappearing quickly and a list is need to know if what you are purchasing is just a cd-key.

And every game installs to hard drive before playing. Nothing is played directly from disk anymore.

dumahim948d ago

It is a smart delivery thing. They only make one version of the game for One and S/X. For PS, there's a different version for PS4 and PS5.

dbcoops948d ago

Has everything to do with (not so) smart delivery

"you'll probably want to be aware that due to how Smart Delivery works"

But hey maybe purexbox.com doesn't know anything about xbox.

NeoGamer232948d ago

Not sure what this has to do with smart delivery. They could've included the full XBO game on the disc. Then Smart Delivery should be able to re-install with XB Series editions if the hardware is there.

There are many games that started with XBO edition and smart delivered XB Series editions after.

moriarty1889949d ago

what a joke MS. A lot of their games do this ridiculous crap now. Unreal.

--Onilink--949d ago

I mean, since last gen the games are not even running from the disc and were doing a full install in the hdd.

Sure its slower that you have to download more stuff instead of just copying the anlot of the files, but discs are (and have been for close to a decade now) basically useless

JEECE949d ago

Lol yet people still insist that they buy games on disc to save hard drive space, and when you point out what you just did, they say "it's common sense that disc-based games install less to the drive."

ecchiless949d ago

but is not the same, no matter how much ppl try to spin this, lets not forget that not all ppl have great internet.

sammarshall102949d ago

People always try to make the claim that physical discs are useless but it isn't true

Plenty of games still work fine from the disc. There's no excuse

porkChop949d ago

How could devs fit 4 versions of the same game on one disc? Ubisoft would have included the last gen versions on disc because most gamers are still on last gen systems. That's pretty logical.

Obviously it would be ideal to not have to download the game but this is just the reality of where everything is headed.

ufo8mycat949d ago

Why not have separate physical versions? Like Sony does, PS4 version and PS5 version.

porkChop949d ago

Because that defeats the purpose of smart delivery. The whole point is you buy one copy and when you download or install it'll give you the right version for your system automatically.

ufo8mycat949d ago

@porkChop “ The whole point is you buy one copy and when you download or install it'll give you the right version for your system automatically.”

I don’t see why its so difficult to pick the right physical version when going to the store. Like PS4/PS5, easily identifiable. I guess Microsofts XBox naming scheme can be difficult for the more casual buyers, which doesn’t help.

Once start seeing next gen only games, than you will have the Series X version on the disc, than again, still have the Series S, so maybe not lol

porkChop949d ago

It's not difficult, that's not the point. The point of Smart Delivery is buying a game once and not paying for an upgrade. It's not hard to understand.

septemberindecember949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

@porkchop

I kind of get his point though. Why not have Xbox One versions with the complete Xbox One version of the game and then Xbox Series versions with the complete Xbox Series version of the game. Since it is apparent that the internet is required for smart delivery you could, in theory, offer the correct version when you connect to the internet. That way if I own an Xbox One the full version is on the disc I bought, but I could upgrade to a Series X where, with that 700mb file, it downloads the correct option.

Of course we couldn't do all four versions, that would be confusing, but two versions is totally doable.

NotoriousWhiz948d ago

In reality, they could do separate physical versions and also provide the correct one via smart delivery.

Malacath949d ago

This isn't just a MS thing so stop being a fanboy. The game is published by Ubisoft. They choose what goes on the disc. It's been like this all last generation too. Not just with Xbox either but with playstation too

Physical is now a waste of time. You buy a game on disc and almost all discs require day one patches or they are a buggy mess. Some even have to download most of the game off the internet.

Look at Call of Duty for instance. Those games can be over 200GB. Blu Ray discs only hold around 50GB so where does the extra 150GB come from? It's not from the disc

dumahim948d ago

It is a MS thing. They only have one physical copy of the game for all their different consoles. PS4 and PS5 versions have different discs you can purchase. Like you said, there's only so much room on a disc, so they can't put all versions on the disc.

Malacath949d ago

@sammarshall102

First of all they are not run from the disc. They are installed to the hard drive and most only run fine because they have downloaded a patch for the game from the internet.

Try disconnecting your console from the internet, installing a game from a disc and see how well it runs without the day one patches. Most wont run well. They will have performance issues and game breaking bugs.

jznrpg949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

I’ve done it plenty of times and games run fine . Maybe some small issues but I have bought games and went on the road and the internet wouldn’t work on PS and I still played games Without the day 1 patch . Most games aren’t at Cyberpunk levels of broken at release . Yes there are some games that have serious issues without the day 1 patch but not the majority

rakentaja949d ago

This is still a better solution than 2 separate disks and you are locked to one version at a time.

blacktiger949d ago

That's a scam right there, instead of giving you next gen they just giving same ol crap! They don't wana give anything free. Microsofto the old days never change eh,

porkChop949d ago

Huh? Enlighten me, what are MS charging for here?

x_xavier_x949d ago

What are you talking about? Take off the tin foil hat...

Malacath949d ago

This is a Ubisoft issue and not a Microsoft One.

Farcry is a Ubisoft game. They choose what goes on the disc. They obviously chose the Xbox One version because there's more Xbox Ones than Series consoles out there.

jznrpg949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

Was supposed to be a reply to iplay1up2 down below 👇.

It’s both because of “smart delivery” Ubi decided they don’t want to print multiple copies of the game so they just gave you an installer on a disc . If MS wanted individual copies they would get it.

+ Show (1) more replyLast reply 949d ago
iplay1up2949d ago

Why are people blaming Microsoft, for something UBI did? None issue for me.

Profchaos949d ago

Because it's also Microsoft to blame. So smart delivery means that there is typically one version of the game on disc the Dev can chose in this case ubi chose the xb1 version for whatever reason.

What people don't like is that they can't chose to buy the disc version relative to their console. Like they can't pick up the xsx version

dbcoops949d ago

So its not Microsoft's fault they implemented a system that doesn't work with third party content? Um ok.

ecchiless949d ago

ofc not, is Santa fault... get with the times xD

iplay1up2949d ago (Edited 949d ago )

Clearly you have no idea what you are talking about. When was the last time you bought a game, that didn't need a day 1 patch, and without that patch the game wouldn't even work? The only company still doing that, is Nintendo.

dbcoops948d ago

@iplay1up2

I've bought plenty of games that didn't require a day one patch and comparing a patch to downloading sixty eight and a half Gigs is hilarious. Swing and a miss.

Zjet949d ago

ITS NOT JUST FAR CRY 6

Jesus christ people, All Xbox Series S/X Games except for those that are 100% Exclusive to next gen are XBOX ONE GAMES on the disc.

This has been a thing for months now....

It's not UBISOFT, this is what happens when you market Smart delivery.

Jesus christ.

iplay1up2949d ago

Jesus Christ, is my Lord and Savior. He had nothing to do with Far Cry 6.

NotoriousWhiz948d ago (Edited 948d ago )

Tony hawk has an Xbox one and Xbox series version. No reason others couldn't do the same.

Edit: After further research, apparently Tony Hawk doesn't use smart delivery which comes with its own issues. Guess you gotta pick your poison.

Although, I still don't see why they can't have two physical versions and also implement smart delivery. That doesn't make sense to me.

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor61d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

Profchaos61d ago

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius61d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger8861d ago (Edited 61d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.
