Far Cry 6 is a waste of potential | Polygon

Yara, the Cuba-inspired region in which Far Cry 6 takes place, is introduced as a “tropical paradise frozen in time.” Its people once raised arms to overthrow a dictator, but now, his son Antón Castillo (voiced by Afro-Italian actor Giancarlo Esposito) is following in his footsteps, deploying the military in every corner and disposing of anyone who isn’t what he calls a “True Yaran.” History begins to repeat itself through abusive and exploitative practices, while the country burns and progress is measured in blood. And like its island setting, Far Cry 6 feels like history repeating itself — a perfect showcase for how Far Cry as a whole is frozen in time.

you can say that about all UBI games because they all feel like copy/paste type games

REDGUM970d ago

However if you like the copy and paste styled game, much like what I'm reading so far about FC6 then that's a good thing right?
I've always liked a far cry game for it's openness, action, and freedom. If it doesn't change all that much it's a good thing for me.

Much like a COD, BATTLEFIELD, HALO, GTA, BORDERLANDS, etc etc games amungst thousands of others out there that have sequels are usually very similar to their previous instalment.
I think alot more people out there would be up in arms if FC6 ended up a car racing game or COD a flight simulation game.

If you like these types of games play 'em, if you don't, don't bother commenting on them and move along to something you are interested in.

neutralgamer1992970d ago

Definitely if you like those games more power to you enjoy them good thing is right now there is a lot of quality of games so we all have games we like to play

Personally speaking I think we just want Ubisoft to do better because they own so many quality IP's that is kind of frustrating that they don't take more chances and they don't try to do different things

ufo8mycat971d ago

Sadly this just shows Ubisoft lack any creative talent and are to mentally inept to come up with anything innovative.

Its a shame there is no quality control when it comes to games or developer talent

SyntheticForm970d ago

I would say that isn't the case at all.

Whether you like their output or not, Ubisoft has some of the most talented developers in the world - they don't hire just anyone.

It's not a lack of creativity or ineptitude; it's that they found a successful model that's satisfactory not just for their bottom line, but for fans who evidently keep it afloat by continuing to buy it. Yes, people like these open world 8s - they really do.

I don't know how much an open-world shooter like Far Cry can meaningfully or profoundly evolve without a drastic alteration to the formula ala God of War. But hey, if there's a genius out there who has the answers and can make a badass, drastically overhauled FC game - I'm all for it.

All that aside, I really like Far Cry 6. I'm enjoying the hell out of it from a gameplay standpoint, a visual, standpoint, and an audio standpoint. Some of the best audio I've heard in a game to date.

i cant wait to read how it failed to reach potential "for not addressing LGBT issues or how orange people are the biggest evils in the world" . Actually i can, wont even bother checking the article out

brewin969d ago

Such a sad world we live in where political issues make someone judge a companies products. They just want to cancel everything.

strifeblade970d ago

Copy and paste isn't horrible but when they release them yearly it is. I liked it better when they released games 3 years in between. I also like AC but waited 2-3 years to play them after release. You get burned out

Chris12970d ago

Far Cry 5 released 3.5 years ago?

brewin970d ago

I find that most who complain about UBI games don't actually play them, they just parrot the narrative and avoid them because of that narrative. Sure they may use some elements from game to game but isn't that what most games do? Far Cry 3 4 and 5 we're all different games. Sure the spin-offs that they had where they use the same maps or similar and some elements of each game is similar but they are much different games if you actually played them.that's like saying all Mario games are the same because they copied the jump button.

Played and enjoyed Far Cry, Far Cry 3 and 4 campaigns .

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor81d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius81d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger8881d ago (Edited 81d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.

Bethesda makes the most consistently stupid NPCs, like really bad... yet I still can't help but love playing their games. Guilty pleasure, I guess. *sigh* 😩

How did redfall not make the cut.

anast304d ago (Edited 304d ago )

Every Bethesda game and Every Halo game. This list needed to have Cyberpunk somewhere.
