Here's Why Far Cry 6 On Console Doesn't Have Ray Tracing

In a recent interview with a Ubisoft developer, it’s been revealed that Far Cry 6 will ditch ray tracing on console in favour of 60FPS.

Just give me the 60; RT isn't necessary.

Jin_Sakai957d ago (Edited 957d ago )

I like RT but if it affects framerate I’ll pass.

NeoGamer232957d ago

I agree but at the same time I look at this as a lazy port.

Crytek set the graphical standard with Crysis. For years to come everything was compared to it. With this remaster I don't see that. Now, it is just another shooter. I would've expected that they again would push the boundaries of what is possible with the new version. Instead it is just a lazy remaster as far as I am concerned.

Later, NeoGamer232 realized he was commenting on a story about Far Cry 6, not Crysis Remastered.

NeoGamer232957d ago (Edited 957d ago )

@JEECE
OK.

I will admit that is really bad. For some reason as I read Far Cry, I was thinking Crysis.

MY STUPID POST OF THE YEAR.

Couldn't agree more.... resident evil 8 RT just made it play at 30fps instead of 60.... when RT turned on all I'm noticing is a tanking frame rate.

philm87957d ago

I'd use a 30fps ray tracing option if it was there. Do love a bit of ray tracing and I definitely prefer better graphics over FPS.

SyntheticForm957d ago

You're in the minority, but respect.

I enjoy RT but not at the expense of frame rate, which is why I love Insomniac so much.

Bladesfist957d ago

It's rare for any improvement in quality to not come at the expense of lower framerates. I don't get why they don't just give smart default settings like they normally do with console games but also give you access to all the settings to go crazy with

LordoftheCritics957d ago (Edited 957d ago )

The Ascent with RT was truly something to witness. When you see your crazy gunfire along with bullet shells reflect of the floor, you immediately know why its so good. And the environment via RT was just wow.

I completely welcome RT in every game. Yes a 30 fps option should exist. Ppl need to see how good it can be in different games with varying art styles, weather, time of day, mid firefights etc

SyntheticForm957d ago

Perhaps I came off shortsighted here, but I would totally welcome an option. Just for me personally, I'll take the smoother refresh. I don't think that RT is wasteful - I love it - but if I have to choose, I'll go with a better refresh.

Babadook7957d ago (Edited 957d ago )

I would like 40 FPS (120Hz TVs) to become a thing for current gen consoles. Its vastly smoother looking than 30 but could run with raytracing in many cases.

UnHoly_One957d ago

Same here.

Everyone raves about 60 fps in Control but Ray Tracing made it look SO MUCH BETTER, I can’t imagine using the 60 fps option in that game.

Every game is going to be different but I can’t imagine I’d choose 60 over vastly improved graphics very often.

I am enjoying the fidelity mode for Rift Apart. maybe it's just me (I know it's not but you get what I mean...) but 30fps in Rift Apart doesn't take away anything from the game for me. it looks absolutely stunning, plays absolutely smoothly and it's still just as fun.

Rt with these consoles is a waste of resources. Ubisoft did well. Frames much more important. Maybe the next Gen consoles

JEECE957d ago

Yep. With a few exceptions where it makes a substantial difference, it's a major framerate killer for somewhat better lighting effects. If you have a high end PC and can manage high framerates even with Ray tracing, great. But on console it isn't worth dropping to 30 fps.

Played and enjoyed Far Cry, Far Cry 3 and 4 campaigns .

-Foxtrot61d ago

4 wasn’t so bad

Pagan Min was pretty entertaining

Skuletor61d ago

Yeah, 4 was good, was hard choosing which Golden Dawn member to side with, when they were both pieces of sh!t.
I've beaten all the main entries except 2 and 6, ended up uninstalling 6 to download something else instead.

Profchaos61d ago

I'd love a far cry pack with the original PC game (not the half assed port on ps360) instincts, predator even a port of far cry 2 to modern consoles back when these games had their own identity and weren't far cry 3 cut and pastel

Demetrius61d ago

Still one of my most favorite franchises along with assassins creed

banger8861d ago (Edited 61d ago )

Same here, I don't know why these games get so much hate. I've thoroughly enjoyed every single one of them, with only a couple of exceptions. I wish they'd hurry up and announce Far Cry 7. The only thing I'm concerned about is the rumoured time limit.

Bethesda makes the most consistently stupid NPCs, like really bad... yet I still can't help but love playing their games. Guilty pleasure, I guess. *sigh* 😩

How did redfall not make the cut.

anast284d ago (Edited 284d ago )

Every Bethesda game and Every Halo game. This list needed to have Cyberpunk somewhere.
