Blaster Master Zero... nice.

monkey6021144d ago

Deaths Door was my favourite. Cris Tales still looks incredible

Vits1144d ago

I have to agree. Death's Door really grabbed my attention. In second place I would put Lost Eidolons, it looks like a more western approach to Fire Emblem from the trailer.

Petebloodyonion1143d ago

Same here! the art style caught my eyes felt like Grim Fandango for a second.
Also dig Backbone :)

monkey6021143d ago

Backbone does look deadly. I've actually been following that one for a while already

Obscure_Observer1143d ago

I remember the days when people on N4G used to mock Phil Spencer´s efforts in his travels to Japan trying to bring more japanese games and developers to Xbox.

He brought Yakuza, Final Fantasy, Kingdom Hearts, Phantasy Star... and more to Gamepass.

Today, the same people who used to mock the man, are in some shock by the fact that Octopatch Traveler and Astria Ascending will be available day one for Gamepass users. Lol.

Awesome games was presented today. Gamepass is getting bigger and better by the minute.

In Phil We Trust. :)

enkiduxiv1143d ago

And to think, all Phil had to do to "win" was use the massive resources of one of the world's largest corporations to buy up all the popular publishers and give everything away for peanuts in a desperate effort to drown out the competition.

And the results are obvious. The Japanese market responded... by buying the Nintendo Switch in droves and continuing to pay 60 dollars per game to have nothing to do with XBOX.

What an inspiration this truly gifted business man is for the children.

Gunstar751143d ago

Pint of bitter for the gentleman please

iplay1up21143d ago

Dude, give it up! Seriously!! Xbox has a ton of fantastic new content coming. A lot is coming to GP. Xbox is bigger and better than ever. Oh, and I have Switch and PS4/soon to be PS5. I am a gamer, not a fanboy.

InUrFoxHole1143d ago

When one thing has nothing to do with the other but man... you enjoy the salt!

n1kki61143d ago

You know it's not illegal to buy an Xbox and a PlayStation?

DJStotty1141d ago

@enkiduxiv

I agree, bring back Don Mattrick and the Kinect and DRM, damn you Phil, you don't know what your doing!!!

BattleCat1143d ago (Edited 1143d ago )

Funny in 360 times, Japanese multiplattform gamea were just normal on Xbox. They also had some Japanese exclusives. Now it's god's work ? Phil always was a loser, because he sucked it all up. In the end he had to buy everything with Microsoft's money. Give an ape millions and he will do the same. No one needs Phils big words & show for this.
We know how his big Japanese game with platinum games ended.
The Bethesda Deal also shows, that Phil couldn't achieve nothing all this year's. Without Bethesda, Xbox would be dead.

Edgelordsupreme1143d ago

What’s it like being 13 in 2021, must be tough but it’s okay you can get angry at Phil as a surrogate for the anger you feel towards your father. One day he will come back with the milk.

Sitdown1143d ago

Wow, that's a lot of bitter. Should we not expect an employee to use their company's money in order to advance the company? The deal with Bethesda just went through, and it wasn't dead up to that point.

Ausbo1143d ago

Sorry to hear Phil has hurt you. So strong of you to share your experience

-Foxtrot1143d ago (Edited 1143d ago )

“To game pass”

Yeah that’s the issue, old games to game pass...that’s not what people complained for

Where’s Lost Odyssey 2 huh? Games like that.

If you thought Phil was doing such a smashing job without doing anything then of course you’re going to praise anything he does now.

Edgelordsupreme1143d ago

You would have to ask Mistwalker about LO2, they don’t seem very interested in any console development.

porkChop1143d ago

We don't have a LO2 because Mistwalker is focused on making shitty phone games. I wish Xbox or Sony would just buy them out and get them back on track.

-Foxtrot1143d ago

For you guys above talking about Miswalker, you're right they are stuck doing mobile but it proves by point in a way.

Money talks and if Microsoft were really serious about Japan and making an actual investment then they would talk to them and offer them money. I highly doubt they'd turn it down if the price is right.

Microsoft "committing" to Japan is just them getting ports of old Japanese made games that were already released on other consoles.

Automatic791143d ago (Edited 1143d ago )

When are you going to quit being a fanboy @foxtrot

Xbox GamePass is the truth. You see plenty of good games on a weekly level. If your a gamer you should applaud what Xbox is doing. Xbox is a pure gaming machine with games for everyone. Don't forget you can take the games on the go.

By the way Xbox is serious about Japan they just acquired Tango GameWorks. Xbox has never owned a studio in Japan. Give Xbox credit lots of good things coming to Xbox ecosystem.

Tedakin1143d ago (Edited 1143d ago )

Without doing anything.... He literally just orchestrated the buyout of Bethesda. On top of Ninja Theory, Obisidan and the rest.

oof461143d ago

@Foxtrot: That is an overly simplistic take. We have no idea how many of the devs who worked on LO are still there.

InUrFoxHole1143d ago

@Fox
Gamepass is a great deal. When the devs recieve $ for their old work and they see older games grow longer legs by being played now, they will want to bring newer games. They're building a business relationship. My suggestion to you is to get gamepass and join the MS ecosystem.

RazzerRedux1143d ago

"By the way Xbox is serious about Japan they just acquired Tango GameWorks. Xbox has never owned a studio in Japan. Give Xbox credit lots of good things coming to Xbox ecosystem."

Tango Gameworks was already a part of Zenimax and was one of the studios that MS acquired during that acquisition. That transaction would have taken place with or without Tango Gameworks.

gold_drake1143d ago

i mean.. you know. money talks. and they are not gonna be there forever.
lets not pretend that it took several years, decades even, to get some of those games on xbox.

all the games you just said (not phantasy star included) are still very much, Playstation-first games.
and people mock phil for being a dramaqueen and talking too much bs.

Godmars2901143d ago

Pretty certain he - MS with him - are still mocked for inability to actually "make" games. That when directly involved there's pre-release hype and post-release disappointment. Having to wait months to years after release for their titles to come close promises, if they don't just die.

FFS: the main concern over Bethesda is that nothing will change under MS, aside from restriction to fan made bug fixes.

DarXyde1143d ago (Edited 1143d ago )

It's looking like you've taken the critiques of Phil personally. You're really out here advocating on behalf of a guy that was prepared to let his team take the fall for a doubling of Xbox Live's price? Is this really the hill you want to die on?

Phil's record, I'd say, is more negative than positive, but perhaps that doesn't matter. It just feels odd. It's like living in destitute poverty for 10 years and your prayers are never answered, but the one time someone gives you a piece of bread, God is good. I'll never understand the Spencer kids.

Credit where it's due: if y'all are happy, that's great. But let's not pretend he's this remarkable Xbox head. I would think more consistency is required.

Obscure_Observer1142d ago (Edited 1142d ago )

@DarXyde

Dude, I seriously doubt that you have the honesty and capacity to point out his negative vs positive in a list.

So why don´t you just continue to enjoy your Playstation and give me a break.

DarXyde1141d ago (Edited 1141d ago )

Not that you'd know, but I'm actually quite a positive and honest person. It's the internet though, so if you don't trust my intentions, fair enough. Don't worry, I don't doubt you're being genuine about your rose colored glasses for Xbox. 😃

I definitely said "I would say" because my interpretations are my own, but sure, I'll humor you.

Personally, I don't think Game Pass is a good thing for gaming. At all. People are saving money, but I do not believe in the long term impact being good for gaming.

Personally, I think Phil cares far more about quantity than quality—he told you all Crackdown 3 was looking great. Sea of Thieves released in abysmal condition.

Personally, I think the Xbox focal shift to services sets a very bad precedent.

I think Phil is very dishonest about the content on their service. The quality just isn't there, and if it is, it's from their safe franchises. The dishonesty I'm talking about is made worse when your consider that Game Pass is padded with multiple versions of the same game to talk up quantity and value.

Personally, I think Phil has allowed the release of the Series X and Series S in poor condition, at least according to the Xbox gamers who talk up the idea that the tools are immature which is why PS5 games are outperforming it (like that's a good thing: it means it wasn't ready).

I think Phil has gotten comfortable padding the library with old games and no reason to even care about the box outside of playing what are supposed to be the best version of multiplatform games (which is mixed).

For the record, I can give you a good list of things I don't like about the PlayStation: there's a ton of excellent games on PS2 not running on PS5, the PS5 came out too soon too because you can't expand the storage, they end server support for some of their best games too soon, I hate that they're trying to push PS Now as their solution to backwards compatibility, there seems to be some controller issues with the DualSense, etc.

You don't have to agree with me, but I do not like the direction of Xbox under Phil. There you go. Not interested in your reply or disagreement. I know you disagree. I'm just answering you because you suggested In being dishonest.

Obscure_Observer

Doesn't change the fact xbox brand is no where near playstation or Nintendo. Say what you want but don matrick actually tried to compete and beat competition

Phil has wasted the whole xbox one generation doing what? He started buying developers in the last year of xbox one so they won't be playing any major roles anytime soon

Edgelordsupreme
Sit

I think both of you missed the point. Phil has the backing of a trillion dollar company and almost unlimited resources so his odds of success should be high. When you can literally by any publisher that you want even electronic arts how could you not succeed?

Will xbox series x outsell ps5(absolutely not)

Will it generate more money than playstation (absolutely not)

Will ps5 sell more software than xbox series x/s(yes)

By end of this generation will xbox series x have half as many games that win GOTY(no)

So what exactly will xbox or phil doing better than playstation? Last I checked 3rd place is 3rd place no matter how good anyone is doing. PlayStation, nintendo and Xbox. This is the pecking order now and for the foreseeable future

Petebloodyonion1143d ago

And yet who's following who in terms of vision?
Let see? What company said that backward compatibility was a nice feature but useless but now seems to focus on that aspect instead of selling remasters?
What company also mentioned that it was counterproductive to release game day 1 on services like PSnow and PS+but now are looking at having more day 1 released.

Now true that MS isn't #1 it does not change the fact that a lot of things that they bring to the table become the norm after.

RazzerRedux1143d ago

"And yet who's following who in terms of vision?"

Uh....the company who is beefing up their first party studios because their competition's first party output is making them silly. When I look at a game companies "vision" I look at their games. Good thing Microsoft bought Bethesda as they have a vision for gaming that Microsoft seriously lacks.

Obscure_Observer1142d ago

"Doesn't change the fact xbox brand is no where near playstation or Nintendo. Say what you want but don matrick actually tried to compete and beat competition"

"compete and beat competition"

Xbox under Phil Spencer now, has "only" 23 first party studios but somehow he´s not trying to compete. Lmao.

Ok, dude. Everyone is free to live in denial. ;)

Obscure_Observer1142d ago

@RazzerRedux

"Good thing Microsoft bought Bethesda as they have a vision for gaming that Microsoft seriously lacks."

Let´s see...

- Phil Spencer had build a team from scratch for Playground Games made of 300+ employees focused on RPG.
- Acquired Obsidian, another RPG studio
- Acquired InXile, another RPG studio

THEN; He acquired Bethesda, another BIG NAME studio manly known for it´s premiere RPGs!

Not even going to comment on acquisitions like Ninja Theory and the others.

Bottom line:

Not sure if you´re been naive or downright disingenuous but, like it or not, all of Xbox has right now and will achieve in a short term future has a man´s vision and his name on it.

RazzerRedux1142d ago

@Obscure_Observer

Yes, I should have said Bethesda and the other studios. Point remains the same. Microsoft sucked at making games last gen outside of Gears and racing. They had their asses handed to them by Sony and their superior first party and these acquisitions are the result. If we want to start talking about who "followed" who then start there.

I don't trust any company or person working for a company but I think he has made a lot of good long term strategy decisions for XB.

bouzebbal1143d ago

What did he bring of new games? That’s the real question.. publishers get paid a ton to put their games in there so why not?

It’s still laughable that they still don’t manage to get a new game..

Zhipp1143d ago (Edited 1143d ago )

He said, in an article showcasing literally dozens of new games.

RazzerRedux1143d ago (Edited 1143d ago )

I don't know why anyone would be shocked that Microsoft was able to lure Japanese devs to Game Pass with money. That's never been an issue. Xbox 360 had plenty of MS funded JRPGs. This isn't new or even surprising.

Now if Phil Spencer is able to make Xbox Series X|S a legitimate competitor in Japan then you'll reason to crow. But this? No....not really.

Father__Merrin1143d ago

Xbox has fallen to lesser than 2.1 compared to ps5 its clear his plan isn't working. Xbox under Spencer has been horrid only recently you can see moves in right direction.
