It’s Okay to Criticize Nintendo’s Port Practices

Jason says, "The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD is coming. A resolution, framerate, and texture boost. No remade models, no reworked graphics engine, no enhanced lighting, nothing worthwhile in terms of technical upgrades except things you can simply turn up with sliders. For $60. One game, released on the Wii in 2011, ported to a system with 30 times more power… for $60. Yea, it’s okay to criticize Nintendo’s port practices. And in all honesty, you should. A lot of the big media outlets and YouTubers get their review copies for free: they don’t actually feel this; it’s you and I that are paying customers, and Nintendo is NOT kind to us. I don’t even need to make my point any clearer with Bowser’s Fury: Super Mario 3D World, or any number of other Switch ports that received barebones enhancements or content as a lone, full price release."

We didn’t need an article telling us this common sense

Only a blind diehard Nintendo fan would defend this

Neonridr1145d ago (Edited 1145d ago )

I had to pay full price for TLOU on PS4. All it was was a resolution/framerate boost. I still enjoyed the game regardless.

The fact is while Sony / Microsoft may do something along the same lines, they don't do this kind of shit in the same way Nintendo does

Nintendo have been doing it for years, mostly in sloppy efforts while at the highest price point they can and they never get reduced.

Unknown_Gamer57941145d ago

I didn't. I paid $15CAD for it. I already had the PS3 version, but that's when I decided "sure, why not?". I believe the Left Behind DLC was included too, so I didn't mind paying that for it. It's a great game, yes. But, it's a great game that I rebought. So, I just waited to rebuy it at a price that worked for me.

Inverno1145d ago (Edited 1145d ago )

The Last of Us on ps4 was not only a port it was also the complete edition which usually releases at 50. Nintendo has no excuses.

CrimsonWing691145d ago

I got mine for $20. Do any Nintendo ports ever drop that low? Hell do any Nintendo games ever go that low in price?

badz1491145d ago

@Neonridr

that didn't take long at all. your lord Nintendo can always count on you to defend them and deflect this scummy practice with another BS!

NO you didn't pay full price for TLoU PS4! NOBODY DID! that game was only announced as $60 but reduced to $50 before launch because people complained and Sony refunded the $10 back to those already paid.

notachance1145d ago

did you go pray to the nintendo altar before you go to sleep everyday?

Mr_Writer851144d ago

@neo
Whataboutary.

The thing is we all know that Sony and MS will drop the prices in sales.

In fact TLOU Remaster is now on a permanent price drop on PSN of £15.99 and has been as low as £8.99 on sale.

Name me one Nintnedo First Party game port that has been as low as £8.99.

You can't

So your attempt to defend Nintnedo is pathetic. Other companies at least give you the option to wait and get it much cheaper.

Highrevz1144d ago

That’s because it’s a good port, it’s not the best game to have used as an example in this situation.

SullysCigar1144d ago

TLOU Remastered included Left Behind and launched at a lower price point than TLOU on PS3.

It's hardly equivalent, as much as you might wish it was, in order for you to have a point.

Neonridr1143d ago

I'm simply saying. I've had to pay full price for games that were on previous systems before. Yes, Nintendo is the worst at it. But it happens. That's all I was saying.

TLOU was $50 when it released on PS4, which was $10 cheaper than it was the year prior

The other huge issue with Nintendo releasing titles at full price is that they stay full price for a very long time with
very miniscule discounts given to them. Whereas most other titles have the benefit of dropping in price drastically either temporarily or permanently, Nintendo titles will usually be $60 and you’re lucky to get them for $40 at a discount years after their release

ZyroXZ21145d ago

You say that like common sense is common on the internet lol

Unknown_Gamer57941145d ago

Bruh, there's a whole legion of fans who will roast you for having the audacity to say that it's ok to criticize anything Nintendo does. You can criticize Sony and MS for the same things, but if you speak one word against Nintendo, the gloves are off! That's how some people apparently feel, anyways. I'll roast any company for doing anything I dislike, but that's just me.

Charlieboy3331144d ago

Oh please. These Nintendo fanatics don't even know how to fight with gloves on....let alone off

Unknown_Gamer57941144d ago

True, that's probably why they troll the internet instead.

TheColbertinator1145d ago

Certainly Nintendo needs a wake up call but it has some real drones buying up everything they release

navi871144d ago

I must admit $60 is a bit steep considering they arent amping up the graphics etc all that much.
But the argument that Super Mario World 3D+Bowsers Fury is comparable is weird since its almost 2 games in one.

Nintendo Select: 5 Switch Games That Deserve A Second Chance

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "The Nintendo Switch has been one Nintendo’s most successful systems ever, both measured by the number of units sold and the quality of its titles, but if there’s one thing this generation has been missing it would have to be the Nintendo Selects line, bringing existing titles that had paid their dues back at bargain prices. With the Switch now entering its twilight years, and there being few new titles in store for the foreseeable future, what better time could there be to bring back this tried-and-true tradition? While the actual realization of it may be doubtful given how rigid both hardware and software prices have become in recent years, that only gives us all the more reason to dream up a hypothetical lineup of our own.

For this article the specific focus will not be on those massive multi-million evergreens that the lineup would no doubt contain a few of to cement its value, but instead on games that for one reason or another fell short of their full potential the first time around and deserve a second chance to reach more players at an affordable price. Let’s get started."

I really want Xenoblade Chronicles X on the Switch, can't believe that hasen't been ported. I'm playing Skyward Sword at the moment and I'm almost finished, but it's so long and the controls are so bad, even without motion. Astral Chain is fantastic though, they should make a sequel.
