Halo: The Master Chief Collection runs up to 4K 120FPS on Xbox Series X

Responsiveness at 120hz is definitely better, also no screen tearing if you have the right TV Setup. There have however been issues running at 120hz on PC with bullet spread and hit registration. Lets hope they have this fixed by the time the update comes out.

The game engines are so old that RayTracing would take rebuilding the whole game. Upgrading resolution, framerate and HDR won't be a problem though.

@djatotty Auto hdr is an additional effect but so fa hdr has failed to impress me and half time time is implemented poorly that lights are blown out or darks are crushed or midrange is grey. Sometimes it does work out and looks great. Just depends on the game or movie. (I have three different tvs with 4K hdr / Dolby vision)

I agree, may not look as good as games that are built with HDR in mind, but they look better than originally intended, so i am happy with that (BC titles).

I am waiting for 4K 120hz Tv's to come down in price, still in the £700+ price range for a decent one. Might see if i can nab one on black friday.

@DJ yah i have one monitor thats 120hz, but honestly 60fps is plenty for me, after that i'd prefer them to put the effort into visuals. I'd wait on the 120hz tv too. we won't see many big titles with that option until a new midgen console is released, or if you do it will be like 120hz 1080p which isn't worth it to me.

If a game has a locked framerate, then the Series S/X, will not improve that rate unless the developers release an update for their game.

Games that have an unlocked frame rate will be bumped up automatically.

Very cool that it will be on par with MCC PC now and also adding Cross-Play! Fantastic. It will be cool to be able to play all the Halo games the way they were meant to be played on Xbox where it originated! If it plays as good as it does on PC, we are in for a treat. Halo 3 at 120fps is for sure a game changer. Plus play with your friends on PC or on Xbox, the options are unlimited with the future Microsoft is building. Lets hope they can somehow get discord integrated for chat cross-plat.

Has worked great for other games. Gears, Sea of Thieves etc. I don't see why its an issue now that consoles offer 120fps so there is an even playing field. They will also have matchmaking based on input device to keep it fair between M/K and Controller users.

I wouldn’t if there were launch games to go with it but when’s that’s all they are offering it’s a letdown . Alone by itself it’s really good . But consoles have always launched with day 1 games this is the first time ever I’ve seen a console launch without multiple first party games . Switch wasn’t best launch day lineup but they had Zelda at least and games that showed new features though bad lol (snipperclips) but Xbox has nothing which makes the hype for it less understandable for people who don’t worship Xbox .

I'm pretty interested in how stable the performance is at 120fps on the Series X. I just started playing through the first games campaign this week on my One X and I noticed it drops below 60fps at times.

It took a while to fix, but MCC is always on my rotation these days. Fast lobbies, switching between halo 1, 2, 2A and 3 with dozens of maps (not big on reach or 4). Theres something really novel about getting skins in halo 3.

I think its just that there aren't any Series S consoles that we know of currently in the wild. I hope we get more coverage of it at some point so we can see how it performs prior to launch. Not getting a series S, but im genuinely interested in seeing its performance vs the One X.

You're trying to nitpick, just wait and see. Halo 2 Anniversary is the only one built as an Xbox One game, everything else got ported from their original 360 releases.

Be mindful that "Up To" could be as small as dipping to 1440p 105fps in full four-player splitscreen with all players in a Forge-created map focused on a pile of exploding barrels. Or it could be "worse" (as if that's even bad in some way)

I'm sure there are plenty of Xbox 360-era games that will run at 121+fps on an RTX 2060, so be prepared for a generation of disappointment if that's really gonna be your metric

(Any snark aside, I'm curious what the average will end up being on these Up-To games. Ratchet, Sackboy, and Astro all have dynamic resolution too. My 2070S runs Doom Eternal at a full 4K60fps with DRS off, and when it's on & still locked to 60, the res will scale by half in some scenes even though it clearly doesn't need to do it)

That hasn't been made final. That was from DF's analysis of the reveal and DF fully acknowledged this could change. But yeah, if Sony devs or PR come out and say "up to 4K" then I'm definitely going to be curious about what the lower end and average will be. Regardless, at least we are talking about next gen games.

If I was going for PC with most bang for the buck then I wouldn't have chosen a guy who spent $200 on a 750 watt power supply when a 500 watt would have been fine. That Modecom boosted that price by $150. And the more powerful 9700k can be had for $100 less than the 8700k. Hell, my 2080 Super build was about the same price as that 2060 build. So yeah.....if I was trying to make a point about price, this would not have been the build I picked at all.

That rig is nearly half the cost. Not as high performance due to the much slower CPU, but it still exceeds the "up to 120" Greenberg brags about. And yes, it still costs more than the XSX, but I've never made any assertions that a from scratch PC can be had that matches console power at the same price. If you have read my arguments on PC vs console pricing, my point has always been that savings in PC gaming come over time but the upfront costs are higher.

I have an 2080Ti and 3950x and cant sustain 120fps at 1080p on combat evolved anniversary. You get big drops in the big outdoor areas like the beach assault level.

If the Xbox can solidly hit 120fps at 4k for the whole single player campaign then that is really impressive stuff.
