Digital Foundry - We're finally getting to see more of the launch wave of PlayStation 5 titles, with Insomniac revealing a first look at hardware accelerated ray tracing effects in Marvel's Spider-Man Remastered and Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales. A huge improvement is clearly evident in reflections from the tallest skyscraper to the smallest puddle, but bafflingly, the reveal was met with some vitriol on social media. Artefacts and compromises were highlighted, with some even suggesting that we weren't seeing ray tracing at all. The reality is clear though: hardware RT is an emerging feature on brand new consoles developers are just getting to know, it's computationally expensive so compromises are inevitable - and what we're seeing here is very impressive stacked up against similar hybrid RT implementations seen in the PC space.
In a Game Rant interview, PUBG's Taehyun Kim explains how the team considered bringing back old lovable bugs in the Erangel Classic event.
After years of development, Project Awakening is still nowhere to be seen. What exactly is going on?
I was impressed with the trailer and hoped to find out more and then it fell off the map with no new information. Not sure if it's vaporware or not but I stopped thinking about it and moved on. Maybe it was moved to a new and improved engine, moved to PS5 development and suffers the long Dev times that many games had/have suffered from lately. Who knows. But we'll see.
As for gaming bolt, that video was trash. A long winded video that says nothing for 7 minutes going back and forth on it may or may not still exist and just kept going and going and going trying to produce an informative video with barely any information. Like an article with a word quota that's just paragraphs of nothing. Showing me that they haven't gotten any better at game journalism. If we can even call it that.
One of the directors for the game already said that game was still being worked on just last month....

Just how shock-ing is it?
Who said it wasn’t real ray tracing?
A foolish fanboy online?
"From what we can tell from the released footage, the 60fps performance mode sticks with the screen-space reflections seen in Spider-Man on PS4 - the key limitation being that only detail in the camera view can be reflected, leading to many visual discontinuities."
I'm assuming the final version will have RT along with 60fps in the performance mode at 1440p. The Demon Souls' footage we saw ran at 60fps and had ray-tracing in it.... that game is much more graphically intensive than Spiderman. I don't see a reason why we can't have RT and 60fps at the same time. If Bluepoint can do it, Insomniac should be able to.
Looks great!
The implementation isn't the best, but its also a launch title. I was blown away by Spiderman on PS4 Pro and I have no doubt Insomniac's engineers will continue to improve RT effects as the generation continues
Those missing leaves, kills it for me
