What's The Best Game Of 2020's First Half?

We have officially crossed the halfway point of the year and while 2020 has thrown a big ol' wrench through everyone's plans, we still managed to already rack up a few stellar games. So lest we forget around Game of the Year time, let's try and go over what the best games have been, so far.

The idiots have some valid points that were mostly glossed over in the major reviews, mainly having to do with the story and writing. Naughty Dog just hasn’t been the same since Uncharted 3, and the only person I can think to blame it on is Neil Druckmann.

Uncharted 4, Lost Legacy, Last of Us, Left Behind and Last of Us Part 2... everything ND released after Uncharted 3 is becoming better and better, with Part 2 being the most impressive game of them all.

The same old tired arguements trotted out by insecure people who believe some false narrative that Druckmann built these games as a political instrument.

The fact is, the direction taken since Uncharted 3 has resulted in a much more mature, nuanced and carefully told stories. No more relying on 'nazi zombie monsters' or 'thousand year old blue warriors' or any other supernatural mumbo jumbo to tell a story. Instead, we get more adult themes, emotionally impactful story telling, and a more interesting cast of characters.

I can appreciate there are some who genuinely didn't like TLoU2 story because they killed off fan favourites, but to those people, I would challenge them to consider that the emotions they feel about the story were exactly what ND wanted to ilicit.

As soon as someone talks about Druckmann having agendas I just roll my eyes, people making those arguments need to look at themselves and ask why they dislike the idea of a Studio including more varied characters in their work, because the argument that its heavy handed or shoe horned into the games is utterly false. The characters have depth, the story telling and scripts are beautifully crafted and nuanced and, even as a straight, white male, I can immediately relate and empathise to all of characters in the ND games.

The love scenes and expressions of love between Nate and Elena in Uncharted 4 were beautiful and believable, as we're the similar scenes between Ellie and Diana, funny how only one of these couples draw any hate though?

Same thing can be said about Game of Thrones season 8, that's how they expected and wanted people to react to the series finale, disappointed and irritated. Genius!

LoU2 was a mess of a story and a waste of time, nothing resolved, nothing gained. You knew exactly how the game would play out after joel died, all about revenge. No deeper meaning or plot, just revenge bad. Very shallow. LoU was the peak of their story telling and character development, all downhill since then.

It gets enough critical acclaim and especially media coverageh to win game of the decade. The only thing that may hold it back is there are WAY too many people that HATE Survival/zombi games. But I think it will win because the fans dont really have a say. They just tell us what they say we say.

While I'm still a bit unsure about the ending I think Final Fantasy 7 remake is my game of the year. I really enjoyed TLOU2 as well and it's definitely up there but FF7 got me with nostalgia. RE3 was a massive disappointment for me personally.

Hahaha, I hear you, Nioh 2 is sublime and it's a real shame that it will fly under the radar of so many.

Not to upset you though, but as much as I adore Nioh 2, I would personally still plump for TLoU2 as my favourite game of the year so far. Although it's an old game, I played Edith Finch this year which made a huge impression on me, I though that game was tremendous.

Easily the FF7R. Nothing else had such a new and fresh but at the same time incredible gameplay system combined with amazing characters. There were so many standout moments or sections in the game. I can't think of a single section of a game I played in recent years that was as entertaining, hilarious and as exciting as Wall Market.
