Although Super Mario Maker 2 on the Nintendo Switch received its final major update back in April 2020, it still occasionally receives a smaller update. The latest one follows on from an update in 2022 that addressed several issues.

I still say the series peaked with Galaxy. They've put out good stuff since then, but nothing really matched up.
They clearly stated this world editor is the last major update. It feels like part 3 is in the works and will add Mario 64 assets or even odyssey assets. Who knows?

This is a great update. It makes the coins and lives have meaning. Joycons are just trash, though. No D-Pad.
Wasted? It was a huge success there just waiting to make the next entry Ninty doesn’t make living service trash but games that are worth your money.
Game isn't even a year old and this is the last major update. There's a lot more they could do, and they should definitely support it longer before moving on to a sequel. This is less of a game and more tools for creations, and there's always more to improve and add for creators
