Um... you don't protest a game by playing it...

Wasabi1684d ago

@isarai

You do if you've already purchased it.

Wasabi1684d ago

@The disagrees

So If you've already given Bethesda your money, whats a better way to protest against Fallout 1st?

isarai1684d ago

@Fragnum

Dude, c'mon it's common sense, you dont play it. Playing it only gives them analytical ammo to justify their greedy practices. They can say "well despite what some people are saying our player numbers are still showing a good level of player engagement" all they care about is what they can tell investors, and any contribution to player numbers is a positive in their eyes. To properly protest games you gotta hit them where it hurts, their numbers.

Nyxus1684d ago

Better thing to do would be to sell your copy, and invest it in a better game.

Wasabi1684d ago (Edited 1684d ago )

@isarai

See your point and it's a good one.

On the other hand, if the userbase that is still playing the game take no action, Bethesda could just as easily quote the sales / playerbase as a metric of happy customers.
At least if gamers that enjoy the game and want to keep playing make a statement that says "yes we enjoy the game, but no we're not happy with the way things are going, sort it out" Bethesda cannot quote their numbers as a positive?

isarai1684d ago

@Fragnum

Okay, still doesnt change anything in my statement. Yes they can bring up sales numbers, so why would you add EVEN MORE numbers they can spin?

0hMyGandhi1684d ago

Your logic is almost comically bad.
"So If you've already given Bethesda your money, what's a better way to protest against Fallout 1st?"
Simple. You sell the game. You buy something else.
Or....You do what people did in the past: you set it on fire. You break the disc. You show your disdain for the game and the company using good ol' fashioned symbolism.

Wasabi1684d ago (Edited 1684d ago )

@Alex

"Your logic is almost comically bad"

Because selling or breaking a disc makes a statement... how?

If I sell it, Bethesda still reports the same number of players, because the new owner still has to play it online. If I break the disc Bethesda still report the same number of buyers because a trade in or resale has no effect on publisher sales.

You should think before you speak.

dumahim1683d ago

Bethesda: We released shit and on top of that it's broken.
Players: Let's protest by playing the game
Bethesda: huh, our concurrent users numbers are really up. They must really love this stuff.

yoshatabi1683d ago

@fragnum. Uhhhhh. Not playing the game? Even if you bought it and not play it that still hurts them you know. Are you really this stupid?

Wasabi1683d ago (Edited 1683d ago )

@yoshatabi

"@fragnum. Uhhhhh. Not playing the game? Even if you bought it and not play it that still hurts them you know. Are you really this stupid?"

As I am clearly too stupid to understand,

Please explain to me how not playing a game that you that you enjoy, want to play and have already paid for hurts Bethesda more than more than the media backlash that is currently occuring because gamers are grouping together to make a statement about Fallout 1st in order to raise awareness of Bethesdas anti consumer practices?

It's clearly working because this story has been covered by Eurogamer mentioned on the BBC news main page and is being discussed on N4G, NG, ResetEra and on numerous subreddits.

Almost everyone here is simply saying don't play the game, to me that's the same logic as going on hunger strike because there's too much salt in todays food, essentially it's cutting off your nose to spite your face and does not work for the gamer that wants to continue playing the game but doesn't agree with the changes.

nowitzki20041683d ago

No you dont. If you purchased it, you smack yourself for being dumb, learn a lesson and move on and be a better person.

sprinterboy1683d ago

That's like a climate change protester turning upto a event in a old petrol car they bought years b4

@isarai

"Okay, still doesnt change anything in my statement. Yes they can bring up sales numbers, so why would you add EVEN MORE numbers they can spin"

Dude, c'mon it's common sense, If the gaming news reports that 10,000 of the playerbase have made a protest against the game, that's 10,000 players that Bethesda cannot use as propaganda.

KwietStorm_BLM1684d ago

You're ignoring the point just to ignore the point, so just move on.

Wasabi1684d ago

@Kwiet

Thanks for your input.

isarai1684d ago (Edited 1684d ago )

Again all higher ups and investors care about is numbers, analytics. They don't care about these articles unless it hits a major publication, which it wont.

Im done with this convo though cause as Kwiet said you're just ignoring the point on purpose for whatever reason.

Wasabi1684d ago

@isarai

"unless it hits a major publication, which it wont"

https://www.eurogamer.net/a...

Eurogamer.

One of the highest profile gaming websites globally and the home of Digital Foundry, probably the most credible hardware anaylst in the world.

JackBNimble1684d ago

So explain how exactly you protest in the game and how exactly are gaming journo's going to know this is even happening.

There is no logic to this .... if you want to protest you vacate the servers and play something else. Bethesda's simply not going to change their stance if the servers are full.
Empty the servers or nothing will change, I can promise you that !

thejigisup1683d ago

How dense can you be? I don't think you understand how these things work, if I'm protesting a company I don't give them business. If I already purchased the product I return it, don't use it if I can't term it and happily go to their competitor. Why would you log hours with a product you don't support. What do you do in game to protest besides giving them data on how you spend your in game time? You are play of the problem... I love fallout but I cannot excuse the fact that with 76 and first they dropped the ball. They won't be getting more of my money until they fix a bunch of their business practices and their products. In the meantime I will continue to speak on how awful their product is. There's a reason you're getting so many dislikes.
If PETA was protesting KFC you wouldn't see them going inside and ordering a six piece.

Wasabi1683d ago

@thejigisup

"How dense can you be?"

Opens with an insult, this is going to be good. Always the sign of a well thought out, constructive comment.

"If I already purchased the product I return it, don't use it if I can't term it and happily go to their competitor"

This doesn't work. I don't play fallout, but if I did and I wanted to keep playing because I enjoyed the game but I dislike the changes this is not a solution that works for me. This is exactly what the Fallout community are doing with the Fallout 1st website and their online protests.

"Why would you log hours with a product you don't support"

Because they want to keep playing the game, they simply dislike the additional monetisation.

"What do you do in game to protest besides giving them data on how you spend your in game time"

Create awareness of the issue by protesting in an unusual way that sparks media interest.

"You are play of the problem..."

I'm going to assume you meant that I am part of the problem, but no I'm not. I don't play Fallout, I simply sympathise with gamers that do and disagree that the only way to put pressure on Bethesda is via boycott.

"There's a reason you're getting so many dislikes"

Yes, because I'm not conforming to the same hive mind mentality as the rest of the sheep and have the ability to think for myself. Plus when did agrees or disagrees ever matter on N4G

The Scotsman posted his own opinion in a comment at the top of the page;

"Well your in entitled to your opinion but your full of it. I like fallout and I'm happy to sub. If you don't like the game and dont play it then you know what you can do right? And it's not to keep coming into post and slating a game you don't like or play"

2 agrees , 7 disagrees

He only gave his opinion.

-Foxtrot1684d ago (Edited 1684d ago )

Yeah if you are playing it then they don't care

Uninstall it...like seriously, they must know somehow if everyone, console players included, uninstall the game regardless of the platform you are on.

Nyxus1684d ago

Why did they purchase it in the first place? Sorry but they kind of have themselves to blame.

rainslacker1683d ago

Bethesda has this strange place with their fans where they think that Bethesda is going to release good games that aren't broken, then always end up disappointed, but somehow still liking the game. All that's well and good, but in the case of FO76, there was a lot more wrong than just having a buggy game.

If people still enjoy it, more power to them though. I don't think they're stupid or anything. I think they maybe should question the worth of this sub plan to improve their experience though. Bethesda hasn't even released the update which is supposedly going to make the game better, and even delayed it, only to release this sub which seems like it should be some standard features included for free, or sold piece meal when it comes to what amounts to MT content.

As Fallout76 Crosses 20Million Gamers Amid Success of TVSeries, Todd Howard Talks Franchise’s Future

“Fallout 76″ has found a whole new world of players thanks to the popularity of Amazon’s “Fallout” TV series. The Bethesda Game Studios title, which first launched in October 2018, crossed 20 million downloads and plays as of Wednesday.

Obscure_Observer4d ago

Impressive!

Hopefully Fallout 5 will be among next gen Xbox´s launching games.

-Foxtrot4d ago

Yeah will be great. Can’t wait for it on the PS6.

Notellin3d ago

What's the point of mentioning the platform you plan to play on? Tribalism.

Zeref3d ago

Can't wait to not have to pay 70 dollars for it lol

ocelot073d ago

Will probably be decent on the HP Omen Xbox but not so sure about the Dell Alienware Xbox though. But I have high hopes for the Asus ROG Ally Xbox Edition running this game at a stable 60.

thesoftware7303d ago

Fox,
I'm sure MS can't wait either; all that money they will make.

Everyone wins.
Play it on Xbox, play it on PS, play it on your cell phone, play it on PC, shit, maybe even on Nintendo.
ALL=$$$$ for Microsoft corp, literally all these companies care about.

-Foxtrot3d ago

@Notellin

You new here?

It's Obscure_Observer...and I like to wind him up by saying what he would say to others

I'm not even that bothered, I just find it fun.

Huey_My_D_Long3d ago

@notellin
Now you're getting it ;)

purple1013d ago

Can’t wait to play this, on my Samsung tv Xbox app,

I'm sure Sony can't wait to be part in 30% of Microsofts profit, without spending $7,5 billion + development cost.

All free money for Sony 👍

Crows903d ago

@zeref

You think it's a positive but it's funny how much of a negative it actually is...lol

shinoff21831d 23h ago

Zeref. You silly fools still don't see the fire your adding to by not purchasing games. Keep on adding fuel to the Xbox fire. Alot of us would prefer ownership over rental

Though it would be nice i think tod with his team should stay away from it let someone else take the helm like fallout new vegas.

I also hope after all these success they do not make fallout 76 number 2 sense 76 is the most profitable game they made in the series thanks to monthly subs. Then you got the billion + they made on elder scrolls online.

First thing first is the new elder scrolls title they been working on and we got more updates for starfield to come out but one has recently added a new feature called interactive maps you can see icons along with paths now true next gen.....

So yeah with starfield being there "years" of dev time biggest budget/team size do you trust them with the next fallout title?

MrDead3d ago

The next fallout will be on all systems as Xbox is their smallest market. You don't restrict your flagship games to one of the worlds smallest and shrinking platform.
Bethesda still needs PC and PS as we've learnt from recent layoffs thanks to Microsoft's greed in trying to ban multiplatform publisher's from their biggest console platform.

Obscure_Observer3d ago

Whatever happened to your claims that MS should be boycotted and ultimately destroyed due its greed and monopolistic goals?

You said that the only reason MS released Starfield on PC is because its a new IP, otherwise it would an Xbox exclusive game, as MS ultimate goal is to remove games from players, right?

Now you come to realize that all of your smearing campaign along with all of your doom and gloom prophecies was for nothing!

You don´t really care about MS being destroyed as long Playstation gets some Xbox games.

The moment you find out that neither TES VI and Fallout 5 will be making it´s way to Playstation anything soon, you will be right back where you were a few months ago, shoehorning how MS must (again) be destroyed. Smh.

"Bethesda still needs PC and PS as we've learnt from recent layoffs thanks to Microsoft's greed in trying to ban multiplatform publisher's from their biggest console platform."

Last time I checked, Tango, which released Hi-Fi Rush on both PC and PS5 got shut down while Bethesda (Starfield) do not.

Yes, MS is greed. Yes they do care about the money above most things like every company does.

But just like Sony, they´ll not put their flagship titles on Playstation while damaging their own consoles in the process. I though both Phil and Sarah were clear about that subject when they confirmed that a next gen Xbox console is in development.

That said, the thing that most people don´t realize with all that port begging nonsense, is that Xbox releasing all of its flagships games on Playstation will do nothing but hurt the Playstation brand in the end.

Let me explain:

First - If all games from Xbox land on Playstation, what real interest Sony will have to continue and invest in innovative and multi hundred million dollar single player games that they´re known for? None! I mean, why would Sony take risks when the competitor is doing it in their place?

In the end, Sony will just rest on their laurels by allowing Playstation to be carried by third party publishers and ultimately, Playstation´s premiere first party games will be no more.

Second - After the recent events, you know now how far Sony is willing to go to get that MAU from Steam gamers, they literally banned Steam gamers from 120 countries and regions for it. In Microsoft´s case, you also know they will demand Playstation players to connect to a MS account to play Xbox games, which favors no other but MS itself, because they´ll be "stealing" gamers from the Playstation´s player base, via the ultimate "Trojan Horse".

As a wise man said: "Be careful what you wish for"

Mr_cheese2d ago

Oh Obscure, the irony in what you're saying is crazy.

anast3d ago

It's a good show. They are really good at live action trailers.

Huey_My_D_Long3d ago

Yall have alot to prove after starfield. Personally I think they will squander the potential for the game, but hey, I look forward to being proven wrong when its released.

RaidenBlack2d ago

Obsidian can still save the reputation with a banger spin off Fallout title whilst Bethesda concentrates finishing TES VI.
Only drawback is Obsidian will have to halt the Outer Worlds 2 development.

shinoff21831d 23h ago

Is that a drawback though. I'd rather see then work on a fallout anyway. The first outer worlds was pretty dull. Atleast that's how I felt.

RaidenBlack2d ago

They wont.
Too many legacy program scripts to transition to UE.

4Sh0w3d ago

Yeah the TV Series was better than I expected.
