The Last Of Us: Making a sequel to a 'perfect' game

New trailer and release date announced for long-awaited PlayStation video game sequel.

AspiringProGenji1694d ago

I find it quite awesome the phenomenon that TLoU has become with just one game. Lots of actual celebrities sharing their excitement about it, it was trending all day on Twitter, and ND’a twitter blows up every time they mention it. I just hope ND can top the first game, and I’m sure they will

TheGamez1001694d ago (Edited 1694d ago )

Its a tough call. Usually any sequels or successors after the original that was highly praised are not quite as good. I see that the story is focused just on ellies revenge compared to the whole start of the Apocalypse to securing a potential hope for humanity with joel and his journey with ellie, and discovering the whole lou world in the first game and seeing so many new things. And joel was such a perfect character for us to play as. I hope 2 expands upon just the revenge. The game looks great but its just too early to say itll be a better game or even a good game at all. Ill be honest and say that the games been a bit underwhelming to me. Will definitely still buy and play it though, itd be great to be surprised and love the game.
Same had kinda happened with uncharted. I had only found the second game to be amazing and all the other games kinda paled in comparison. The first game was average so a sequel could easily surpass it.

Celebrities talking about anything (Including games) is just as shallow as modern Metacritic scores unless ofc there is objective verifiable proof that they are a connoisseur of the thing they are talking about.

TK-661692d ago

Imagine getting giddy, because a celebrity you didn't care about before, starts talking about a game you like. I genuinely feel bad for people who base their entire identity on consumerism.

AspiringProGenji1692d ago

They are people who play games just like us you know... i am not basing anything on them, just that how popular and successful TLoU is, and deservedly so.

AspiringProGenji1694d ago

Sony games are just “one and done games” they say, and here we are still discussing the ending of TLoU 6 years later

ClayRules20121693d ago

Yeah, all these 6 years later and TLoU is still being discussed, admired, loved and so on. It’s a special game. The best game I’ve ever played & my favorite game ever.

TK-661692d ago (Edited 1692d ago )

I mean people have always been discussing older games for the past few decades, lol...

You've caught up to the the rest of us. Congratulations?

DaDrunkenJester1693d ago

Can't surpass the original without half of the game... Sorry.

Never one to pass up the opportunity to bash a Sony product huh Jester!

The overwhelming majority of people bought the first game for the single player experience and indeed, all of the games success is derived from it characters and story. That the game had great multiplayer too was just the icing on the cake and the fact is, despite how good the multiplayer was, the majority never bothered with it; that's not to acknowledge that multiplayer did still enjoy a large and dedicated community, but it was still only a fraction of the millions and millions who played the game.

Your notion that the sequel is only 'half the game' is just another daft attempt to downplay any excitement people might have for the game based on nothing more than your want to slight Sony products at every opportunity.

DaDrunkenJester1693d ago (Edited 1693d ago )

Lol okay. I'm excited for the game, but I personally feel this is bullshit that they are cutting out the MP. Just because I'm not rolling over and accepting it doesnt mean I'm just trying to troll. You can check my comment history and I've been very positive and excited for TLoU2... but that's when I thought we were getting the full package.

For me, i spent way more time in the MP then I did SP, but that doesnt mean I'd be okay with the SP being cut. So I dont know why you guys are fine with something being cut from the game just because YOU didnt care or spend much time on it.

A small fraction of players compared to the total, but guess what? That small fraction gave then MILLIONS in extra revenue through MT's. Did the SP only players do that?

AspiringProGenji1692d ago

If the sequel is a big as it is rumored to be and bigger than the Original’s SP and MP combined then it can surpass it easily, especially when the MP will come later so even bigger.

DaDrunkenJester1692d ago (Edited 1692d ago )

My question that I wish they would clarify is how will the MP come later? They said twice in that tweet that TLoU2 will not be getting the MP. If it was just delayed they would have said "we are sorry, but with the focus on the expansive SP we will have to delay the MP for TLoU2, but it will come at a later date."

They confirmed they are working on something, but made it clear it wont be for TLoU2. To me that sounds like they are making it its own thing or a stand alone expansion.

Its not perfect (no game really is) but goddamn is it amazing.

The Last Of Us Series Has Remarkable Potential For Spin-Offs

Najam from eXputer writes "It's time fore a new installment in the series, not another pointless remaster."

anast104d ago

They are working on something new. Not to be rude but it is impossibility stupid to think ND next major announcement is going to be a remaster or their next Last of Us entry is going to be another remaster.

AlterRecs101d ago

I think this is in response to them releasing a remaster for the sequel, a game that didn't need a remaster.

Basically a "why did you put out a remaster no one asked for when you have all there options available"

anast101d ago

They remaster is to put out something quick while they are deving new stuff. I don't get how people can be so static.

AlterRecs100d ago

There's no news about a third game being in production, you're just assuming that they're working on something that they aren't

anast100d ago

When they release the news to start the hype-train, you can give me my props then.

DrDoomer104d ago

I want an alternate timeline spin-off, where part 2 never happened.

CrimsonWing69104d ago

They’ve already done Remasters of 1 and 2… what else is there to Remaster?

AlterRecs101d ago

Considering they remastered the first game twice, who knows lol

CrimsonWing69101d ago

That was a Remake. I guess they could do that to 2, but man…. They should wait a couple generations so it can look like a major upgrade.

The Last Of Us Online Devs Celebrate Their Experience With The Canceled Game

The team is sad for losing out on such a great project but celebrates its growth because of spending time on it.

Chocoburger148d ago

All they had to do was make a basic online mode like their previous games. Instead they wanted more money and choose to go live service which makes games worse in my opinion.

What a waste of time and money, what a shame.

seanpitt23104d ago

I can't wait for season 2 so they can kill Joel off in the first 2 episodes!! Then it will be just Abby and Ellies revenge plot!

Something is telling me that this won't happen though because it wouldn't make sense, oh wait

Linzoid148d ago

Not sure why they didn’t just make Factions 2. There was no need to make it a live service.

TLoU Factions was a great addition such a shame they couldn’t be bothered to remaster that for PS5 considering the crazy high price tag of the remaster of a remaster…

anast148d ago

This is something to be celebrated. This studio is smart and they get it, even factions 2 wouldn't've have been worth the time. I am surprised they didn't just remaster the first one though, but actually how popular was Factions?
