Stadia 4K streaming will use up 1TB of data in 65 hours

If you have a monthly data cap, game streaming should be approached cautiously.

Christopher1809d ago

*Xfinity and their soft caps begin salivating*

Jin_Sakai1809d ago

It sucks for those who are forced to live with stupid data caps.

Luckily we have both 1Gbps cable and 1Gbps Fiber available with no stupid data caps.

meep3161808d ago

Luckily we have a better solution lol.

Army_of_Darkness1808d ago

Stadia will be DOA like ouya.

outsider16241808d ago

Damn. Here i am still with 6-10Mbps download speed with no cap though.

Jin_Sakai1808d ago (Edited 1808d ago )

“Luckily we have a better solution lol.“

Exactly. Can’t stand Google and don’t care for streaming games. I’ll be picking up a next gen console and enjoy a local experience.

Thundercat771808d ago

Lucky, I have a console. No need to experience all this limitations.

execution171808d ago

I don't have a data cap but the download speed fluctuates from how fast I'm paying for or 5mbps

RangerWalk2671808d ago

So do I. I couldn't imagine having a cap

UltraNova1808d ago

Stadia will be a niche market, the moment it launches and stay there until global internet speeds/caps improve (if Google is willing to keep supporting it- hint they aint that font of keeping ideas that dont take off around).

Notice we haven't even started talking about lag and connection stability...

indysurfn1808d ago

@att has fiber and when I read the fine print they said you have 1TB for a Month until they may slow you down.

With gaming that will happen in a little over a week for me if I was ONLY using Stadia! I use a whole lot more than gaming data.

princejb1341808d ago

for now. What going to happen when comcast, verizon and atnt gets mad about all this data been used. Their either going to put 1) data caps, 2)charge alot more money. Atnt was the one that started data caps on mobile years ago

DarXyde1808d ago

I find out particular frustrating that Google has yet to establish strong coverage with Google Fiber, but they somehow intend to roll out Stadia.

Shikoku1808d ago

I have At&t they are the only one's who offer no data cap in my area for a decent price.

froy4021807d ago

@meep316
DOA? or maybe it will blow up like fortnite, you never know them casuals are crazy!

nucky641807d ago

sucks for stadia too - they'll never be able to survive.

Lmao what a scam. pay pay and more pay.

They must think we're a bunch of donkeys.

meep3161808d ago

To be fair google has managed to push all kinds of crap on people in the past using their information monopoly.

Edito1808d ago

Some people are and will pay thinking they are doing what's best and ignoring the better solution...

rainslacker1808d ago

Google is my default search engine, and it's the thing that comes up first when I open my browser. Today, I had a little bubble on the bottom of the page inviting me to see the future of gaming.

Google is going to leverage what it has to market their service, and it's going to catch people's attention. Most people don't over-analyze this stuff, and marketing tends to not highlight the downsides.

I'm honestly surprised MS hasn't done it more for their Windows Store in Win10, but they've been pretty passive about that.

indysurfn1808d ago

Yep they here a few people saying give it a change. And they hear a few people saying:its coming and we cant do anything about it! We are defeated. cry ....wrong we are not defeated money talks.

sampsonon1808d ago

3 people do :) hope streaming doesn't take over.

@ DarXyde

Google 'did' try to expand google fiber, but they were kneecapped by leagal bribery, 'AKA' lobbying. State laws were quite literally paid for by att comcast ect, to convince lawmakers to listen to them instead of their own constituents, the people who elected them.

I live in Chicago were WOW and RCN has a large presence and yet, comcast still mails me fliers begging me to sign up for a service I know damn well has data caps.

Gateway MT6706 2008

Fist4achin1808d ago

Exactly. Instead of Google getting into gaming, I'd rather they expanded their high speed internet services to more areas. I'm stuck with Xfinity...

SlagWolf1807d ago

I got 80mb down 10mb up, no cap and I’m still not touching stadia I’m good with my PC and Switch

You're exagerrating. Stadia had an underwhelming debut, but you forget that Google has truckloads of cash. They'll adapt and improve.

Until then, Microsoft will humble them this Sunday. All they have to do is announce that XCloud will be free of charge and Google will start scrambling.

I will NOT be purchasing Stadia anytime soon, but it would be stupid to want Stadia to fail as Google (at this point) is the only thing preventing Microsoft from monopolizing affordable cloud gaming and getting too greedy.

TheColbertinator1808d ago

Didn't know xcloud was going to be free. Sounds promising and a good way to convince curious customers.

1808d ago
rainslacker1808d ago

If MS doesn't charge just to get 4K streams, then it'd already be better. I'd imagine they'll still have the sub service like with Game Pass. Maybe integrate game pass. And probably have the ability to purchase content. But the 9.99/month for a selecetion of games, and being able to stream 4K, is where Google failed in their service IMO.

BLow1808d ago

If you think Xcloud is going to be free, you clearly don't understand business and definitely not MS lol. It's either going to have it's own standalone price or be bundled with other services from MS. Of course I can see the reception of Xcloud to be different than Stadia.

MS has fanboys that will defend it to no end. Not much longer to wait!!! MS you better bring that fire........

Shikoku1808d ago

Stadia will have 1080p 60fps stereo sounds accounts next year...why are people trying to act like you "have" to pay for stadia and MS isn't going to have xcloud for free its MS.

sampsonon1808d ago (Edited 1808d ago )

and sony just keeps rolling along with Top Tier AAA games.

love it :) 1st place (sony) watching 2nd and 3rd fight it out in a losing battle.

kneon1807d ago

Google has a long list of failed businesses, as does Microsoft. It doesn't matter how much cash you throw at it if people don't want it.

"Google (at this point) is the only thing preventing Microsoft from monopolizing affordable cloud gaming and getting too greedy"

Playstation Now has been available for years

Dizzy115231807d ago

I want it to fail. I'm not stupid. I'm smart.

Razzer1809d ago

That is 585 GB in 65 hours for just 1080p rez.

cell9891808d ago

That’s still a lot of data lol. Add, Netflix, social media, Prime, Hulu, and you might as well kill your self

1808d ago
opc1808d ago

again, someone playing 65 hours a month is going to have a console or a pc.

This is for parents that might only be able to play 3 or 4 hours a month.

kneon1807d ago

I think the kind of people that only have 3 or 4 hours a month to play will just stick to phones and tablets.

wakeupcall41807d ago

So if someone is gaming on 1080p, let's say 2 hours per day, 5 times a week. Adds up to 40 hours. For busy/casual gamers that will actually be just fine. Stadia won't work with hardcore gamers however, until data caps are gone.

Anything streaming only is doa.
Data caps will kill stadia and anything that follows.

LOGICWINS1808d ago

Yup. Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime are historic failiures.

meep3161808d ago

Can we really call services losing billions a year successful?

1808d ago
Nitrowolf21808d ago

They’re losing money which is why they’re pushing price hike every 6 months to a year

Also it takes less to stream movies that it does a game

Thundercat771808d ago

We are talking about gaming streaming services here.

Firebird3601808d ago

You cant compare games streamed to videos streamed. It's not even in the same relm.

paradigmfellow1808d ago

Streaming a movie or episode is less data intensive than a game.

Google will roll out their own internet service though

Razzer1808d ago (Edited 1808d ago )

They already have and it is limited in availability.

https://fiber.google.com/ab...

Either way, data caps are still a thing, unfortunately and services like Stadia are not feasible for people who have them.

Shikoku1808d ago

They have it have for years now

paradigmfellow1808d ago

they have and they stopped because of AT&T, Verizon, and Comcast constant lawsuits.

BLow1807d ago

Not to mention these companies will throttle your speeds once you get to certain level of data used. This is not advertised of course. Even though you may have unlimited data, they still have an "invisible" data cap that they don't tell us about. Let's not mention the data you already use and add gaming on top of that and these companies are either going to charge more or throttle your data. I'm hoping this doesn't take off right now. It's too soon.....

Nice. It's really cool that PC players get to play this masterpiece.

PrinceOfAnger1d 3h ago

It has surpassed spider man now
it's 71k+
game did this with way shorter time than spider man.

itsmebryan5h ago(Edited 5h ago)

@prince
I'm confused. Does that number mean total players at one time playing like a snapshot
or total sales? If it's the former that's not very accurate because I know I'm not the only person that buys games and plays them later and that number is not included.

RNTody1d 2h ago

Great, I loved this game. Definitely think it's Sucker Punch's best work to date!

rippermcrip1d 1h ago

Is this going to be the new thing thing? Articles about Steam reviews? Which of course was in response to the false article about the review bombings in the first place.

Christopher22h ago

Hey, just a heads up that the new owners did open news to Steam updates, but we try our best to not allow them to go on daily updates unless relevant to some other news. I understand this isn't everyone's cup and tea and sympathize, but the door has been open. If you feel it's 'too much' please do PM me or submit a ticket to the mod team. Thank you.

shinoff218314h ago

I came here to post this link in that specific article. 84 perce t is pretty good. How many bad reviews were there like 5

GamerzElite1d 1h ago

This is good game and Ghost eliminate all fake outrage.

CrimsonWing691d ago (Edited 1d ago )

I always get confused by this, but is 72k good sales numbers for a game? I keep seeing games fail at selling 2.5 million and that they need to be on multiple platforms but is an additional 72k adding much?

Fishy Fingers1d ago

Im not sure how its confusing :\

72k actively playing. Not 72k sold.

A good example is Helldivers 2, 6m sold, 450k (at its peak) active players.

But how many swords swung is what we're all really waiting for.

shinoff218314h ago

Lmao. How many swords swung. I was hoping for how many steps

wesnytsfs4h ago

And its how many years old from initial release.

Crows9023h ago

72k is concurrent
...that is not the sold figure.

Michiel198923h ago

for one they already had a huge launch on the playstation, they don't need to sell 5m to make the porting to pc profitable and as pointed out below that number you see is just the people playing it at this moment.

Plague-Doctor2721h ago(Edited 21h ago)

Also from the insomniac leak we know these PC ports are a quick turnaround and budgeted around $2-4 million. At 100k sales they break even including Steams cut. They may not sell millions but they are a great ROI

elazz10h ago(Edited 10h ago)

72k concurrent. That is a global number. People who bought the game are not playing at the same time because of timezones, working schedules, holidays, events... There is no good rule of thumb but you can extrapolate based on other games that also released sales data. Then it is clear that the PC release alone accounts for at least 500K copies sold on steam, maybe closer to 700-800K. Probably will sell over a million this extended weekend.

According to steamspy and other data gathering sites games like Days Gone, Spider Man, God Of War, Horizon Zero Dawn have sold 2 to 5 million copies on Steam. So I expect Ghost to reach similar numbers. Probably even surpass it.

PSN Store "Weekend Offer" Includes Loads of AAA Titles, Here's the Full List

Sony has also launched the PSN Store "Weekend Offer" this May 17, and this one includes a lot of AAA titles, and 2K-published games.

TwoPicklesGood1d 4h ago

Some good games but they are all old and should be a lot cheaper than what they are on that sale. Hard pass.
